Holy, ridiculous AMAZEballs… Best BBQ in the city. I’m embarrassed I’ve never eaten here.(You ALL should be hating on yourselves, as well.) Unbelievable meats, varying smokes, all 100% succulent, savory and continually mouth-watering, long after your stuffed. The sides are equally delicious, and I came on THE day for coconut cake.

Loved this place! Was off the beaten path a little bit but great service, reasonable food, and cheap beer! The Mac and cheese and pulled pork were awesome!

Located south of the busy historic district of Savannah, I came here for lunch after walking through Fortsyth Park. You won’t miss finding this place. It’s a traditional diner. The ribs, pulled pork, and Cole slaw were delicious. The food is great and the staff are great. The place was busy for lunch and so I ate at the counter. There is seating outside too. The bathroom is outside.

Ordered the Hog Wild Platter, and this beast of a meal was able to feed two hungry guys who loves BBQ. Great selection of sauces to smoother your meat in.

Excellent BBQ. Service was exceptional and quick. The meat was tender and the three different sauces complimented them well.

The best bbq pulled pork I’ve had in Savannah ! Friendly helpful staff and delicious food in a quirky old dinner from the 1930s. They offer 3 bbq sauces. Something for every taste. A must visit if you like pulled pork or brisket. Did I mention dessert — coconut cake!

I love old retro diner cars and this one is all I hoped for. The meat platter was awesome with the Sweet Potato Fries — I’m not a huge rib fan but these were the best I’ve had! I was surprised they would be my favorite part of the platter. Sauces are great, meats all super tender & service was extremely friendly and fast! Check them out!!!

Most amazing BBQ I’ve ever had! We ordered the platter and shared with 2 and it was perfect! Wish we lived in Savannah to go back because nothing in Miami can compare to this. So tasty! Waitress was also very informative and helpful.

Stopped in for a quick lunch today. Dining alone, I sat at the counter and was greeted upon arrival. The location was cozy and quaint. Looks like they do a lot of «to go» business. I ordered the Brunswick Stew, a side of collard greens, and a Tybee Island Blonde Ale. My order came out fast and tasted amazing! I would highly recommend this spot for other Savannah visitors!

Best BBQ I’ve ever had! My favorite part about living in Savannah is the food. Yes there are plenty of great fancy places to eat at, do not let this small time diner look fool you. Some of the best food in Savannah are the small places, and this really is one of the best. I am only judging by the brisket and collard greens that I had but their BBQ sauce surpasses anything I’ve ever had. You can literally smell the smoked BBQ goodness while driving by.

Very cool restaurant setting, pulled pork sandwiches were very good and moist, 3 different sauces to choose from and hand cut French Fries. Will be back when visiting Savannah!

What an experience with smoked BBQ! This place is amazing. The brisket is so delicious, the bread to die for and even if I’m not a sweet potato fan, these are really exceptional. And do not forget to taste their homemade bbq sauces. They add so much flavors to the meat. One advice, come early. If not they will be sold out on food.

I saw the Sandfly Bbq at the Streamliner on one of New York Times’ «36 hour» videos about Savannah! I was so excited to try it out as it is right down the road from me and in a STREAMLINER– how cool is that? While the concept was cool, parking was ample, and staff was friendly the overall experience was NOT. Signs outside indicated that restaurant was about to close down for an entire week during 4th of July, while this is an excellent perk for hard-working employees who deserve time off, especially in the food service industry, it seemed to have a very serious effect on the menu and quality of food. Several menu items were not available. As far as the mains go: sausage as well as brisket were out as well as a few sides and beers. Which is half of the menu. We had to go with pork or chicken instead and the pork was small portions for a BBQ joint and very dry. It tasted like yesterday’s leftovers heated up. Finally, the structure itself was VERY hot inside and there were many flies taking over the small space. I expected more from a place with rave reviews and several local awards. Maybe the ambiance over powers the quality of food? Maybe the brick and mortar location in Sandfly is better? I am not sure, but I wouldn’t recommend this part of the venture.

Absolutely darling, filled with charm and the food was fabulous! I had the brisket sandwich with Cole slaw and baked beans and my husband had the pulled pork plate with the same sides. The meat was super moist and tender, Cole slaw was better than mine! The beans were good as they had bits of meat in them but a bit too much smoke for my taste. Being the inside of an old dining car gives it such great charm. Décor is authentic:) The service was great and very fast. Loved the counter, though we sat in a booth. Weather you live here or traveling on holiday in Savannah put this place on your list. You won’t be disappointed.

MYTASTEBUDSAREINHEAVEN! We have not enjoyed a bbq joint as much as the Sandfly in quite some time. The pulled pork, ribs and brisket were falling off the bone delicious with charred ends and intense smoky flavor. Yum. Beyond yum. The meat is served without sauce and you add as much or as little of the several sauce options as you care to. We shared the Hog Wild Platter and are stuffed to our eyeballs. The sides were excellent — especially the macaroni and cheese, collards and sweet potato fries. However, the best item on the menu was the incredibly moist and incredibly delicious coconut cream cake. OMG. OMG. OMG. Every bite was luscious! It is made fresh daily. I will drive hundreds of miles out of my way for another slice of this cake. What can make the experience better? Attentive and friendly service. Everyone at the Sandfly was great, but we loved our server Marvin. He made another meal out extra special! Thanks Marvin!

Fantastic BBQ. Get the Hog wild platter and share with someone who is a good sharer. Sausage is top notch! Brisket is legit. Pork and chicken were very moist and tasty. The mustard based sauce was one of the best BBQ sauces I’ve ever had. Wife enjoyed the coconut cake too!

Seriously the best BBQ I’ve ever had! You must eat here. The wife and I stopped by here for lunch while visiting Savannah. We ordered the Hog Wild Platter to split. The platter came with ribs, pulled chicken, pulled pork, sausage and beef brisket. It only took one bite of the chicken for me to remark that it was the best chicken I’d ever had. For me the highlight of the platter was the beef brisket and the pulled chicken, but all the meats along with the classic sauce were amazing. Besides the insanely good food, the atmosphere was pretty hip, and the service was extremely friendly. This is a must eat at destination of Savannah.

So where do you go for lunch on Independence Day and it’s too late to smoke a pig, chicken or brisket. Well conveniently not far from my place is a little joint in an old streamliner now serving BBQ. Apparently this location used to be called Streamliner Café. I’d been by this location a 100 times since I live a little way down Barnard St. Hungry for some BBQ and too early to hit the bars, not really, but I don’t want to sound too much like a lush, I got on my bike and rode to the Sandfly. It was slow; I guess due to it being July 4 there was only one other table being served when I arrived. I bellied up to the counter because it was hot and the AC was blowing quite well at the counter. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice the swarm of flies in the diner until after I had sat down and began to order. I don’t believe the owners named the place Sandfly because they wanted to promote the swarm of flies in the restaurant. I was hungry and I really wanted to try the food, so I just dealt with the fly issue. I noticed they had a nice beer selection, with a number of local craft beers, along with some regional craft beers, imports and your standard domestics. I resisted and ordered a sweet tea since I had indulged late into Friday night/Saturday morning. My review of the tea is, it’s sweet, so if you like sweet tea, order it. The menu doesn’t have a ton of choices. It’s your standard BBQ menu, ribs, pulled pork, brisket, smoked chicken and sausage. Being this was my first time, I decided to go with the Hog Wild platter, which had all of the previously listed meats, along with Texas Toast,(Hook ‘em Horns), and 2 sides. The choices of sides were baked beans, collard greens, cole slaw, mac and cheese, potato salads, French fries, green beans and sweet potato fries. I opted for the potato salad and mac and cheese. The potato salad was average, not bad, but nothing I would have to order again. Now onto the mac and cheese and in my opinion mac and cheese have three class levels. Class 3: Meh, it’s noodles with cheese, nothing to write home about. You enjoyed her company, but there just wasn’t much there. Class 2: Hey, this is good, they’re onto something, but something isn’t giving you the butterflies in your stomach feeling. You want to see her again and you’re hoping, next time, there spark will be there. Class 1: Holy shit! This is amazing!!! She may be crazy, but I love crazy, you get the butterflies in your stomach and the wow factor, this could be the one… Wait, what were we talking about, oh yeah mac and cheese. Guess I got a little off subject. I would rate the mac and cheese as Class 2. They are onto something, but just not quite there… yet. Well, let’s talk about the thing we are all here for… MEAT!!! Delicious tender, mouthwatering, smack the counter, no, not smack your mama, don’t you dare smack any woman. Now let’s talk MEAT!!! As I mentioned I got the Hog Wild platter and I’ll review eat meat separately. Pulled Pork… moist, tender, great smoke flavor…5 stars Brisket…moist, tender, great smoke flavor and smoke ring and great bark…5 stars… being from TX, we can be a little snobby when it comes to our brisket. Smoked chicken… moist, tender, great smoke flavor, nice mix of white and dark meat…4 stars… it’s just chicken Rib…moist, tender, nice smoke flavor and smoke ring, easily comes off the bone…4 stars Smoked sausage… nice seasoning, cooked nicely…3.5 stars There are three sauces… sweet(ketchup based), regular(mustard based), and hot(vinegar based). I mixed the hot and sweet. Overall I would give the meal 4.3 stars… because that’s how math works. For my overall experience, I would give it 4 stars. I have to mark off because of the flies. I realize some things cannot be controlled, but there were so many dive bombing me and landing all over me and the food, it took away from the experience. I definitely recommend giving this place a try and I will definitely be back, hopefully many times and without the flies. And if you’re wondering, I made three meals out of this platter. It’s a great dish to split.

Awesome BBQ place located in a great old streamliner. The menus is concise, mainly ribs, chicken, salad, sandwiches, a soup. The prices are good too. Beer and wine is coming. I had ribs(excellent, with 3 sauce options) cole slaw which was nice and cold. You could tell it had been in the fridge and not sitting out somewhere. Amazing string fries. Comes with toast even. The service was great too! Can’t wait to go back!
