I usually go to Amazing Fantasy in Frankfort, which is closer to my home. But, I was in the area and needed to get some new issues so I stopped by Dreamland. It’s quite a bit smaller than my usual store, the comics are only arranged by alphabet, with no separate section for new releases. There aren’t very many back issues on the floor, there could be more in the back(I didn’t ask). They did have some neat tabletop games, t shirts, etc. but a small sampling of these as well. This was made up for by the courteous staff though, and I would suggest going there if all your looking for is new issues. Also, not a great hangout, as there are no spots for gaming in the store. I may have been spoiled by A&F!

Used to come here as a kid when it was«Moondogs.» The place is overpriced in general. The lady that works there is really nice. The guy is rude and not very helpful. The comic store industry is tough, and I will not be coming back here. So many better stores

What a great comic store. I was immediately greeted by a very kind woman who allowed me to peruse at my leisure. There were several families in the store with kids running around and playing and she could have easily been irritated, but she was very kind to all the patrons in the store. The store is very clean and very well organized, perhaps one of the better I have frequented in the Chicago area. They had a great selection of current books and back issues. They had a lot of various collectables and some statues. I would give the store five stars had they a better selection of statues, but the selection is pretty limited. I understand that they are costly, eat up capital, and take up real estate, but I like many like going into stores and seeing these before purchasing.

This is the way comic stores are supposed to be. The store is very clean and has a wide variety of comics. Nice focus on kids comics. They even have a small amount of sports cards. This may be the best comic store I’ve ever stopped in.

I’ve browsed for comics at this location a few times and it seemed fine — well stocked and such. Then came the day I made my first purchase there. I had picked up a new series after a friend recommended it to me and this is how my conversation with the guy at the counter happened: Guy: Oh, picking this up? Me: Yeah, a friend recommended it to me, so I figure I’d check it out. Guy: Your friend doesn’t know anything. (End of conversation) That was all he said. He obviously doesn’t have to agree with me or my friend. But he could have easily worded it differently and even suggested something else to me if he felt that strongly about my reading choices. I didn’t say anything because I instantly resolved that if this is how they talk to their customers, I’d rather shop elsewhere. That was 2 years ago; my friend shops there and we’re fairly certain that the person I had to deal with is the same person they see there now(going by description and personality comparisons). My friend says that there’s a really nice lady who works there as well, but they seem to have switched schedules. They are now thinking about going elsewhere.

I’m not sure if any comic book store is perfect. It’s got to be difficult to decide how best to use the space in your business. You know you’ll need a full wall for your comics, but how much space do you give to back issues? To graphic novels? To action figures, trading cards, and other collectibles? And what makes your store a place that will bring repeat business? Comic book stores answer these questions in different ways, which is why, at least in this area, making trips to multiple comic shops is pretty typical if you have a specific comics and collectibles list. Like many other comic book stores in the area, Dreamland has their own strengths and weaknesses, but largely, Dreamland is a solid bet and worth visiting. Dreamland is a smaller store, but it’s well kept. It’s very clean and organized, so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for pretty quickly. Because it’s a bit smaller, less space is devoted to comics back issues than other stores. It does have a great selection of action figures, trading cards, and graphic novels though. And of course, the store has the full spread of comics that you’d expect. What you might not expect are all of the variant covers and high-end collectible comics. They have high grade comics from the past several decades, rare variants of modern comics, and other hard-to-find stuff that collectors would treasure. They also typically stock most variants for current issues on shelves, which is something I rarely see at other stores. This is a great place to go if you’re looking for a nice gift for a comics fan. Another thing that’s worth note is that all graphic novels/bound comic collections are 25% off every day. This is a great savings if you want to catch up on a series– the prices are cheaper(for the most part) than Amazon. When I said earlier that the selection of graphic novels is great, I mean it. It’s better than a good book store. If you don’t read comics all that often, but enjoy a good graphic novel, this is where you should get it. I’d also note that the people that work at this store are kind of great. I’m not sure that working at a comic book store and messing around with your inventory every day can be all that much fun, but these folks are champs. I rarely see them without a smile, and when the store isn’t too busy they are all fun to talk to. They’re also great at finding back issues that no one else has(even if they don’t have them on-site) and getting them to you in a hurry. Yes, their customer service is great. So Dreamland might not have absolutely everything you want– but who does? Dreamland is a dependable place for people that like collecting(and displaying) their favorite comics and collectibles, and offers affordable prices and a great shopping experience. If you don’t have everything, that’s a big deal. I’m a fan, and I’d definitely recommend them.

ON-LINESHOPPINGONTHEIRWEBSITE I Pre-orderd 5 comics on their website for $ 3.95 and that price was up more than 5 days, when i purchased i get an email confirming purchase was made and about three hours later they send me an email saying«sorry but we canceled your order because an error on the purchase i made» thats it. i send them a few emails and never reply back and then i send a final email, this what i sent back «I have notice you chose not to reply back on my reply’s and it seems that you feel it’s un fair or you not to sell me this comics because of personal mistaken over view prices in your inventory but that doesn’t mean I should pay by losing my chance on purchasing this comic for a very low price, it should some consideration to offer me at least 2 of them for the price mistakenly advertise to a future customer. It seems that this is not fault and I assure you don’t make this mistake often but it would be very professional resolving my problem with my future purchase. I assure if you take care if this I will clearly mention your great effort of problem solving my situation over a misunderstanding advertising a comic in your site, this will boost your future clientele. Please reply . Thank you for corporation Alvin» until now no response or compensation for a future customer, lost my business for sure. very unhappy to not acknowledge my me at all.

This is concerning their website. I wanted to get a graphic novel, and no other stores carried it — unless it was where they where charging an arm and leg. Dreamland Comics had a reasonable price — and it shipped and arrived at my place before I even knew it! I was actually taking a risk on this, because there are some negative comments about, really smear campaigns, that nearly made me not buy from them. I decided to give them a chance with this book(since they where the only ones offering a reasonable price) — and it worked out great! There is a downside, though. Their website is VERY clunky and hard to use. They also have a delay with items that are out of stock, and don’t always make as clear as they could that certain books are pre-orders, and not regular orders. I think that’s where a lot of the negativity comes from, regarding their internet store. Anyway — as for an older TPB, that I was thrilled to find and get — I just wanted to add my good experience about the place to this list.

I came here once for the hell of it, because I love going to new comic book stores, and I was in the area. And I really didn’t like it here. Like I was going to give it two stars, but they had a ton of shit here, and looked like they were really well stocked so they got an extra star. But just didn’t seem very comic book shopy to me. And it just rubbed me the wrong way. Like I’m not some super nerd who’s all like«Comic book shops should sell comic books, and just comic book related things.» Because that’s fucking retarded. But I just didn’t care for this place, but I’m sure it’s a nice place.
