Harkins Theatres Shea 14

Generally I go to this theater because its close. … actually I’m probably closer to tempe… well.. I wanted to see TMNT2. they took it out… said it was making room for new movies… well they are still showing Money Monster… andv that’s been out for a while.. they do in fact need to up grade.. Also another issue and this for all theaters. … the damn texting! Cant people watch a movie that they PAID for instead of text? Its very distracting and pathetic

I wanted to see the new tmnt movie it’s only been out for going on 3 weeks they no longer showing it and it’s a box office hit and they said they removed it for new movies but they remove a good one and left in box office flops like pop star really and thats not even making its money go figure how places are run so they don’t mind loosing money prob won’t be back to these theater

Moms could have cared less about inconveniencing people.

My husband and I watched an Indie movie here on Saturday, April 2^nd in the evening. We have not been to this location before. The movie theater is in an outdoors mall with restaurants and a coffee house. The shopping center is extremely busy and the parking is tight. We did eventually find a parking place after someone left.
The theater is nice, the employees helpful and nice. There was a nice young man at the concessions counter who waited on us. He was informative on the various sizes of popcorn and drinks. He is good at up-​selling as we went ahead and bought a larger soda for an additional .50 cents.
The theater is clean, the individual movie theaters are clean, the seats are comfortable, and cozy. Also of note: the restroom facilities are clean.
We enjoyed watching the movie and experiencing another Harkins we have not been to previously. I have to say that overall, the Harkins movie theaters are very nice and clean with helpful employees and the movie prices, concessions, etc., are within reason.
We will return to this theater sometime in the near future.

Went here to see Hateful Eight in 70 mm. Staff was friendly throughout. Glad I got to see what all be considered a historic version of this movie.
However…
No online seat reservations like Regal and others. First come, first serve. This was our first instance of «1980 called, and they want their theater back.»
The larger problem was the seats themselves. They look and feel like they’re from the 80s. Either you, or the complete stranger sitting next to you, can use the armrest, while the other one who didn’t get the armrest can just squish yourself into your crappy 1980s theater chair. Also, the soda they sell doesn’t really fit the cup holders. You set it in and it leans like it’s going to fall out.
Watching a movie here is like flying coach on a packed airplane for 2 or 3 hours, only worse and more cramped.
Our normal theater is a Regal in Gilbert. They have modern seating that can be reserved online (specific seats, not just a pair of tickets). Power seats, plenty of arm space between seats, usable cup holders, etc.
Harkins sells itself as being a «premier» theater. Nothing could be further from the truth. At least not at this location, and I’m not going to waste my time or money trying other locations. Regal and AMC have my business.
Oh, did I mention how TERRIBLE and cramped the seats are at this theater? Watching a movie here really is like going decades back in time.
What a crap-​ass experience.

Movie theaters are a business that I feel you can judge based on its patronage. Busy, bustling movie theater: must be pretty popular for some reason. Empty, stagnant movie theater: must be struggling for some reason.
The first thing I noticed about Harkins Shea is, it was hopping! The parking lot was full almost to capacity. There was no wait to buy tickets at the box office, however, and we purchased ours for The Heart of the Sea, a movie which had only come out a few weeks ago, but somehow had slipped off the planet due to the opening of Star Wars. We were warned that the theater was «85% full» and that we may have problems finding 3 seats together; but, if that was the case, we could come back out for a full refund.
Inside, the theater was busier than you can imagine. My brother sacrificed himself to the concessions line (which, in all fairness, moved pretty quickly), while my mom and I found seats. Employees were everywhere: cleaning bathrooms, sweeping floors, greeting guests, and even checking in on the theaters themselves during the movie. We were able to get three seats together, although they were in the second row of an otherwise very small theater.
Although the sight lines may be rather cramped compared to other, larger theaters, I felt that I had no issues watching or listening to the movie. All patrons were very respectful, no loud rustling, talking, or cell phones to be mentioned. The buttered popcorn from concessions was easily the best I’ve ever had. Super buttery and rich without seeming greasy. Yum! My family and I really enjoyed the Harkins experience at this location, and I think it made a convert of my brother, who lives nearby. I have a feeling this will be his new go-​to location.
Harkins Shea has exceptional staffing, terrific employee-​customer interaction, and excels in cleanliness. For everyday movie watching, you won’t see better than this.

I like this theater. When I want to go see a latest popular movie, I go to the other one with Cine-​Capri but when I want to see independent or foreign films, I come here.
They tend to be the only one around here playing those movies. I’ve seen some of the great movies here and read subtitles or good independent movie or documentary.
As this place is not as big, they tend to attract different type of clients and I never had any issues with loud or cell phone use customers.
It may be a bit outdated but they maintain this place pretty clean. Same deal for popcorn and soda. (Always bring my cup and t-​shirts). Staff is always friendly.

Hair in popcorn. Not once but twice… Wrong soda on first visit. No one should have to leave a movie to go complain to management. That’s only adding insult to injury. I don’t mind the small theater’s but tall folks heads can get in the way on the rare occasion.

It was my first time at this particular Harkins Theater. I must say it was nice and clean.
The popcorn had an alluring aroma that made me get an extra large bag. It was delicious! At the stand there were an assortment of popcorn condiments like cheddar cheese, jalapeños, hot sauce and parmesan cheese. OMG it was good.
I can make this a once a month experience!

Here we refer back to the old adage «if you charge a premium for something, deliver the same value as you charge». Why does places think that since your in «Scottsdale» you can just throw something together and it will work?
Old theater with seats that literally if your short (like my significant other) you have a hard time seeing over someone. Like other reviews mention– no stadium style seating. And… don’t expect the nice large screens like Studio or IPic. Nope, and in a few years they might be in danger of having LCD’s at Costco rival Harkins for screen size :)
So Harkins people, invest in your business and bring it up to standard. What might make this happen since there is obviously unhappy customers out there is people start going to other theaters. Take your dollars and spend them where a business puts in effort, modernizes and gives value for what they are charging.
Or…offer ½ off what normal theaters charge

Worst theatre I’ve ever visited. The first thing we noticed when we walked past the concessions was the smell of latrines. It was horrible and poorly masked by cleaning solution. Ugh! Then, inside our theatre, the smell became more of a dirty dish rag smell. Everything felt dirty, I was itchy and wished I hadn’t had to sit on the seats. Double ugh!!!
The employees were very kind and film quality was good.
Hopefully they just had a rough day.

I went yesterday night for the movie at 10.20pm and I discovered something new, subtitles! It’s something that you ask when you take your ticket and they give you like a «arm» with a screen and it’s connect by wiffi. This doesn’t exist where I’m coming from. I think it’s an amazing idea!

Small screens, big time price.
If you are going to spend full price go to another theater where you can watch it on the big screen.

Eh, this place is a pretty standard movie theater, with one annoying exception: it’s impossible to get a seat in the middle. The setup is a center aisle with seating to the left and right, meaning you’re off-​center no matter what. I get that this probably just my own weirdness and desire to be toward the center, but that really turned me off to the theater. The place is smaller than most others I’ve been to, meaning a slightly higher risk of selling out your desired showing.
On the positive side, the location is great, near lots of wonderful restaurants. It doesn’t feel old and the attendants were fairly standard for a movie theater (16 and texting until you walk up for service). It’s okay — I’ll stick to the theaters closer to fashion square unless I’m looking to meet some friends up this direction. At least Il Bosco pizza is close, I guess…

We gave up on ever going to any Harkins Theatre due to their very old 20^th century web presence. Most of the time the website is down. When it isn’t, they aren’t modern enough to sell tickets on their own site, so they send you to a third party site that reams you.
Dan Harkins needs to retire and let the kids bring this company into the 21^st century if they hope to survive.

As far as movie theaters go, Shea 14 is still living in the 90s. And since I used to spend a lot of time at Shea 14 in the 90s, it only seems fitting. Here is the breakdown…
pro — they show some indie films so it’s a good alternative to camelview
con — no stadium seating
pro — central location with some good restaurant choices next door

Not my favorite Harkins Theatres but close to the house and often falls into times that suit our schedule.
Good upkeep of the theatre, clean and always good service.
Don’t know if they have a single large auditorium but always has first run shows plus we are always trying to keep the cost of movies to a minimum and Harkins helps with the popcorn and refill cups.
The plus about this theatre is there are a lot of nice places to eat around the general vicinity that is very affordable.
Sometimes parking gets very limited with the dining places there and you may have to park further than you want to.
Will come back to this theatre again but prefer the North Scottsdale 101 and Bell 34^th St theatres a little more.

We came here yesterday to see the 3:10 pm showing of Django Unchained. Well that was our intention, but it didn’t turn out so well…
I used Movie Flixster to find the movie theatre and times. I was let down when Harkins decided not to tell Flixster of the change to another location. No matter, we instead saw that great movie series: Die Hard. Is it III, or IV? LOL Anyway it’s called «A Good Day to Die Hard». Sorry, it’s number five if you are playing along at home.
It’s about… Sorry! If you really want to be kept on the edge of your seats and do not want to know some key plot lines: Read no further! You hear that Anthony M! LOL. I was taken to task because I wrote a Tip that said ‘if you had seen one Die Hard movie, you’ve seen them all’. Apparently I gave away too much of the plot. LOL
The «Short Take»? It’s about (Bruce Willis) NYPD Det. John McClane going to Moscow to help his estrange son (Jai Courtney), who killed a Russian bad guy. Hint, hint; the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. A major surprise, huh?
And, as they say in Hollywood, mayhem ensued. Or, in this case the destroying of over 150 cars by a Russian Army heavy armored transport. One movie patron actually laughed very loudly throughout the movie. I just chuckled here and there. It was a good flick.
In Unilocal-​ese, yes I’ve seen better (Two Stars). But, it was fun. So three Unilocal thumbs up for Bruce and the gang for a better than average plot. Was that really Moscow, because it looked like Prague?
And, only three Unilocal Stars for Harkins for the mess up!!! Though the theatre is very clean and normally a very nice place to see a movie. So, Three and a Half Stars to Harkins. The dinner afterwards was much nicer at nearby Pita Jungle. We even made it for Happy Hour.

Saw a pre-​screening of «Here Comes the Boom» tonight, and I had a great time! The movie was hilarious, with cool MMA scenes (a few were too violent for me to bear), and the cast, especially Kevin James, Henry Winkler (!), and Bas Rutten surprised me with their comedic energy. Selma Hayek was good, too. But of course, this review should be about Harkins Shea 14, and what can I say, but the picture and sound were very good. While my preferred spot is somewhere in the middle and not too close, I knew it would be improbable tonight, since I’d arrived later than I had planned (passes were for 7p viewing, and it’s recommended to show up as early as 6p to secure seats). It didn’t look like I’d make the cut, but at the last second, ten more were allowed in– yay!
It was my first visit, the movie was in a smaller viewing room, and I wasn’t able to check out the state of the women’s restroom, but I’d come back to check out other movies in the future. It was a bit chilly inside towards the end, so I recommend you bring a sweater if you’re prone to feeling cold indoors.
