Established in 1974.
This family owned/operated business was opened up by Artie Brooks Sr in Sept. 1974. Artie had grown up in the car business, as his father owned a Lincoln Mercury Dealership in Shenadoah, PA. After serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Saratoga, Artie married his wife Theresa in 1969, and moved to Scranton. He originally sold cars for Pioneer Lincoln Mercury, and then moved onto Koerner Ford. During this time, Artie saved up his seed money, and purchased this store at 1501 Cedar Ave. in Sept. 1974. The first few years were very rough, as is normally the case with start up businesses. But, Theresa worked nights as a nurse, and he borrowed some money from family members to keep things going. Finally, the store began to turn a profit, and 38 years later, he still works here 6 days per week. After his son, Artie and Jacki graduated from Penn State University, they joined the family business. If you visit the store, you’ll most likely be greeted by Artie Jr. or Jacki.
