I was in Savannah with my nephew (Gage. L), who also dropped a review. We were passing through town and decided to stay for the St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Like he said, we stumbled upon here as we were looking for a place to wind down for an after dinner drink.
More of a wine bar than a food spot, the place had a great feel to it. The piano set the mood and the bartenders were incredibly helpful pointing us in the right direction for our wine selection.
Definitely a great date spot, as my nephew points out.
I was sad to learn the place has since closed as of this review, but am leaving one anyway in case they make a comeback.

Unique and delicious food, loved it! Found Department 7 East on Unilocal,followed the suggestion to order the special, good call.

I went today for the 2^nd time and sat at the bar. Sheena was our server and she took such great care of us. I had the red neck Reuben, and my friend had the BLT with an egg on it. Both were awesome. We split the fried green tomato, pimento cheese stack, which was divine. Had a lovely rose’ suggested by Sheena as well. (Hope I didn’t butcher her name) I will drive over from Hilton head again just to have lunch here, and hope we get Sheena to take care of us again! My husband is in hospitality and she is one of the best. Nothing simple on this menu. It’s a treat for people who know how to cook well. Nothing more discouraging than going out and having a boring meal.

My husband and I are foodies. We travel a lot and dine out every meal, even when we are home.
We’ve traveled to Savannah four times in the past year and a half. When we in town, this restaurant makes the top of our list.
I honestly could eat here every day. The two of us order for six because we love too many dishes to narrow it down.

Whatever the special is, order it!!! You won’t be sorry.
They have a way of combining the simplest of ingredients to make food masterpieces.
Oh, did I mention the peach iced tea? And the cutest décor? The sweetest servers? I’m in love.

I was in Savannah, GA with my uncle for the big St. Patrick’s day celebration en route to Florida. We had started drinking at 12 PM that day and were looking for a place to wind down for an after dinner drink. We stumbled upon this fine piano bar at around 8 PM.
As soon as we entered the place, it had a relaxed feel to it. It was a wide open area with white walls and was well lit with a pianist playing so classical tunes. The two bartenders were very nice and were able to keep up conversation as we sipped our $ 30 bottle of red wine.
Though I did not try any food here, I was wowed by the ambiance and the kind customer service we received. I would definitely go back if ever in the area to give their food a try as it would be a perfect area to bring a significant other to for an anniversary or Valentine’s Day.

Amazing food! The pimento and ham sandwich was fabulous. Would highly recommend. Fun atmosphere.

Salad was fresh & tasty. Dinner & Bread putting dessert was delicious. Use of local produce is a must for me & it was on point here!

Great service, friendly and attentive, married to fantastic sandwiches that were creative re-​imaginings of familiar classics. Enjoyed our charcuterie plate, our sandwiches, our nicely curated by-​the-​glass wine selection and a great décor, ambiance and wonderful waitstaff to make for a wonderful experience.

Yes, yes and YES! This place is fantastic. Super friendly/​attentive/​knowledgeable staff. Food is incredibly fresh using local, in-​season ingredients. Portions are perfect. Beautiful space. Absolutely love this place.

After wandering City Market and much of Congress and Broughton streets for a place to stop for a bite, a glass of wine, and a restful spot, we found our oasis at Dept 7 East. Think Paris by way of Sonoma with a southern accent. I should also add that the charming service was all Southern – not a whiff of Paris in sight. The young owner operators have invested more than elbow grease and ingenuity in the place. The repurposed wood walls, lamps and chandeliers made from reimagined galvanized tubs, and the refurbished and recycled furnishings work to create a modern, rustic-​chic vibe that compliments the inventive menu and closely curated wine list. Satisfy yourself with tasty small plates (we loved the authentic, homey «pimmenah» cheese) and house made pickles. My husband’s comment, «It’s a rare thing to actually order a charcuterie plate that comes with more than enough bread slices. Not only was the toast warm enough to soften the cheese, but it was grilled to that perfect point of golden with a little char. And in this age of pretentious wine bars that offer themed flights or serve wine from debit-​card dispensers, how nice to meet a server who not only explains a wine’s attributes in a few brief and easy to understand terms, but recommends the wine feature of the week, a bargain way to try some of the more expensive by-​the-​glass selections on the list. When I equivocated over whether the white blend from The Girls in the Vinyard might be too sweet, Meta offered me a tasting. How happy I was to then order the wine special. My husband enjoyed a classic French Rose for a bargain $ 6 a glass that normally is priced at over $ 10 a glass. And if you like your wine or pickles, you can buy them to go — hence the «Marche» or market reference in their signage. I am attaching two photos, one of our two noshing platters and one of a wine bottle with descriptive signage on sale on their market rack. Treat yourself and don’t miss this lovely spot.

Live music, friendly staff and the food was delicious as well. Definitely a must visit in Savannah. Hidden amongst other flashy food spots, this place is great for a glass of wine and live entertainment or a large group to sit and have dinner. The staff is very knowledgable and friendly.

How did I forget to review this place? I was visiting Savannah with a friend and we kind of ran across this place by accident. We were STARVING, sweating and tired and just needed a good lunch. We have no expectations when we went it but were SO impressed!
FOOD:
They had a lovely basket of fresh veggies and fruit from their garden that they use in lots of their dishes.
We ordered the Bonnie Blue and The McIntire to split half and half. The McIntire was good but the Bonnie Blue was so so so good! Something about those blueberries and basil just hit it on the nail! I would order this every day if I lived there.
We also ordered the deviled eggs and the gazpacho. The eggs were so cute with the little pickles on top, and the gazpacho. OMG soooo fresh and full of flavor.
DEFINITELY GO!
I would recommend this place to anyone who wants fresh tasting food. The staff was so nice and even chatted with us about where we were from and things to do and see.

I like the atmosphere here — very hipster chic. All the decorations are beautiful and unique. The service is very good. The food — eh. I got the cobb salad. It wasn’t very like a traditional cobb and it seemed kind of thrown together — meat shredded on top, lots of onions for some reason. I did like the devilled egg on the side though. Ultimately, I think the quality and presentation could be a bit higher for the price.

Great change up after five days of delicious but heavy eating in Savannah. The salad and sandwich choices were interesting takes and interpretations on classics as well as some new dishes unique to Dept. 7
We started off with a very tasty cream of vidalia onion soup. My gf had the chopped salad with grilled fennel, pickled tomatoes, roasted walnuts and blue cheese and I had dept. 7 club both great. Our server Helen was helpful and very nice.
One side note this restaurant is housed in the same space as a tea shop that used to serve teas, scones etc. Don’t be confused Dept 7 is not that it is a very good restaurant for a tasty fresh light lunch. I believe they are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday for dinner as well.
Very enjoyable and a nice alternative to some of the delicious but heavier fare at other restaurants.

Accidentally stumbled here with my brother as we were looking to dine at the Tea Room. It was confusing since the tea room & dept 7 east share this space. We were seated, and then I realized when we were seated & got the menu that we were kinda at the wrong place. but it would be too weird to just leave so we ate here anyways. I had the roast beef panini, which was good. Roast beef tasted pretty fresh, with caramelized onions & some spead. It also came with a choice of chips, or a side salad. The side salad had this delicious citrus vinagrette. My brother had the Smoked Salmon House Salad, which was basically the same as my side salad, but with more greens and a slab of salmon. The salmon was crusted with some kind of seeds. I thought the salmon was okay. It wasn’t anything special. Our server was nice, but took a long time with the check even though there really weren’t many patrons since they were closing soon. The ambiance was cute and modernly rustic. They also serve the full tea menu from the Tea Room which was cool (but I really wanted the crumpets and sandwiches, which they didn’t serve).

Dropped into this cozy, contemporary eatery for a light lunch and tea. The staff are very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and charming, the menu is concise and well conceived, and the food is delicious. We had a sublime cream of Vidalia onion soup to start. The soup had a surprising depth of flavour and complexity. The super sweet onions were complemented perfectly by a creamy broth and a delicious home made cracker/​chip.
Next we shared a chop salad with an addition of «pickled» Georgia shrimp. The chop salad was a lovely combination of greens, small chunks of roasted beets, a small pickled okra, anise fennel, candied pecans, sliced Granny Smith apples, crumbled blue cheese lightly coated with a lemon vinaigrette. By far the most unique, complex flavoured chop salad we’ve encountered. The addition of the pickled shrimp (essentially a take on ceviche with a caper-​vinegar base) was a fine suggestion by our server. The shrimp was plump, firm, sweet and tinged with the delicious caper flavour.
However, our server’s most inspired suggestion was in the choice of teas. One of us had Emperor’s Bride, which while very good paled in comparison with the Oolong tea that served as out other choice. This tea — Coconut Pouchong — was sublime. Delicate in both aroma and flavour, the oolong tea was infused with the flavour of young coconut. The natural sweetness of the coconut, and the lovely tropical aroma of coconut, made for one of the best tea sipping experiences we’ve had in a long while.
After lunch we proceeded inside to buy some of this wonderful tea from the tea merchant co-​located with the restaurant. The owner and her employees know their teas, and are happy to chat about how best to make the best brew for as long as you’d like.
This is a great little spot on Broughton Street; we wish them the best of success!

Love this place! We stopped here for lunch on a whim and it’s adorable and delicious. A little tea shop is located in the front of the restaurant — we stopped and shopped on our way out and I was able to get a few gifts to bring home.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is pretty, a little whimsy, and chic.
I had the Southern Parisian sandwich (yum!) with a side salad. Their homemade vinaigrette is phenomenal!

We had a nice time here. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We just stopped in for a drink, but they took us on a tour of the entire building and gave us a run down of all the things they do here. A very nice place for wine and light bites.

I am so excited to find such an adventurous restaurant in Savannah of all places. Growing up, I became accustomed to seeing the same type of American cuisine everywhere. Steak, chicken and seafood are all great and all, but Dept 7 takes a new look on local ingredients and Southern dishes.
dept 7 is co located with a tea shop yet the two places complement each other well stylistically. The design is strikes me as very southern: bright, warm, and woody. Stalks from cotton bushes complement the wooden environment well and create a home-​like environment. Every detail matches this motif down to the silverware.
The staff then creates an environment such that you begin to feel like family. They are attentive but not overwhelming, and seem very excited about the food they are serving.
Receiving our order, my date and I could see why. We had French press, locally grown coffee that tasted if ground up just seconds earlier. To eat, we had the special chicken pot pie, and she-​crab soup. Both tasted light but were actually quite filling on their own. On the plate, we got exactly what we expected, but the flavors were very fresh and tasty.
So, sure there are some items on the menu that aren’t typical and are non-​traditional combinations of flavors, but I hope Savannah broadens it’s taste horizons and gives this cozy place a chance!

Disappointing … to say the least. There’s little normal, let alone anything special, about this place.
If you’re looking for the Tea Room you’ll see a new sign on the building, «Dept 7 East». The door to the place still has the words «The Tea Room» on it.
This place used to be the Tea Room — one of the coolest places in town.
The Tea Room had limited offerings on the menu. But one didn’t mind, because of the ambiance and tea centric service. You could sit around and order pot after pot of tea, entrées, and snacks for an afternoon and never want to leave.
Now the place with its new «spiffed up» look is suggestive of a teenyboppers club on a Disney shoot set.
The new ambience is so strange that for brief moment upon entry, I wondered whether I was in a café in a foreign country.
The luncheon menu presents VERY limited offerings — about 10 sandwiches and a smattering of salads with a few appetizers. Once you realize that sandwiches are your only choice for lunch — you order a sandwich.
My wife, son and I all ordered sandwiches. Without prompting, both said their sandwiches were horrible. How many 23 year old young men do you know who won’t eat a sandwich for lunch at a restaurant? He walked away, citing the bread as stale and dry and the meat as tasteless. My wife made similar comments about her sandwich.
Want soup with your lunch? Guess what? You can go with their sole offering of the day. Otherwise, you’re out of luck. How many of you reading this really like carrot ginger soup with no alternative to choose something different? I might like it for one visit — but I’d like several to choose from just in case I’m not in the mood for only one soup.
Want tea with your lunch? You have to know enough to ask for their tea list. If you sit down for lunch — it’s not highlighted.
The tea shop remains a concession off to the side at the entrance area if you wish to buy teas and accessories.
Food quality is okay, not great. Given the limited offerings and quality, I don’t recommend this place.
If you looking for the old Tea Room, this place is not an improvement. Don’t waste your time or money as we did. We won’t go back.
