Above & Beyond Acupuncture

I have suffered from severe depression and anxiety for over a decade. I have sought help from medication, religion and psychiatry but nothing seemed sufficient until someone recommended a more holistic approach with acupuncture. I chose to make an appointment with Paul at Above & Beyond Acupuncture after researching reviews on Unilocal.Reviewer’s remarks are spot on.
As a L.Ac. (Licensed Acupuncturist) Paul is extremely talented in his trade, but I’ve discovered that treatment extends beyond the table. All sessions begin with a brief «sit down» discussion reviewing your progress and addressing any additional problems that may have I surfaced.
Above & Beyond Acupuncture is appropriately named because as a practitioner Paul does exactly that. Aside from my acupuncture treatments Paul has prescribed holistic herbs that I have benefitted from, has researched and recommended articles related to my condition, and often, will even shoot off a short text between sessions just to check in and see how I’m feeling.
Since I’ve sought out acupuncture both friends and family have commented on noticeable positive changes within me and I can only attribute the dramatic difference to the addition of acupuncture. The treatments I’ve received at Above & Beyond Acupuncture have equipped me with tools that I’m no longer just surviving with depression and anxiety, I’m thriving.

I love Paul! I’ve gone in a few times for help with migraines and found help in other areas. The environment is very calming and inviting. Paul adds to that as well and always listens. He hears not only what I say, but what I mean and what my body is saying. Thank you so much for all your help! I’ve told others about this place & Paul and will continue to recommend both.

I write this review conflicted & with great sadness and disappointment.
I was a loyal client of Paul’s since Dec 2015. I began acupuncture and cupping for anxiety, stomach issues, headaches, muscle soreness and chronic pain. I started going twice a week, consistently for three to four months, before dialing it back to once a week, and then recently, monthly.
It was always a long-​term goal of mine to be able to use acupuncture/​cupping sporadically when my body needed a reset. Recently when other expenses (and medical bills) became too high, I had to cut back on regular visits. It was NOT at all due to my unhappiness with the treatments. I always enjoyed them and felt they did help me, even when going infrequently.
However, it is here where my experience sours. I scheduled a follow-​up appointment, about a month from my last, for next week. Paul reached out to tell me he felt he couldn’t properly treat my case with such infrequent visits. I told him I completely understood and respect his opinion but it was not financially feasible at this time. I told him I’d defer to him regarding his recommendation of treatment going forward.
He suggested we STOP acupuncture until I could come weekly or biweekly. I agreed and had FULLY intended to return when financially the situation allowed. However, I then asked how to proceed in regards to my previously scheduled appointment for the following week. He told me he saw it best to cancel it until I could come more regularly.
I am shocked, disheartened and blindsided that he refused to honor my scheduled appointment (after previously saying he would). It made me feel like he didn’t see value in treating me, even one last time, when he realized he couldn’t upsell me into a future, more expensive package. In good faith, I feel honoring my appointment would have been the respectable and professional thing to do, especially considering how long I’ve been seeing him.
And, I would have returned at a later date.
Now I will not. And I felt it important to share my story.
When you struggle with health problems for a long period of time, like I have, and spend countless sessions confiding in someone and believing they have your best interest at heart, you’d hope they’d treat you better than this. I’ve spent a lot of money there over the last year+, so this final interaction leaves a VERY sour taste in my mouth.
Furthermore, I never complained about my treatments. I never said Paul didn’t deliver on his promises. In fact, he made it a point to never promise anything, and I liked that. I left every session feeling more relaxed, calm and in less pain. I thanked him countless times and told him I was grateful for his help. To be treated like this when I couldn’t open my wallet deeper is eye-​opening.
I am saddened to lose this resource, which had been helpful.
Paul is good at what he does, but often comes across as brazen and unsympathetic. So, if you are sensitive like me, and expect empathy and understanding, I sadly do not recommend this clinic.
In the end, our personalities clashed, and it sadly outdid all the good that was being done on the table. Truly disappointing.
I hope no one else has to experience something like this in their quest to get relief from health ailments.

I am impressed at the look of the practice. Every attention to detail was given in the creation of this incredible healing space. The space is just so relaxing, I was immediately put at ease. Paul is very knowledgeable and shows much compassion. He explained everything thoroughly and made sure I understood the course of treatment and how he could help me. He carefully guided me through my treatment.

Where should I start? Well, let’s just say, like most people, acupuncture is not something I can say I was very familiar with prior to my first visit. To say I was apprehensive walking in that door the first day, would certainly be an understatement. I am in the midst of what I like to call a lifestyle change, thanks to Paul Kerzner. From the moment I sat down in the dimly lit room with the candles and sounds of soothing tunes, I could tell I was in for a relaxing experience. Paul is an incredible listener and has unmatched patience, making the first 20 minutes or so of our appointments very desirable. It’s so nice to find someone who isn’t just waiting for their turn to talk, instead, Paul just wants to hear how you’re doing with your journey, whether it’s pain, stress, or anxiety. The acupuncture treatment itself, along with the different types of cupping, can be a little intimidating if you’re a first timer, but from what I’ve heard from other people’s experiences elsewhere, Paul is VERY gentle and understanding. I have noticed quite a big change in my overall pain (in my hip) and my level of stress. Paul has encouraged me to change my diet to gluten and dairy free, and has provided me with the healthy alternatives to taking medicine and using ice packs to get through my day. I am aware it is a long journey to health and wellness, and I may be closer to the beginning than the end, but I truly believe with the help of Paul I can continue down the path of loving life and living the way I am my best version of me. After suffering from daily headaches and migraines for 10 years, I decided to finally give acupuncture a try. Even just after the first treatment I noticed that my headache had gone away for a few hours. It’s been less than 2 months and I’m already noticing such a change. Thanks to Paul, I’m able to go days without having a headache and that’s something I never thought would be possible. I highly recommend giving Above & Beyond Acupuncture a try if you suffer from headaches. The results are truly amazing.

I’ve been going to Paul at Above & Beyond Acupuncture every Saturday for the past 2 months. Prior to going to Above & Beyond, I had been to numerous doctors to see why I was having stomach issues and to see what they could do to help with it as well as some anxiety and stress related issues. I was a little hesitant with acupuncture, as this was my first time trying it. The experience has exceeded any preconceived expectation I had of what it would be and feel like. While the doctors I saw looked to stop the symptoms, Paul has worked with me to actually cure the underlying issues. I will say I have a holistic bias so I was much more open to the idea of using acupuncture as an alternative than some others might be. Along with the acupuncture, we have also done cupping. I highly recommend if it meets your specific needs and goals (don’t be scared of the bruises).
What to expect:
The first consultation you will go over what issues you have be having and dive into what they may stem from. Paul will listen and give feedback when necessary. After going over these, you’re on the acupuncture table. He will choose the points that are suited for your specific needs. The needles are very thin and you barely feel them. On a pain scale of 1 – 10, I would give them a 0.25 when being inserted and a 0 when you have them in. Once they are in, Paul will shut the lights off and leave the room to allow you to relax. The first time I will admit that it felt a little weird laying there but when it’s all over, you feel light, uplifted, and nostalgic.
After the first session, you are more relaxed about the process and can go into deeper meditative states. At least that’s what I use the silence and time away from the world for.
Each week, Paul will discuss your progress and get an idea of how you feel, what’s working, what’s not, and where to focus on.
All in all, I would say it has been a great experience and it is well worth it.

I suffer from migraine headaches. I usually take Imatrex for them. I recently became pregnant and am unable to take this medication. The last two days of my life have been spent in bed with ice packs on my head trying to relieve the pain.
Finally, I just thought I will try acupuncture since I don’t have many alternatives right now. I’m so very happy that I found this place! Paul is amazing! From the moment you step into this very clean, smelly good, nice calming music place, he makes you feel at home and very comfortable. Even though I was 30 mins early, he took me back right away.
He was very professional and took some time to go over important health issues before he started. I have to admit that I was skeptical about this and it was not like a miracle by any means but I will say that he took my pain level from an 8 – 9 to about a 4 in only an hour. Anyone who has had a migraine will know that this is huge! As the boys passed my pain levels subsided even more!

I flew back into Scottsdale Wednesday evening and had a killer headache. My back and neck were sore from the flight and I just wasn’t feeling well. I contacted Paul as soon as I landed and he told me to come in right away even though it was 7pm. Who else would do that? After my treatment I felt great. Headache was gone. Neck/​shoulder/​back feel amazing.

Paul did a great job ing making me feel very comfortable during my first session of acupuncture. I was very nervous going in there, but from the moment you walk in with soothing sounds it eased my tension. The only regret I have is this was a visit to Scottsdale and Sedona and I can’t go back to «above and beyond». Today I had my 3^rd appointment with Paul and thought I should share my experience.
I’ll begin by saying I’ve been to acupuncturists in the past, 3 exactly, over the course of 15 years. Until this past month I hadn’t been to one since 2008. Soooo, I’ve been suffering from a great deal of back pain for a long time and recently decided I’ve had enough and need to feel better. I began seeing a chiropractor once a week and decided to supplement that with acupuncture (my chiropractor is a HUGE fan too). Anyway, what a tremendous improvement. WOW. I’m rarely impressed, and I’m happy to say, I AM VERY IMPRESSED.
To start, Paul will consult with you to assess the problem/​s. He is a great listener and so easy to open up to and be honest with, there is no judgement in that room. He will then begin the treatment, which for me has been acupuncture followed by cupping for the back pain. He also provided an herbal treatment that I drink 3 times a day and it actually tastes good! Along with that he has given some nutrition advice and reading recommendations.
I truly feel as though he is treating my whole person and not just masking a problem with a temporary solution. I plan to keep him as my acupuncturist for as long as I live in the same state. And if I move, I’ll schedule appointments when I come back for a visit!
Lastly, Paul mentioned his specialty is emotional issues, anxiety, depression, etc… I cannot even explain to you how happy and uplifted I felt after our 2^nd visit. If I didn’t feel it for myself I wouldn’t have believed it was possible. He truly has a gift and I cannot recommend him enough.

I went to see Paul for pregnancy-​related sciatic pain a couple weeks ago after trying several other treatments– chiropractic, stretches, massage, etc. After one acupuncture treatment my pain was completely gone. I am so happy to have relief!
As a practitioner, he is fantastic– very smart and is really passionate about his work. Im looking forward to working with him on general health and well-​being and highly recommend him.

I am not a believer of magical potions or fairy dust or flying carpets… Acupuncture and chiropractors were on that same list for me until last week!
My mother (48)who suffers from a L4-​L5 herniation had an episode of sciatica accompanied by acute muscle spasms. The combination rendered her completely immobile. Prescriptive medication (flexerill, toridol, prednisone) did nothing.
After exhausting every possible option, I remembered that there was a new acupuncturist by where I work. It was a hail marry, but we had nothing to lose. I called Paul at above and beyond mid Monday afternoon, described the situation and requested a house call. His response was music to my ears «sure, I finish at 730 here I can be there by 8».
Upon arrival he was very professional, short meet and greet, and got to work. I noticed the high attention to patient comfort as well as practice of strict sanitation throughout the visit. Needless to say mom slept that night for the first time in 3 days & was walking the next morning. Above all his skill and knowledge, Paul is an easy person to be around. Very real, very calm, & down to earth. If there ever was a person that was perfect for a profession it would be Paul Kerzner for acupuncture.

I was very hesitant about beginning acupuncture treatments, but Paul made it extremely comfortable and enjoyable. His holistic approach has been extremely helpful during my pregnancy and he has helped me focus and really pay attention to the changes going on during this exiting time in my life. I trust Paul completely, and look forward to continue seeing him during and after my pregnancy.

Paul’s passion for healing mind, body and soul are reflected in his space and his treatments. The space is warm, inviting and personal. The treatments are individualized to meet the «needs of the day.» The personalized plan is helpful in creating well being regardless of the situation. It is a well balanced «tune-​up» if there are no specific issues and a well balanced «fix» if there is a specific need. I always experience a sense of «all is well» with each session that continues into the weeks that follow. I highly recommend Above and Beyond because that describes it well.

I had some acupuncture done before, but never went beyond just treating my symptoms. Acupuncture is only part of Paul’s practice, his holistic approach allows for a more inclusive and complete sessions. I’ll definitely be returning for additional sessions.

My interest in esoteric acupuncture led me to Paul’s office. I wanted to balance and deepen my mind, body, spirit connection. My experience thus far has exceeded my expectations. His office is peaceful and inviting. Paul is knowledgeable and gifted in his practice. Every session he does a thorough assessment and allows me to communicate intimately in a secure and safe manner. We discuss and implement Chinese herbs, nutritional support and overall mind/​body health in regards to the treatments. Paul has been incredibly accommodating with scheduling and has easy online booking. I leave feeling awakened, refreshed and supported.

This was my first experience with Acupuncture. I have always been interested, but never found a practitioner that I trusted. Paul is clearly competent and a master of his craft with amazing credentials and none of the nonsense sometimes associated with non-​Western medicine. It was an amazing experience. I highly recommend Paul.
