Georgetown Veterinary Hospital

My husband and I are brand new dog owners. We have an Olde English Bulldogge and a Maltese, both puppies ages 4 months and 2 months. The only reason we decided on taking our pups here is because we live in Georgetown and figured, «this place is super convenient, its right up the street!»
We been getting our pups immunized with all their first year shots and the prices are decent (from what friends are telling us for both dogs) with flea and heart worm pills. About $ 220 to $ 260 a visit depending on what shots/​meds we need to give our dogs. We always get a check up call within two to three days of their visit.

I had wanted to get acquainted with this practice, due to its proximity, even though I’m established at another vet’s office. On Friday, my seven-​year-​old mix breed was stricken with very loose bowel movements. I called Georgetown at about 5:30 to see if they had Saturday appointments. I was then scheduled for 9:00 AM the next day.
The location was fairly easy to find and absolutely gorgeous. It’s set back on a cul-​de-​sac and surrounded by woods, so we could walk our non-​sick dog before going in. We arrived a few minutes early, were greeted by the receptionist and given the initial paperwork to fill out. I’d already had the other vet fax over my dog’s history and they already had that printed and ready.
Promptly at nine, the vet tech escorted us into a room and introduced herself as the person I’d spoken with the day prior. She went over the routine questions and asked if she could get a fecal sample on my girl. She took my dog to the back area and was gone for a few minutes before bringing her back and letting me know how things went.
When the vet came in, she appeared to have already reviewed my dog’s chart and, in lieu of just addressing the diarrhea, wanted to address the whole health of my dog. There aren’t words for what this type of service and care means to me.
So, in addition to addressing the diarrhea, we talked about her other health stuff (UTI and obesity). I’ve spent five years in veterinary medicine, but she brought up things I hadn’t thought about. We decided to go ahead and retest parts of her urine, which is why she was on the antibiotics that messed with her system. I walked my dog while the vet tech collected the sample, which was perfectly fine because I want to be involved in my dog’s care.
Also, Dr. Hassan knew who the next client was and what type of dog he was, so she escorted us out a side door so we wouldn’t have to encounter a reactive dog. I appreciated that she knew her patients and her schedule so well.
After the exam, the medication, all of the services (fecal float and two urine tests) and the recommended food (prescription diet for the pH of her urine, her obesity and her gastritis), I was prepared to drop about $ 350. When I checked out, though, the bill was less than half that.
Needless to say, I’m switching vets.
(Ps. They also called today to check on her and see how she was reacting to the medication and the food.)

Very friendly staff, takes good care of my dog when boarding. However they are expensive and raised the rates without telling me, which is why I now board my dog elsewhere. Had they been upfront with me, it would be a different situation.
