Business Owner

In 1984 Kathryn graduated Magna Cum Laude from the School of Architecture & Design at Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Interior Architecture. In 1988 she graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Architecture from Louisiana Tech University. Originally her work began when she was a teenager working in her architect-father’s office in the late 70s. Her internship began in 1984 in Connecticut and Louisiana when she worked for such firms as Russell Gibson von Dohlen and McNaughton Associates and the final stages were completed in 1988 while she played a key role in the design of the award-​winning new Carousel Center in Syracuse, NY. In 1989 she became NCARB certified and obtained her license in Connecticut and California. Kathryn has worked for other architectural firms on projects including the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, 242 Trumbull in Hartford, CT, Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans, LA, Carousel Center in Syracuse, NY, among many others. We found Kathy while looking for a creative architect who understood and was interested in designing spaces to live large without actually being large, in the architectural philosphy and style of Sarah Susanka (The Not So Big House). Kathy worked closely with us to design a remodel of our existing living room and entry way so that we could take advantage of the space we had (borrowing a few feet from the oversized garage), given how difficult it is in our town to obtain variances in order to add to the size of our house. The results are dramatic and truly reflect the ideas we had. The designs included a beautiful built-​in to house all of our musical instruments while containing the t.v. and stereo components, a coffered ceiling, french doors and divided light windows out to the garden on two sides, a matching (though smaller) built-​in for the adjacent dining room, a window seat added to the kitchen to give us a bit more room without adding to the house footprint, and a large built-​in for the front hall with a bench seat over deep shoe drawers backed by tall cubbies for each person in the family to use for coats, backpacks and more. Kathy is creative, collaborative and fun to work with. She worked really well with our contractor, and the remodel went without a hitch.
