Aamco Transmissions

Rich the manager was nice enough in the beginning. But nice does not fix a car. He agreed to look at the transmission for 400.00 and if it turned out to be something we were unwilling to fix he would put it back together for the same 400.00 and call it good. We then would tow it out and deal with it. It is a 1999 and a new trans is not in the picture. That was November 17, 2014. We just got the car back and we advised him we did not want to pay 2400.00 to fix it. The car was not worth it. So for over two months nothing was done and in the final hour he put the car on the rack and told us the news. When we said we did not want to fix it he started quoting other prices on rebuilds and used trans that he could get. We still said no and we were coming to pick it up. He assured us it was back together in the same condition we left it. When we arrived, we asked him to fill out a bill of sale even though he did not charge us. He was hesitant. My fiancé and I went out to the car and the battery was dead. We just purchased the batter two months before we left it there. He said he had no idea why it wouldnt start and would b\put the battery on a charger over night and we could come back with a tow truck tomorrow. We went back the next day and the car still did not start. The engine started the day we left it in November. Frustrated, we called a tow truck and had the car towed away. the engine is in excellent condition, we brought it in for the trans. He wrote the bill out stating it was our request not to have any work done. No, it was our request to get a ball park as to how much it would be to fix it and then make the decision. I believe he inflated the price and I also believe that it was not the trans after all. I really think it was the harness. Now even if we want to part the car out, we can not prove that the engine runs because he left the trans in pieces and nothing is connected. The car when started in November could go backwards, and park. But now there is no park gear and we have wheel chucks keeping it from rolling. I am so disgusted with the way we were treated. We gave him all the time he needed when in fact we should have had an answer in less than a week as to what the problem was. My suggestion, stay clear of this place. There are many other trans places in Schaumburg. should have checked Unilocal first.

BEWARE! RIP OFF ALERT!
Wanted 1000 to change TWO Knock Sensors… They quoted me 248.00 per knock sensor — the only problem is that this is a 40.00 part. 200.00 mark up?! Seriously?!
They also quoted 5 hours labor. Look, this is a 3 hour job… tops…and I was quoted for the same job from 2 other locations (non AAMCO and even more specialized and reputable) at 750 and less.
Bottom line: You’re better off doing the work even if you have no knowledge of what you’re doing and have never seen a wrench in your life than taking your car here

My car was experiencing an issue with a sensor…2 auto mechanics and AutoZone confirmed this. I decided to try to get Aamco to fix my car due to the proximity from my house. Needless to say, they did not get my business.
The worker that helped me was flat out rude. He also did not take the time to fully absorb and listen to my issue. Also, my car was over 1 ½ hours late from the consultation.
Now since my car was 1 ½ hours late… I was at the shop when the tech returned from the test run. He stated that my issue was something with a pump (contradicting 3 other reviews). When I asked the front desk specific questions about his analysis… he asked the mechanic who refused to get off the personal call with his girlfriend. I knew it was a personal call because he was walking around on the phone talking to her and not helping me out (hence the reason my car was 1 ½ hours late).
I trusted my gut and went with a different mechanic. My problem was solved quicker and cheaper. In addition, the work that Aamco wanted to perform was not going to be the work I needed to get done. Most likely… Aamco would have ran 4 times the amount from other garages.
Also, while I was waiting forever at the garage… I did hear about a customer that was serviced by these guys. Apparently a wheel fell off an Explore that was serviced at this shop a week prior. These guys were rude to the customer on the phone, proceeded to be rude about the customer following their conversation, and refused to admit fault for the wheel.
Don’t go to Aamco!!!
