Inn At Ellis Square

This hotel has THE perfect location. It is located at the heart of Savannah’s Historic District, making it easy to walk to shops, restaurants etc. It has a nice terrace to be outside with chairs and lounges…
We were 5 friends in Savannah for a Wedding, so the hotel manager recommended a suite suitable for 5, supposedly with two bathrooms. When we arrived the suite was super dark, it had a narrow spiral staircase for the second «room» which was an open attic, old and dusty and just ONE bathroom for the whole suite that was placed INSIDE the main bedroom.
We went to the front desk to complain about the uncomfortable suite, and the women on front desk were not of much help and unkind.
They arranged two regular rooms (since we needed the bathrooms)
–NO safe in the bedroom
— Plain breakfast (cero tasty!)
–Small + Old bathroom with no garbage can to put toilet paper (bathroom clogged each time)
— Shower curtain was ripped
–The bed linens very rough
–The concept of Housekeeping was doing the bed and replacing towels (but not picking the old ones or organizing anything!!!) so everyday we entered a disorganized room just with the beds done
At checkout you don’t get a receipt so you do not see what you are paying for! They «email» the receipt and if they charged something extra you are screwed!!!
Very expensive hotel for what they offer, for those prices you can stay in Way Better Hotels!

The stars are for location only. We drove in from Atlanta last night thinking we were getting a suite for the 4 of us, and we have a tiny double. The room is old, there is dirt in the corners of the bathroom, the sink has a clogged drain, the air is loud and right next to the bed. The shower head sprays all over the place but where you need it. Breakfast which is free and a reason we selected this place for the kids, was less than desirable with waffles and a broken juice machine.
We were told to come down in the morning to possibly change rooms but the morning crew was clueless of our issue and not willing to move us nor be apologetic. I get they are tight on rooms, but a family of 4 should be accomodated not blown off like we are lucky to have a room. The conference portal had us prepay so we are stuck and they know it. Hence, We are miserable.

The location is great. Surprisingly more quiet in room than I expected. Bed was comfy. That’s the positive. Otherwise, not a place I wish to return to unless an emergency which is how we ended up there in the first place. Our room had a tiny bathroom with a plastic razor cover holding the drain open in tub, no plastic shower curtain but a very old tiny cloth one virtually guaranteeing a flooded floor, and clumps of hair in corners of toilet area. Some mold in shower. Sink was outside the bathroom. The bathroom area was just atrocious. We have stayed at the Andaz across the street which was amazing and this Inn at Ellis Square was just a yellowing dirty hotel. But if you are looking for a cheaper hotel in a good location or stuck needing last minute accommodations like us, it works.

The place has a pretty good location, but that’s really the main selling point. The room was ok, but nothing great. If you’ve stayed at a Hampton Inn, it’s pretty comparable, if not slightly better than this room. Parking was $ 16/​day (I am annoyed that I have to pay to park at a hotel when I’ve already spent so much on the room, but I guess that’s just normal when you stay downtown). When we checked in, they mentioned they had a hot breakfast in the morning, so I was kind of excited about it. However, their breakfast is a typical cheap cereal, some breads, waffle station, and terrible powdered eggs and sausage so greasy, I think I had a mild heart-​attack just looking at it.
One of the days we came back to the room, the cleaning lady had left our door open after she finished cleaning it. Luckily nothing was taken, but that could’ve been very bad! The bathroom was also incredibly tiny, and difficult to move around in. All-​in-​all, it wasn’t the worst experience, but I’ve definitely had better.

All I use a hotel for is sleeping and showering so my requirements are cleanliness and a good location. The room was small with a very tiny bathroom. Did like that there was a wood floor. Excellent location for a launch pad for exploring historic Savannah. It was one street away from River Street and really close to some great restaurants and had a cvs nearby.

Good location and reasonably clean room although one of the bedsheets was stained a disgusting black color. Housekeeping didn’t want to clean our room so they had us sign next to our name on a sheet that it was okay not to (didn’t ask whether that was okay or not).
The worst surprise came when it was time to pay for parking. Although we’d been told it would be $ 16 per night, we were charged twice per day we stayed. When we inquired, the woman at the desk with poofy hair and blue eyeshadow was incredibly and unnecessarily rude as she told us it was because we had two people in our party and the parking charge was per guest. I don’t know if this ridiculous policy is really true or if she just made it up to not have to deal with the extra charges but the price gouging and the rude way we were treated will ensure we’ll choose a different hotel our next stay in Savannah.

This place gets a solid 4 stars mainly for its location. 3 stars for the hotel overall. So 3.5 but I’m rounding up to 4 because I’m feeling generous.
Located right off of Ellis Square, this is one of many places to stay if you’re visiting for the first time. Mainly because of how centrally located it is to many of Savannah’s sights. So no need for a car! As far as the hotel goes, we had 2 rooms reserved for 6 people. Our rooms were located on the first floor right off the main lobby. There were a few complaints about some rowdy noise coming from the lobby so keep that in mind if you’re ultra sensitive to. If so, maybe request a room on an upper level or further away from lobby. The small hotel bar seemed to be the place to be for the Senior Citizens. They were constantly packed and lively during our entire stay.
The rooms were not huge but had everything we needed for a short stay. I also really liked that they had wooden floors. There were a few things I noticed. The connection for cable wasn’t very clear. There was some static on some of the stations and it never let up. While this didn’t ruin our stay, it may for someone who just wants to hang out in their hotel room their entire stay. Also, the shower temperatures were a major concern. They would go from cold to extremely HOT at a moment’s notice– no in between. To the point of being slightly burned. And it wasn’t just our room. The occupants in our other room had the same complaint. Definitely an issue they need to address.
The parking situation was convenient for the most part. They have a garage right next door to their hotel. For the times when it is completely full, there is an overflow lot across the street. So that helps alleviate the stress of trying to find a place to park. Of course there is an additional charge for parking but it’s reasonable.
Overall, for the money we shelled out this was a decent option to stay in prime Savannah real estate.

If anyone ever told me they were going to Savannah, the first thing I’d say is be sure not to stay in the Inn on Ellis Square. Our room is extremely small, cramped, and stuffy. Tiny vanity with no counter space. Rickety ironing board and no ironing board stand, so it’s just propped against the wall in the coat area. I found two long black hairs in my bed last night (my hair is brown), and the room is very dusty.
I was prepared to give two stars until I saw the continental breakfast. Basically the same stuff you get at Motel 6. Make your own waffle station, toast, cheap cereal, etc. Save yourself the disappointment and avoid this place.

Hotel was in a perfect location. Booked a king suite and this room is huge. They had a special on their website and got the room for a great price. The parking can fill up fast but we were able to park in it both nights. The complimentary breakfast was great. They had waffles, omelettes, sausage, toast and more. The bed was comfortable and the rooms are not spotless. This is an old building so that comes along with it. It was not dirty by any means though. Savannah has a lively nightlife so you may hear people stumbling in throughout the night. This hotel is situated right in the middle of everything! We had a great time here and will be back.

They have king suites or double rooms. We stayed two nights in one of the king suites… first off the room was spacious. It consisted of two rooms, one was the bedroom with a tv and the other had a couch and a tv so that was nice. If you do stay here make sure you ask for a room NOT by the elevator. These rooms are not sound proof AT ALL! Any little conversation going on in the hallway you hear it all. This made for terrible sleeping. We were facing the river on the top floor however, the view wasn’t that great. The location was really good since it was right in front of city market and right behind river street. They do charge you $ 16 a day for parking which is steep and the breakfast in the am is absolute chaos. Would we stay here again? No.

Das «Inn at Ellis Square» ist ein überaus charmantes Südstaatenhotel im historischen Zentrum von Savannah, einem ohnehin sympatischen Städchen in Georgia, Südstaaten eben. In den historischen Altstadtsträsschen wähnt man sich schnell zurück versetzt in die Zeiten einer Scarlett O’Hara. Pittoresk die dazu passenden Pferdekutschen, die die Besucher durch die Straßen fahren.
Viel Holt bestimmt das «Inn at Ellis Square, dass in dem historischen Guckenheimer Building residiert. Nicht nur die historischen eichenbestandenen Alleen sind in fußläufiger Distanz, sondern vor allem auch die Promenade am Savannah River, beliebtes Ziel für den frühen Abendspaziergang.
Bereits die Lobby des Hotels wirkt äußerst ansprechend: riesige Blumenarrangements in prächtigen Vasen, Kristalllüster und dicke Teppiche sorgen für gehobenes Ambiente.
Irgendwie stellt man sich hier eher Reifröcke denn Shorts und FlipFlops vor, aber da kennt der Amerikaner ja nichts.
Im Zimmer setzt sich die Gemütlichkeit fort. Wir hatten ein Doppelzimmer gebucht, nahmen dafür aber gerne das Upgrade und wohnten komfortabel in einem Schlafzimmer mit Kingsize Bett und old school Kopfende aus poliertem Holz mit passender Kommode, sowie einem kleinen Salon mit gemütlicher Couch, Flatscreen auf der Anrichte, und einem Sekretär vor dem Fenster, eingeschränkte Sicht nach draussen, denn in Savannah wird Gardine vor den Sprossenfenstern getragen.
Die Ausstattung ließ keine Wünsche offen: Minibar, WLAN, Briefpapier, genügend Ablagemöglichkeiten und Schrankfläche sowie den für Amerika typischen Wasserkocher mit einigen Tütchen Tee und Kaffee. Gut immer, dass man das Wasser aus dem Hahn nutzen kann und nicht immer die Gallonen kaufen muss.
Apropos Wasser: herrlich, das old fashioned Badezimmer mit seinen Jugendstileuchten, die es in warmes gelbes Licht tauchen und der üppigen Bestückung in kuscheligem Frottee, sei es in Handtuch– oder Bademantelform.
Wir haben uns hier ausnehmend wohl gefühlt.
Für Hotelgäste ist das Parken kostenfrei (was in Savannah gerne sonst teuer ist).
Einzig die Frühstückssituation passte nicht so ganz zu all der Ausstattung. Nicht nur, dass man seinen Kaffee aus Pappbechern trinken musste, die nach dem Essen in große Müllbehälter entsorgt wurden oder mitgenommen (offenbar setzte man hier auf die to-​go-​Variante), sondern auch der Frühstücksraum als solcher fiel ausstattungstechnisch ab. Außerdem war das Platzangebot unterdimensioniert.
Wissend darum, kauft man sich lieber einen Happen im Supermarkt, parkt ihn über Nacht in der Minibar und frühstückt gemütlich in den eigenen Zimmerwänden mit coffee from the coffee machine

This was an awesome hotel! Loved the hardwood floors so much cleaner than the usual hotel carpet.
Our room was nice and quiet on the first floor. Staff were very helpful. The bedding in this hotel was super comfortable and clean! I’ve never slept better in a hotel room. The sheets were actually soft and didn’t smell of bleach. The pillows were great. The bed had a white duvet on it so you could actually see it was clean. I wanted to take that bed home with me!
Parking lot was right at hotel. Only problem is they should let you be able to pull into parking lot before you check in. There wasn’t room to wait out front while we checked in.
We got this through a coupon deal. It would have been worth it even at full price.

I was in Ellis Square at night and I didn’t see ghost. YES! Instead I saw ratchets! :-/
In the area for St. Patrick’s Day weekend with some friends enjoying the festivities. After going up and down some shady stairs we decided to find a nice spot and just people watch. Earlier we watched horse draw coaches parade people about while a concert slowly was setting up. But after dark people covered in green took pics of some drunk dude with a t-​shirt saying «turnup!» Dude was passed out (might have been taking a nap at about 11pm) on the grass.
It made for a great resting area to just chat and crack up about all the entertaining sights that passed as we waited on the rest of our friends.

Great stay, huge suite, quiet and walking distance to everywhere in Savannah you wanna be.
I see a lot of folks had issues with parking, but we had none. There is a large parking garage next to the hotel, and we kept our vehicle there the entire weekend. I see other people had issues with plumbing or the air conditioner, but everything in room 239 was fully functional. In fact, it looks as if the hotel was recently renovated, so maybe our timing is impeccable. Not sure, but what I can say is that I couldn’t see staying anywhere else while visiting this sleepy old city.

This is not like a normal Days Inn. Its a hotel. I got a deal online and since I didn’t pay a lot I was very pleased. Parking is $ 13 a night extra. Check in is at 400p… so come 400p there are loads of people trying to park where there is not any parking as you have to get your parking entry card at check in! Other than that… all was fine. Breakfast is free, and well tended too, but nothing all that exciting. Id probably walk over to Goose Feathers across the square next time. The bed was very good quality, the bedding very good quality but too many pillows. Internet was fast and good. HINT. IF YOU EXIT hotel with bags go to the east end of the parking deck and there is an elevator. The side most go to as its where the cars enter and is closer to front desk doesn’t have elevator.

I took advantage of a Groupon to stay at the Inn so I could attend a conference at the nearby DoubleTree. I love the location of the hotel and not only is it very easy to get to, but it is near everything downtown. I thought the staff were very friendly and my room was clean and comfortable. However, I did have some issues:
1. Why is parking not covered for hotel guests? I didn’t mind parking in the deck right next to the hotel, but don’t see why I have to pay $ 13 a night just for parking.
2. The breakfast situation needs to be sorted out. Yes, there were a number of food options, but the weekend I was there was also very busy for the hotel and breakfast was damn near pandemonium. I took one look at the crowds of AARP-​aged folks milling around and thought that the breakfast would be fraught with peril. So I grabbed a couple of bananas and a newspaper and headed back to my room.
3. How is it possible that a hotel this large has such a terrible gym? First off, it is in the basement, down a flight of stairs — almost tucked away as an after thought. Second, it is a little smaller than one of the actual hotel rooms. And worst of all, it is very poorly equipped. One elliptical machine, one treadmill, some free weights and a sit up bench that is falling apart. What is this — Grambling’s weight room?
4. Two of the lights in my room didn’t work out. Now, I didn’t say anything to the front desk, but shouldn’t everything work in a room BEFORE I check in?
I would consider staying here again, but some of these simple things need to be worked out first.

So I agonized a bit before canceling our reservation at SpringHill Suites and booking the IES, based on some of the reviews here and on Trip Advisor. But I just got back from a weekend in Savannah and it was a great stay there.
We had a suite with 2 double beds and it was obviously one of the renovated ones — flatscreen TV, tall vaulted ceilings, comfortable beds, L-​shaped room. Also came with a couch /​chair area, refrigerator, and microwave, and I think about 3 sinks total! (there were 2 of us so we each had our own, which was nice)
Breakfast was crowded but had a good selection of food. I really liked the coffee and water station in the lobby, helped quench my thirst a few times.
My only complaints are small… Our room was at the corner of W. Bay and Jefferson and was a bit noisy. Also when we asked for a late checkout, they said 1130am (normal checkout was 11), most places would give you until 12 or 1.
Overall, very happy with the IES and would stay here again! Cute hotel and can’t beat the room we got for $ 167/​n. Parking is $ 13/​day but I know some of the other area hotels are $ 18−20/day.

Ellis Square is more open than the other squares in Savannah, but that allows it to be a good place to let the kids run around. In the summer there is a fountain/​splash pad usually running. I don’t let my daughter play in it, because there are just way too many people around with cameras and you never know when one of them could be a creeper. If you aren’t overly paranoid about that type of thing, the kids really do enjoy playing in the water.
There are a few little tables, great for sitting with a bite to eat and people watching.
