Each Scranton Running Company customer benefits from a personalized approach; we all have unique needs, goals, backgrounds and injury histories. Every new shoe purchase should start with our shoe fitting process, which entails a videotaped walk or run on the treadmill to identify your specific gait and pronation characterisitics. Then we’ll work together to select for you the most appropriate and comfortable ride.

Our team is obsessed with providing customers a wide array of the latest and greatest footwear, apparel, nutrition, technology and accessories. We work with each of our vendor partners to ensure we carry products that will allow you to both maximize your enjoyment of the sport and assist in achieving all of your goals.

The Scranton Running Company was founded in 2010. Our team’s mission is to serve the needs of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s runners, walkers and fitness enthusiasts alike. We envision a thriving running and walking community in the area, and will tirelessly promote the benefits of an active lifestyle to all ages.

The Scranton Running Company is a service-​first organization, and we strive to provide every one of our customers with a unique, rewarding and efficient shopping experience. Led by Matt Byrne, two-​time Olympic Marathon Trials participant and two-​time Steamtown Marathon winner, our expert staff is knowledgeable in shoe fitting and gait analysis with a focus on injury prevention. Meet the Business Owner

Matthew B.

Business Owner

Born in Scranton, PA, Matt spent the last five years working and training in Philadelphia, PA. There he was a Manager at Philadelphia Runner, a specialty running store in the University City section of Philadelphia. Matt joined the Philly Runner team in 2004 and oversaw all aspects of the store’s operations. His product knowledge and ability to outfit a customer in the appropriate running or walking shoe is unsurpassed.

While at Scranton High School, Matt set the school record in the 3200 meters and earned 3x All-​State honors. At St. Joseph’s Univ, he won 3 individual Atlantic 10 Conference championships and was inducted into the University’s Track & Field Hall of Fame. Upon graduating, Matt turned attention to longer distances, winning Scranton’s Steamtown Marathon in 2004 and 2006. He qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the marathon in 2004 and once again in 2008. He has also represented the U.S. in the World Mountain Running Championships in both 2008 and 2009.
