History
Established in 1973.
In 1999 after taking over the tailor shop, Sottile Alterations (which had been in Mill Valley since 1973,) Rosie Nixon kept the shop alive and bustling with all types of tailoring and design projects. Having been one of the seamstresses for the original owners she bought it when they retired, grew it into a much larger shop and added her speciality of custom gown making to the services offered. Recently, she relocated the shop to Sausalito in order to create an online ‘appointment only’ business instead of the ‘walk in’ business it had been for so long. This helped in keeping the many projects and demands of the business manageable and efficient.
Meet the Business Owner
Rosie N.
Business Owner
Rosie has been sewing since a young girl when her mother taught her to sew. She excelled in sewing class in high school and after attending Ohio State University decided to go to The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles and pursue a career in the garment industry. After 5 years in the business, she found that she could go out on her own and design for individuals focusing on custom gowns. She then designed for The Ritz in Boulder Colorado cutting and remaking garments from vintage pieces. Moving to Florida and raising her daughter she worked as a tailor for a fine couture boutique as well as the new Ralph Lauren Polo shop. California called her back, this time to Sausalito where RosieGowns was officially born and thrived.
