The Sycamore at Scottsdale /Sycamore Creek

This place is TERRIBLY managed. The front office has been under construction for almost two years now with little progress, the customer service is terrible. None of my issues are resolved in a timely fashion.
My auto withdrawal for rent was removed by the apartment, I then received an eviction notice, then wasn’t able to finalize my application to move to another apartment until The Sycamore approved it, but due to their errors they made this process a nightmare.
DO NOT MOVE HERE!

i moved in here almost 4 yrs ago, its a great location BUT, forget getting any maint help, i have no water in my kitchen for 2 months now, they change employes pretty much weekly so maint orders dont get in, my window was broken it took a week to get it replaced, im ont e 4^th refrigertor its finally decent, and i say decent ONLY, the last work order i put in dorectly to the Mgr James, hes th 5^th mgr here and the absolute worst. i put the order in to HIM a month ago, nothing, palced it again 3 weeks ago, nothing, in any case the maint arent capable of repairing anythign anyway when this current corp took over tehy started overcharging me 40 dolkars per mo. btw these r very very old apts, mine was never painted before i moved in, the carpets are rippled, and comng up aftre a cpl of mo, last yr they promised to wash them, still waiting, just because its located on Scottsdale this si NOT luxury living, tomorow i contact the coorp, they hae built 2 public places withour ramp access this is illegal ive already called the ADA., they sorely need a new mgr and emplyess that stay each time i pay myrent its someoen different, last yr they had grreat mgrs, yet still the worst maint ive evr seen, expect if they do show up they will not know how to fix it, and leave greasy handprints, and flooding water„ ive had 4 leaks in this appt rom rain and upper lvels, theru fix is still flaking, they raise the renst a MIN of 10 percen each yr or more evn to those on low income. my neighbor who ahs to pay on the 3^rd when he gets hsi check, and they have an agreement about ti, is charged a later fee each and every time, if this is how a building is run, they wotn keep the longterm tenants, in factt my apt is dingy, dirty and a dump, they might think they r going tog et downtown Scottsdale rates, but this isnt downtown, and the apts r NOT luxury apts at all

Like the review before me I am required to rate this place from 1 to 5 stars. It has earned zero stars.
I got a puppy and was harassed by the front office for doing things that they told me to do about clean up. It was due to my location on the premises that I was harassed more than others who had front of their apartment in terrible condition with trash and other furniture all over. Basically the treatment is not universally fair. They didn’t have the decency to tell me I had something wrong they just took 2 weeks to write a warning and they didn’t have any proof of the allegations they just assumed.
The office personnel is always switching and while they last as long as a roll of toilet paper in a full house they will always hold up the same consistent incompetent behavior as their predecessors.
There are a lot of maintenance issues at this place and the maintenance crew just does the minimum to cover it up. One of the doors wouldn’t shut smoothly. So the crew just whacked the door frame till it would. The bathroom had mold that they just painted over. The list is endless.
They delivered the move out paper a few days prior to their mandatory 60 day notice of leaving. I was out of town and when I returned I turned that in ASAP! The lady in the front confirmed that it would be the end of the month in October (technically 58 days). Roommates all signed this. I even called them a couple weeks later to confirm this and my roommate even witnessed the call (speakerphone). I go in to turn in the keys and the manager switched the day to a few days into November and never bothered to notify us. They claimed they did but they didn’t. The management and office personnel is despicable and corrupt.
Move somewhere else, pay more if you have to avoid this place. Save yourself the hassle and stress.

They tried to up the rent by a few hundred dollars when renewals came around and if by month to month it would have gone up over $ 400!
When I moved in they raved about their new club house which was in the process. A year later and it’s still in progress.

I’m updating my review after 10 months of living here. We are still satisfied with our apartment itself, maintenance requests, and the office employees.
I’m so sick of the leasing office that’s been «under construction» since we’ve moved in. They’ve made little to no progress in the 10 months we lived here. The building is different colors, there are construction fences up and dumpsters all around it. It just looks really bad. We haven’t been able to use the pool next to it all summer either because it’s closed in with the other «construction».
When we moved in, there was an empty lot in front of this complex… today there is an entire luxury condo complex. An entire complex was built before our leasing office was renovated…
Not to mention, when they put in the complex next door, they tore out the bushes lining the entrance and put up a wall. (This was at least a month ago) There is still trash, wires and junk lining the wall at the entrance of this complex. This also looks terrible.
I wish they would just finish the stuff they are working on because it looks really junky around here now.

DO NT MOVE HERE!!! They will take forever or never even attend to your maintenance needs! I’ve had a busted storage door since the day I moved in 10 months ago, have placed 4 work orders, have been told 4 times it will be done, and still has NOT been done.
They enticed us 10 months ago with a BRAND NEW clubhouse that STILL to this day, is not nearly close to being finished!!!
DONT MOVE IN!!!
Oh yeah… and our AC unit smells like complete shit all the time. They tried to tell me it’s because the air filter has to be replaced once a month. BULLSHT!!! GET US A NEW AC UNIT

The office employees never pick up the phone. Ever. You literally have to take time out of your day to drive into their horribly fake set up of an office and wait until they greet you.
When hand delivering our move out notice the guy insulted my room mate and I because in one of our comments our complaint was everything in the apartment was old and outdated from the 80’s and that is why nothing worked properly. And thus, why we were unhappy along with a plethora of other complaints against the property. He simply asked if we had even been alive that long. Sycamore’s customer service is horrendous.
Our ac unit stopped working, ants that would come in from outside because the original contractors did not insulate or caulk correctly, telephone jacks had been painted over and filled with goo, the tub was old and moldy, they never cleaned it.
Don’t live here. Pay extra to not live somewhere that will rip you off.

I moved in a couple months ago and i love the place. i moved into a 2^nd floor apt which was renovated just prior to moving in. The leasing agent, Rachael, I dealt with made everything extremely smooth. The apt itself is very large and spacious with a good sized balcony to hang out on with multiple people. The maintenance crew is quick to respond and fix any issues I have had. It’s a great price for the location, which you are minutes from Old Town, and the size of the apt. It’s in a safe neighborhood. The apartment community itself is great. Landscaping is always well kept and clean. I would def recommend living here to anyone.

Let me start by saying this place is a complete joke, whether it starts with the «luxury living» while housing section 8 guest or just having rude employees. The fake wood floors is a nice touch if you are looking for cheap. One Of the things I love the most is the 37 kids from section 8 screaming their heads off. Everything is old and cheap, one of the employees explained to us that the place was old and that’s why it is the way it is… Oh okay I didn’t know that was an excuse for having not so hot water, dips in the floors, blinds made of tissue paper, AC’s that could barely cool a smart car, water that smells like sulfur, and phone jacks that have been painted over… Like really? Did you have sloth from the goonies build these?
Honestly I get creeped out at night to take the trash out… You feel like you are going to get jumped by a velociraptor or just plain see someone going number 2 in the grass? I also love the vomit in the rocks from old town guest, that’s a nice touch.

Don’t believe the other reviews. This place is just fine. Its not Beverly Hills but its also not the ghetto. Just a nice, reasonably priced place to live. Spacious apartments in a safe part of town

This was my first place after college and I don’t have many complaints. The apartment had been newly renovated when I moved in, which ascetically looked nice but some of the drawers, light switches and doors were poorly installed. Maintenance was very responsive if it was an emergency, however, when my kitchen lights went out or my back door wouldn’t lock it took a few days to resolve the issue. During the day the complex is fairly active with kids running around and at night noise is kept to a minimum (as much as an apartment can be). The front desk is helpful and available but they could work on their friendliness.
All in all, its a great location ($ 10 cab ride to old town; multiple freeways nearby) for a fair price.

If you are looking for a place to live in Old Town, this is NOT it. This place claims to be going through major renovations to make everything a lot nicer. Well, don’t be fooled, this place is basically an old crappy car with a nice paint job. They put in some new cabinet doors but kept the old disgusting cabinets, painted over the walls but kept the awful popcorn ceiling. Currently, they are also still leasing to section– 8 residents, meaning most of the people who reside there are a bit trashy. The management is terrible, rude and very uninformative. The dumpsters are always over flowing with garbage and there are constantly people driving by and rummaging through your garbage, it is awful. Not the mention, the building has had bed bugs and rather than treating surrounding units and the complex, they only treated one unit, hoping the problem would disappear. I would not recommend living here, the newer renovated units are decently priced but please keep in mind that you are sharing a complex with people who pay dirt cheap for the older disgusting units. DO NOT live here, you do not get what you pay for.

My tenancy at Sycamore at Scottsdale has not been long but has been quite disappointing. In 6 years of renting apartments in the Phoenix Metropolitan area, my tenancy at this complex has by far been the most dissatisfying.
I moved into a 1 BR apartment late Oct of 2013 and experienced issues with the unit from day one. The unit I moved into was promoted as an upgraded unit with brand new appliances, countertops and cabinetry. Unfortunately those promotable items ended up being the only pieces of the unit functional or satisfying. The rest of apartment seemed to have significant issues that were either overlooked or quickly patched during re-​construction to sell the unit. Within the first couple of weeks I noticed a number of issues with the apartment and relayed those concerns to management.
Some of the issues included a washer/​dryer stackable unit that only released hot water and that did not dryer most likely as a result of being overused and outdated, a toilet that run water for nearly one minute after flushing and dispels a foul odor akin to mold regardless of how often it is clean, a ceiling fan in the living room that shakes dangerously when turned on, and a floor that vibrates uncontrollably for extended periods of time throughout the day. These concerns are matters that should have been taken care of prior to moving a tenant into the unit but nonetheless they were brought to management’s attention. Initially the matters seemed to priority of the management but soon I learned that my expressed concerns were of little importance to management and my satisfaction as a tenant was irrelevant.
I spoke to management a total of three (3) times and still have yet to see a resolution to any of the matters. Each time maintenance comes to the unit they claim to address issue yet nothing has been fixed or even modified and management has not shown much concern to the matter. The toilet still had the same issue due to an inaccurate analysis by maintenance, the washer/​dryer still had not been serviced properly and the floor still vibrates noticeably throughout the day. The head of maintenance even came to the unit and promised to resolve all the issues but that was over a month ago and nothing has been fixed.
As a result of this lack of care, concern and professionalism regarding the issues in the unit I have requested to vacate the unit early. Instead of addressing the issues and adjusting their approach to keep me as a satisfied tenant management chooses to contest me on what fees I should pay as a result of my lease termination. The property management wants me to pay a fee to break the lease even though it comes as a response and a result of their lack of care and professionalism. A lack of care for quality by overlooking or patching maintenance concerns in order to sell quickly. And lack of professionalism by not promptly resolving those concerns yet lying about doing so. I have attempted to collaborate with management to vacate amicably since the maintenance concerns are of little importance to them but instead they choose to lobby for me to pay for their lack of attentiveness and professionalism.
I am even being asked to pay an extra nine (9) days worth of rent after my letter to vacate indicated and management agreed upon. Management further attempted to overcharge me for December’s rent for an overdue charge that they still cannot explain or validate its origin. If matters had been addressed prior to me moving in the unit or even promptly once brought to their attention I would have been much happier with my experience in the complex and would not been forced to move on. However the management seems to be only concerned with selling units not providing potential tenants with homes up to standard quality of living.
Overall I would say my tenancy at Sycamore at Scottsdale has been abysmal. The management of the complex seemed to be satisfied with over selling and under delivering; my business only seemed to be valued to sell a unit. This has been the worst experience in my rental history and would not recommend this complex to anyone any time in the future.
