I use The Finer Line at work for name badge orders and any awards that we need created. Everyone there is always polite, prompt, and really knowledgable. I work at a non profit and all of our orders are always well within our budget, which is usually not at all huge. Will continue to work with The Finer Line for all of our engraving needs.

I am the Volunteer Coordinator for Kenneth Young Center in Elk Grove Village. The staff at Finer Line Engraving Shoppe have helped us provide beautiful awards to our special volunteers. I have used The Finer Line for several years on a variety of products — engraved awards and name tags for my organization. Every time they have provided us with a quality product. All of the staff in the shop have been very helpful while choosing which awards and name tags to utilize. They know their products — I give them my needs and they help with suggestions that will fit that need and my budget. I think the only time I have made changes to a proof is when I gave them the wrong info — what a time saver for me! Recently, they went WAY out of their way to help me find something in which to carry my name tags to and from meetings while keeping them organized. As I mentioned, the final product always exceeds my expectations. I can’t recommend them highly enough!

I needed laser engraving for an art project. The engraving was large, and the Finer Line told me they could do up to 28″ long. I took my wood pieces to their shop and emailed them the design. The next day I emailed them to confirm that they were using the 28″ machine. They emailed me back that the machine was broken, and they only could do 20″. They had started to engrave my wood and I am not sure they would have told me they were making this huge change to my design if I had not emailed to check up on it. I expressed concern that the change in engraving would ruin my project and I asked them to stop working on it until I could do the math to see if I could still make it work. I told them I had only brought it to their shop, which is far away from my home in Logan Square, because they offered the larger machine. After thinking about it for 5 minutes I emailed them to go ahead with the project on the smaller machine. At this point I had no time to go out to Schaumberg, pick up my wood, and find somewhere else with a larger machine. An hour later they sent me an email saying they would not do my project because they were not sure they could do a job that would satisfy me. I called them and told them I was fine with whatever job they could do at this point, I just needed something. They said they didn’t feel comfortable doing it because of many different variables, including my demeanor. I was worried and a little frustrated when they told me I would not be getting the use of the larger machine, but I was not rude or angry. This was very normal give-​and-​take that would go on between a customer who needed some custom work done, and a company that attempts to provide that service. They said that it is not their fault that their larger machine broke, which is of course true and I would not hold that against them. But I also have to work through the consequences of that change because I designed the project to utilize their larger machine. They refused to do the work and told me my wood is waiting to be picked up at their loading dock. End of story.
This is the first review I have ever done on Unilocal.Mostly I’m not the reviewing type. But this was an awful experience. I left the shop today with an overwhelming feeling that they don’t care about me as the customer at all. What’s it to them if they call me a day before I was supposed to get my engraving and refuse to do the work they agreed to do – what do they care? But me, I’m totally screwed, left without recourse. My art exhibit was supposed to open the next day. If you can avoid the Finer Line, I certainly would.
