Legend at Kierland Apartments

I lived at the Legend for 13 months from July 2014 to August 2015 and loved my stay. The office staff were always friendly, efficient and willing to help. Maintenance staff were always friendly and fast as well. The property is well maintained and the pools were kept clean.
The only thing that I wish the apartment community had was newer and more efficient appliances. I did rent an un-​renovated apartment and knew that it wasn’t going to be as up to date however even their renovated apartments have the old appliances for the most part as well. My complaints in that area have nothing to do with the staff but only the management company for making that poor decision. Hopefully they are renovating with newer appliances now :)
As far as the noise complaints that people may have… All I can say is you do live in an apartment. Not everyone may be as quiet or as soft footed as you would like. I, from time to time would hear the kids upstairs running around and the music being played from another neighbor but that’s what comes with being part of a community. Make friends with you neighbors so that you can work things out if there are any problems.

I have owned apartment complexes and have been in real estate for around a decade now. I tell you this because I know the in’s and out’s of not only owning, but managing property. I chose to rent so i didn’t get locked into anything not knowing where i would be in a year. Legends at Kierland, for some reason, gets a bad wrap. Here’s my take and feel free to read my other reviews because I am brutally honest.
GROUNDS/​Apartments: They are maintained incredibly. The apartments are very nice and patios are a great size.
RENT: Very reasonable. I have around a 1250 sf place and it is costing me under a buck per square foot.
GENERAL: It is a quite community and very pet friendly. They have 2 amazing pools and too many tennis courts to count. The waterfalls and upkeep of the buildings make it a very beautiful and comfortable place to live. I do wish they had more events like happy hours etc., but they are working on it!
LOCATION: you really can’t ask for more. It is in the epicenter of Scottsdale life. Everything is 5 minutes driving or 15 minutes walking… people it’s Arizona, you can walk 330 days a year. The quarter is kiddie corner and kierland is across the street. There are dive bars, nice clubs, amazing food and virtually anything you can ask for socially and professionally.
***STAFF***: With total transparency in this review, I enjoyed the old staff. They were friendly and nice. The new staff is fantastic. Plain and simple. I talked to the PM Tracy and she is always sweet, friendly, and caring. She pays attention to my issues and gets the details correct, makes time for the tenants, and has an aura about her that exudes responsibility with friendliness. Heather is a doll, she is always sweet and whenever I or another tenant needs anything she’s on top of it. She loves to joke and is a great staff member to have there if I needed anything. Michelle is a ball of energy. Always asking about my puppy and prompt at taking request and getting the job done in a professional yet timely fashion. The maintenance staff is 100% reliable and hard working. They always say hello and if i have a request they are on top of it; even for something as simple as changing a light bulb. In my case it was learning how to open the hatch for my fireplace!
SUMMARY: if you’re looking for somewhere to live that gives you peace and serenity then i would go to the office and speak with the staff and get your application in. The community is very diverse and i meet people everyday. It’s the «Cheers» of apartment complexes, everybody knows your name.

The management is not only incompetent, they’re also condescending and not friendly. Numerous issues, but the worst with water, including two complete shutdowns in the last month, leaving residents without this utility for over 8 hours. Mgmt response: Deal with it, we’re not compensating anyone. Many, including myself, had to get a hotel to get ready for work. Their response was that any hotels weren’t pre-​authorized, therefor they aren’t paying for anything.
The community itself is nice and quiet, but the property management is a complete fail.

The water has been off almost all day today (appx 11am-​current 8:15pm & still going) because of some water main issues. I’m so over these cheap owners (maybe if you actually put a bit of money into your investment properties crap like this wouldn’t happen. Property is an outdated, inefficient POS) and Lincoln management– both groups are among the worst I’ve come across. Don’t waste your time

It is a shame that such a beautiful and usually very quiet apartment complex is ruined by the people who manage it. I lived there for over two years. Any time we had to go to the office for any reason, whether it was to pick up a package or renew a lease, something would go terribly wrong. The entire staff was different every 6 months and no one ever worked there long enough to become competent at their job. «Managers» were always rude, unhelpful, and gone after a very short time. The worst part was that when I moved out, I was denied a request to be present for the final walk through inspection. I was later billed to replace the carpet. They claimed it couldn’t be cleaned and had to be replaced at my expense. I requested to see photos taken and in viewing them was absolutely stunned that they were bold enough to claim that the carpet couldn’t be cleaned. Do not rent here unless you want to be continually frustrated and taken advantage of when you end your stay with them.

I moved into this complex in January of 2014, my wife and I moved out in September of 2015. I actually enjoyed this community. The pool was nice, the BBQ’s, lounge, and gym were all nice. We didn’t have any loud neighbors, and even asked our neighbors if they could hear our baby crying when we brought him home (I think they could hear him, but were being nice!). So the living spaces were great. Now, the managment team… where do I begin… It always seemed that no matter who you spoke with on the front office they either didn’t have a clear answer, had to ask someone else, or would just blow you off. They always seemed bothered unless you were renewing a lease. We let them know well in advance that we were planning on moving out, and as the time came closer everything was great. We cleaned the apartment as normal. We then recieved a bill for the carpet. Which seemed expensive, yet were told we could dispute the charges, but lawers and all of that would need to become involved.
My wife proceeds to let them know that there is regular wear ant tear and asked to see photos of the damaged carpet. Some rude male employee pointed to a indentation in the carpet and also refrenced a non existant oil stain. My wife was shocked at this… so be prepaired to pay for the carpet to be replaced after you leave.

It was easy to cross this one off the list! While apartment hunting in the area last weekend, my boyfriend and I decided to stop in the leasing office at the Legend. According to their website, there were several two-​bedroom units available, most around the $ 1200 — $ 1300 range. Pretty reasonable pricing, considering the area. Well, it appears there is no connection between what is listed online and what is actually for rent, or at least the office staff does not have access to the same information that is on the website.
In addition to the disconnect regarding available units, the blonde girl who «assisted» us was beyond rude with a snotty attitude and a major chip on her shoulder. I don’t know her name as she never introduced herself. She acted as if we were imposing on her Saturday afternoon activities by stopping by during business hours. She pulled out her leasing information binder, hastily flipped through the pages, then proceeded to tell us there were only 2 two-​bedroom units available, both priced at more than $ 1500 a month. Since our moving date isn’t until October, I asked if there was anything else with upcoming availability. Nope. I guess that, with this particular apartment complex, they don’t have access to that kind of information, nor would it be an option to hold a unit for any amount of time until your desired move-​in date.

So without even showing us floor plans, let alone offering to show us a model unit, we were then provided a list of move-​in expenses. Among the list of expenses? A $ 200 Admin Fee and a $ 50 Gate Fee. When I asked what the Admin Fee was for, she replied, «It’s just a fee we charge. Everyone has to pay it.» Um, okay, I get that there are fees in this world but usually they are associated with something specific. I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay a fee just for the sake of paying a fee. «And the gate fee, is that something that is refundable upon moving out, provided you turn in your remote?» «No, that’s a fee that is charged to keep the gate in working order.» Really? I mean, $ 50 is $ 50, it’s not going to break the bank, but maintenance is usually something that is included in the price of renting an apartment. That’s one of the reasons people RENT apartments. I wouldn’t be surprised if this place charges for landscaping, too.
With every question I asked, (they were all normal, inquiring-​about-​a-​place-​to rent-​questions), the girl’s attitude became increasingly hostile and rude. Like, as a customer, I don’t think I’ve ever dealt with someone who was so rude to my face. Her face scrunched up and her tone became high pitched like she was mocking me — almost as if she was impersonating our conversation behind my back, after it had passed.
She then proceeded to tell me about how the property is managed by Lincoln, a company that prides itself on customer service. It reminded me of a child’s conversation as I expected her to follow it up with, «Just kidding! It’s opposite day!» If this is how prospective tenants are treated, I can’t imagine what she is like to deal with on a somewhat regular basis, as an actual tenant. If customer service is really something that Lincoln prides itself on, someone needs to take a look at the office staff and their professionalism.
On a side note, the leasing office décor is dingy, ugly, outdated, and mismatched. There were also loose cords hanging in all sorts of places. Pair this with nasty staff and it certainly doesn’t make for a good first impression.

Wow, I have to say that I don’t agree with any of the negative reviews on here. My bf and I lived in a 1-​bed at legend from March 2014 to April 2015, and I honestly can’t say that we had one bad experience. The complex is a bit older, but we had an upgraded unit and never had any issues with hearing neighbors at all. Never even a TV! The parking lot is HUGE and there are plenty of extra spots (especially compared to most N Scottsdale apts). We did have a few maintenance issues but they always came and fixed within 48 hours. And what’s this about $ 500 AC Bills?! That is ludicrous… I kept the apt at a chilly 69 degrees and we never paid more than $ 160, so I’m not sure what that’s about. All the tenants are very nice, but the complex is very quiet, not at all a social scene, so if you’re young (mid 20s) and looking to meet people, look at Ninety Degrees or elsewhere in south Scottsdale. All in all, we had a great experience at Legend and I was sad to leave.

Horrible customer service. Had an appointment to look at vacant unit but when arrived they had no idea what was going on. The receptionist was rude and ignorant. Stay away from this place.

These apartments are horrible, the only reason I gave 1 star is because of the location. I don’t actually live here but my fiancé does and I am here often.
First of all, the walls are paper thin and I can hear the neighbors conversations, closet door open, and television. If you’re a light sleeper then this is not the place for you.
The parking is so bad and limited, I always have to park and walk a very far distance to the apartment.
The maintenance department or management is very unprofessional and doesn’t seem to care about their residents. We reported a major crack and countertop lifting issue 6 months ago and they still haven’t fixed it or asked about it. The garbage disposal has been broken for months and they don’t seem to care either. It takes several attempts to get them to come and fix anything so we don’t even bother.
The apartments are old and have cheap fixtures and flooring. I know that this is an upgrade but for a north Scottsdale apartment complex and the amount that is paid here is unacceptable.
I am so glad that we bought a house and I don’t have to come to this apartment ever again.

I moved here in May 2014 and Iv had nothing but good experiences with this apartment complex!
My apartment was spotless when I moved in, no funky weird odors or dirt. It’s quiet, safe. They maintain the property very well. Iv read reviews about the staff being rude and when I 1^st moved in the office people weren’t the most warming but I moved here to live in a nice place not to be friends with the office staff BUT every time I’ve called for maintenance issue, or sometimes I forget what my rent is, they have been very nice over the phone or even when I drop my check off. The maintenance guys are really awesome and friendly here! I enjoy seeing them around.
My ac bill in the summer was very normal btw. It was about 130/​month with my ac at 85 during the day and 72 at night. When I was home my ac was never over 80. Also I NEVER hear my neighbors. Sometimes I even wonder if people live in my building. I guess I know they do because I see door mats and people coming and going but never hear anyone.
If your thinking about renting here do it!!!

I’ve lived at the Legend @ Kierland for the past year and a half and it’s been a wonderful experience. Every time I’ve ever needed a repair it’s been taken care of within 24 – 48 hours. Every time I’ve needed my carpet cleaned they have taken care of it for me at no charge. Additionally, the grounds are impeccable, the pools are always clean, the fitness center is also always clean and the staff has always been extremely nice and supportive to me. The Legend and the sister property the Tradition are ideally located near Kierland Commons and near to the Scottsdale Quarter. I completely recommend the Legend @ Kierland for anyone to live at.

Renters BEWARE — approx. $ 500 monthly AC bills for a 1 bedroom apt. Now living in a 4 bedroom house (for 1.5 years) and my AC bills are less than at the Legend. I made numerous calls and received countless maintenance visits during my 2 years of living at the Legend, but they never fixed my AC unit.
After I finally decided to move they replaced the unit. I asked for a partial refund for these extremely high APS bills, so they brought it to their board.
This was quickly rejected. They obviously care more about adding more to their bottom line than they care about their residents. I strongly recommend avoiding this complex.

I lived at this apartment for approx. 7 months before moving out. The area is nice, the neighbors were quiet and nice, their biggest downfall is their management. Dale was the one that helped me and he was just terrible. I expected that this place being one of the most expensive was going to have high quality maintenance. I was unpleasantly surprised to find the exact opposite. They cut corners and don’t finish jobs. When I moved out their was mold on multiple places on the carpet (from 2 different floods by the washer) that they did not thoroughly take care of the issue. After the flood they said they would check back a couple weeks later and then two months after, none of those inspections were done and again had multiple spots of mold throughout the apartment. I would watch out for these things and DO NOT DEAL WITH DALE he is a terrible businessman … Oh yeah one more story (if I typed them all out if would be paragraphs of bad stories) I did my final inspection and the gentlemen that did the inspection with me said everything looked good … Two weeks later I got a letter in the mail stating over 400 in charges. This place will RIP YOU OFF WHEN YOU MOVE OUT.

Legend at Kierland Apartments look good at first sight. Now, that we’ve been living here for 2 months, things are not so good anymore. During these 8 weeks, the shower in the master bathroom has not been working or only working sporadically. We’ve had maintance people over 5 times, but no success. Other things have broken as well and it usually takes 2 or 3 attempts to fix them (broken door, towel rods falling off the walls, dryer not working, equipment in the fitness room not working). We are not going to stay here much longer, so I can make do with one bathroom instead of two. However, I’m not OK with paying for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment and in fact getting only a 2 BR 1 bath apartment. The place was advertised as a 2 BR, 2 bath and NOT a 2 BR, 1 bath, 1 bath not working plus company of maintence guys pretty much every week. When I asked for a small rent reduction, the answer by the very robotic manager was «no, they won’t go for that.» I asked him who «they» are and he said, «the owners». I answered I’d like to contact them as they are obviously the ones making the decisions, but he said «they cannot be contacted». Excuse me? But they can cash a check, that’s for sure.

Love living here… Great staff and grounds!!!
