History

Established in 1930.

Our business was founded in 1930 during the throes of the Great Depression by Joseph Rosin and his brother Maurice Rosin. In fact, Joseph and his soon to be wife Freda decided to use the money he had saved for an engagement ring to open a modest optical shop on Cermak Road in Cicero, Illinois. Their idea was to provide a reliable and quality comprehensive service at a modest price. Rosin Eyecare was one of the first optical retail shops in Chicago that offered the convenience of same day eyeglasses decades before the major one-​hour retail chains did. When Joseph’s son Dr. Sorrel Rosin joined the practice in 1957, he began a period of expansion to meet the needs of Rosin Eyecare’s patients who have now moved out to the growing suburban areas around the city. Now run by the third generation of Rosins, James Rosin and Jonathan Rosin, M.D., Rosin Eyecare has been providing Chicago eye care for more than 85 years with its talented team of doctors and staff members.

Growing up with my dad and grandfather’s business fascinated me with the aspect of total eye care. Seeing each interaction and knowing that we have been able to help a patient see and feel their absolute best was such a rewarding experience. I knew that was what I wanted to continue when I came into our business in the 1980s. Today we offer the very best levels of total eye care across twenty locations in and around Chicago.
