Thrifty Rent A Car

Worst car rental experience EVER. The clerk at the airport desk was rude and condescending. She insisted that every car rental company at the airport had the same policy as Thrifty — that we could only rent the car with a debit card IF we paid an extra $ 15 a day for their insurance! We refused and checked with all the other rental companies. They ALL said that was not their policy. We went to Hertz and got a better deal and the clerk was very friendly and helpful. We stopped by the Thrifty desk on our way to get the Hertz car and told her she was wrong. Her only response was «good for you.» I tweeted Thrifty about this awful experience but, of course, got NO response from them. I suspect they know how bad their customer service is and just don’t care.

The clerk, Alexandra R, could not have been ruder! After trying to upsell me into renting a Mustang convertible, she lied and said that it was state law to purchase Thrifty’s liability insurance. When it’s not. And when it’s already covered on your credit card. And not so much as a «Thank You,» «Welcome to the Sticks», anything.
Skip Thrifty and book elsewhere. Or walk.

Overcharge customers. Clueless/​unprofessional employees. Non-​existent customer service. Listen to the reviews and go elsewhere!
Desk clerk clearly overwhelmed when I picked up my car. No other help insight and irate customer on line. I clearly stated that I did NOT want supplemental insurance. Wasn’t until I returned car that I noticed my bill was almost double my quote. When I questioned employee, I was told I accepted insurance. I argued and was told that there was nothing that could be done until «Kimberly, the Manager» reviewed a tape made when I originally picked up car. (According to this employer, customers are taped while they rent a car in case of discrepancies later). 2 months later… I’m still waiting for Kimberly the Manager to take my call.
Thrifty Corporate does not have any control over individual rental sites. I tried… be warned.

Inexpensive, clean car, quick. Ignore the haters, Thrifty worked best for us and it will work best for you.

Awful, just awful customer service. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Worst customer service I’ve had in a long time. Inflexible, rude and downright crabby staff. I will never rent a car from them again. There are too many car rental places at airports to be treated this way.

Wow, what incompetence and inability to get anything done on time. I’ve been so frustrated dealing with these people. Does the Corporate know about them?

The only reason this place did not receive one star is because a manager finally came over to help. The place is way understaffed and limited on cars. I recommend Avis at this airport.

I rented a car here over the Memorial Day weekend, starting the Wednesday before. The one thing keeping them from 5 stars was the fact that they didn’t have *my* car available that I reserved. (They can MAKE the reservation, they just can’t KEEP the reservation…(Seinfeld)) They did offer me a free upgrade to another vehicle (many choices); however, I was a little too particular since I had specific plans, but Kay gave me a super deal with a very minor upgrade charge to the vehicle I got. I also had a reservation at Enterprise, and she encouraged me to check with them first, so I could get the car I wanted. Perhaps she knew how UNhelpful and almost rude they would be, and that I would be back in short order.
Kay and her coworker (blonde, friendly gal) were delightful, and so much of a joy, that I actually made a point of stopping back in to see them when I returned the car. Even the gal outside with the cars was very friendly and helpful. I’m so glad I didn’t read these reviews before renting from Thrifty… the rate was great and even with the upgrade it was cheaper than smaller, ‘yukkier’ cars from the other companies. I love the convenience of having the car rental counters in the airport, and the cars just a few feet away.
Kay is an absolute doll, and despite other reviews, I“ll be stopping here next time I visit Savannah as well.

To all of my business friends that rent cars. DON’T RENT FROM THRIFT. Does anyone work for Thrifty? My guess is no. How do I know this? I returned a car to the airport in Savannah Ga over a week ago. The person couldn’t process a one way rental. I filled out a form and they said they would send me the receipt. It has yet to be checked in. Every day I get threatening automated messages from Thrifty saying they will pursue legal action and report the vehicle stolen (a felony). They give you a number to call, but every time you call it says they are experiencing high call volume and no one ever picks up the phone. I have waited on hold several times in some cases for 30 minutes or more.
I called the Savannah location where I returned the car asking them to resolve this and no one ever follows up. I keep asking for a receipt so I can file my expenses and I can’t get that information. I called customer service to see if they can resolve this and guess what «we are experiencing high call volume» and no one answers. I posted the information about the issue on their customer service/​customer complaint website. Several days later, I still have no reply.
I am a frequent renter and never have had such an experience. How are these guys still in business?

First off, let me set things straight — most all of the car rental places in Savannah airport have very surly staff. I’ve never been inclined to do a negative write up on any of them but the lousy service I have received from Thrifty this morning and on my previous visit (St. Patrick’s Day weekend) have pushed me to that point.
They couldn’t find my res and even though they had cars available, wouldn’t match the rate on the Travelocity email which I produced. So I called Thrifty’s central reservations on my cell and had the lady there talk to «Miss Congeniality» behind the counter who then found my res. What really bothered me was upon completion of the paperwork, no «thank you», no «sorry for the screw-​up», nothing.
I then proceeded to pick up the car and waited 20 minutes for them to bring something around.
As seen in other posts, this place is very poorly managed.

Reserved a car. On arrival, no car available. Couldn’t say when they might have one. The clueless agent said it was not their fault, but their customers because «they return them late.» Obviously this place is poorly managed.
I fly frequently to Savannah and have used most off the competitors, who have always been fine. Thrifty is in a class of its own and should be avoided at all costs.

When I picked up my rental car, it was filthy. It didn’t look like the inside had been cleaned at all. There were dusty footprints on the dashboard, trash left in the side of the doors & other compartments and a sticky mess was left in the cupholders. There were also bugs smashed on the INSIDE of the windshield, so that obviously hadn’t been cleaned either.
And to top it all off, I had to pay a $ 150 deposit, of which they only refunded me $ 50 of. When I contacted them, they had no explanation as to why I only got $ 50 back.
Extremely pissed off, and will never rent with Thrifty again.

Two words: INSECT INFESTATION
We picked up my toddler son out of his carseat — for which we paid $ 8 in rental fee per day — and found that it was INFESTED WITH ANTS. I recognized that it was pretty filthy — clearly, Thrifty doesn’t clean the seats at all between rentals. But it was the last carseat, so we took it. And then were stuck with it for three days DURING WHICH TIME IT WAS INFESTED WITH ANTS.
OK, so they were non-​bitey ants, but seriously, Thrifty — you can’t go over the damn seat with a Wet Wipe and shake the cookie crumbs out?
