Description

Specialties

The Schulze Eye & Surgery Center specializes in laser and refractive surgery such as LASIK, PRK, and the ICL (implantable contact lens), as well as custom cataract surgery with toric and multifocal intraocular lenses. We were the first practice in the area to offer sutureless corneal transplants for Fuchs’ endothelial dystrophy (DMEK and DSEK).

History

Established in 1965.

Over 50 years ago, Dr. Richard Schulze, Sr. began practice in Savannah. Dr. Schulze was the first surgeon in Georgia to insert an intraocular lens and the first surgeon in Georgia to perform phacoemulsification and sutureless cataract surgery.

In 1995, Dr. Schulze, Jr. joined the practice and began to carry on the legacy of innovation established by his father, adding refractive surgery such as LASIK, PRK, and the ICL to the inventory of procedures offered by the practice.

In 1996, the Schulze Surgery Center, the very first surgery center specializing in eye surgery in coastal Georgia, was constructed, allowing our patients access to better quality and lower costs as compared to hospital based surgery.

Dr. Schulze, Jr. performs custom cataract surgery with toric and multifocal implants, sutureless corneal transplants, and refractive surgery such as LASIK, PRK, and the Visian ICL (implantable contact lens).
