Specialties
We start with a Berks’ All Beef Wiener. Sliced in half, but not all the way through, and grilled to perfection. Every action is performed in front of the customer, the way its always been. Then we serve it on a steamed National Bakery Roll (a local favorite). Add our Düsseldorf mustard and fresh diced onions (diced by our 1928 Model Hobart Chopper), the wiener is then topped with our famous homemade Chili Sauce. Mmmm. good!
History
Established in 1923.
Back before the World War 1 broke out, our grandfather Steve Karampilas arrived in New York City from Greece. He learn his trade while there and developed his own style and taste. When he came to Scranton he tried several small businesses before finally getting a foothold at 100 Cedar Avenue. From 1923 till 1972, the year of his death, he never missed a day. He fed generations with his wieners and hamburgers. Always wearing a button down shirt, with his tie and smoking a House of Windsor cigar. He kept the menu simple and the people loved it. Now in our 89th year, the tradition goes on!
Meet the Business Owner
Pete V.
Business Owner
Born and raised in Scranton, Pete and Bob Ventura combine eighty years in the Texas wiener business. Both started out as bus boys, then waiters and finally cooks under the watchful eyes of their father and grandfather.
Pete became the grill man. In 2004 he sliced his 4 millionth bun, earning the title ‘Bun King’! His soups, rice pudding and Chili-con-carne are local favorites.
Bob, a master chili sauce and hamburger maker, uses the same spices, the same spice company and the same ingredients as our forefathers. Bob’s sauce has been enjoyed by our customers for over four decades. His meatball style hamburger patties, made from lean Schiff’s ground round, are legendary. No fast food burgers here, after Bob deep fries them, he marinates them in a special chili sauce before they are served. The taste is unbeatable!
Pete puts it all together at the grill, (while talking baseball) putting on a show as he lines wieners on his arm and adds the toppings! They’re a team that can’t be beat!
