Dan’s Upholstery

When we got back from a vacation in July 2015 one of the cushions to our new brown leather couch was out in the driveway, shredded, and partially burned! The young lady who was house-​sitting had «no idea how it happened». In subsequent days we found a lot more evidence of an out-​of-​control party while we were gone! «Sandra» (not her real name) will not be doing any more sitting for us. I wish I could give her a Unilocal review !
Dan came to our rescue. He repaired the cushion to an exact match to the other two. He did it promptly, for less than his quote, and knew exactly where to source the replacement leather, foam pad, zipper, and backing.
Don’t let the hard-​at-​work messy appearance of his shop fool you — this guy is a PRO.

Dan did a great job repairing our leather couch, he did it the same day, he charged less than his quote, and now the couch is sturdier than when it was new. Dan reupholstered two chairs and did it perfectly. He had a great choice of fabrics, included some from Italy, which are hard to find here in the U.S.

Dan is a professional and his work is good. The turn around time, and ease of doing business with him was also exceptionally good.

I don’t dig this guy’s style — I went to him to ask for a quote to compare to another upholstery shop here in Santa Cruz and he immediately told me he didn’t have time to even consider working on the project I had in mind, not to mention the harsh words after that…
When I had asked for a general idea of cost his response was «I can’t fit you into my schedule & I’m really busy at the moment» —That just goes to show the amount of customer service already lacks on the phone…
He then began to slander almost every other upholstery business in Santa Cruz County — I wouldn’t go to him just based on his UN-​PROFESSIONALISM. Not to mention he flat out told me that HE DIDN’T HAVE TIME FOR ME… aren’t you in a service profession? Don’t you need customer’s to provide that service too?
I never received a quote yet I received a HORRIBLE taste in my mouth from the JACKASS’ attitude. Definitely would rather try going to ANY other upholstery shop just based on customer service alone… I wish I could give this place NO stars, that phone call really put a damper on my day.

Dan is a great guy, he put a new top on my Porsche recently. It turned out great and the price was just right. I don’t trust anybody to touch my car and was so nervous, but Dan got it done quick and did the job right. I recommend anybody who needs to have work done right go see Dan !

Dan is such a great person to work with on any upholstery project. He has reinvented and customized a brand new sleeper sofa for us. We needed a sleeper sofa but didn’t like the style. When Dan was finished, we had a mid century modern looking couch that didn’t resemble the former traditional sleeper we bought. Awesome! He also is making custom outdoor cushions for our concrete (uncomfortable) fire pit seating area. Cannot recommend him enough! Last of the owner operated businesses to work with… which is nice in this economy.

Excellent workmanship and reasonably quick turn around. We had three pieces of furniture reupholstered. The fabric was expensive but is very high quality — much higher quality than was on the furniture originally. The results were worth the cost.

Expensive! First had my cushions done by them and it was done on time and looked good. The price seemed kind of high but I went with it. Came back to have a chair done and the price he quoted was extremely high. I guess if you got the extra money it’s no big deal!

Excellent work for a very reasonable price. Most other upholstery shops quoted me $ 350 – 650 to recover my bench seat in my small pickup. Dan did it for $ 250 and it looks perfect.
I think he’s a one-​man shop so you’ll probably have to make an appointment and it may take a couple days but he did my seat in 24 hours. I would definitely recommend getting a quote from Dan.
