Prep Kitchen Essentials

This review is for the Pro Pastry Baking Series
I came across Pro Pastry series from coursehorse and I am sure glad I did. I learned a lot of techniques that you don’t get to see when watching videos from you tube or just looking at the recipes alone.
This specific class is a 4-​week series, 4 hours per class. I can’t believe how fast I am able to make several things in less than 4 hours! They provide all the ingredients and materials in class and you are more than welcome to bring your own if you wish. You have to bring containers or baking dishes because you get to take home whatever you make, otherwise you eat it there.
I learned to make tarts — from crust to filling, crème brûlée, souffles, mousse, bavarian filling of the cake, swiss buttercream, chocolate lattice (?), and diff types of bread. The teacher gives us homework and we have pop quizzes (recited) to ensure that we learn.
The staff are amazing! Ultra mega helpful, now I know it is their job but the big plus is you see a big smile on their face when they do it. You feel like family when you in there.
I almost forgot to mention the 10% discount you get from their products when you’re enrolled.
Highly recommended to try one of their classes!

It’s a great supplement for the classes they offer as the exact equipment is available for purchase especially if you take the pastry series or single sessions. Affordable tools and some special ones on display are not bad too. It’s such a well utilized space for teaching and shopping. They have various ramekins, pans for cakes and tarts, scales, glasses, knives, aprons and towels. Don’t expect big stuff like mixers or any equipment. Staff is very accommodating and knowledgeable. It is highly advisable to take a class. You can register through course horse.

Awesome establishment! I attended a cooking party here for my best friend’s birthday. The food was delicious. The instructors were great! Lisa headed up the class and she and her team were awesome! They were interactive, thorough, and saw to it that we had a great time. Bobby ran the front of the store and provided excellent customer service, not to mention he’s an awesome DJ too! Lol! We loved DJ Bobby! Our entire party had a blast. Fond memories and not doubt plenty of referrals. The pictures alone posted on social media sparked several inquiries. So while we’ll tell those we know the PREP Kitchen Essentials is awesome, I’m hopeful this public review will spread the word as well. I personally will be back!

First off, I LOVE to cook and I can cook pretty well. However, I know they can help me get to the «next level» here. I’ve taken 2 classes — Knife Skills with Chef Rahm Fama and Sauces 101 with Chef Elizabeth Whit. I learned something new in both classes. Not only are the classes informative, they’re fun. Just be sure to ask questions — they will answer them. Chef Elizabeth Whit is very open about cooking, techniques, and answered all my questions. I felt both classes were worth my money.
The staff is very friendly — Bobby is a crack-​up and is familiar with all the items in the store. Know that the items are high-​end and they’re priced that way. The one purchase I did make was the Shun Santoku knife and its the BEST knife I’ve ever owned. It’s almost surgical.
I plan on taking the Professional Series in January and I’m looking forward to it.

I absolutely love this place. After retiring in December I decided to finally learn to cook, and this was the place to come, Chef Elizabeth Whitt, has changed my life forever. I have taken several classes and at the same time suggested them to my friends. The day time classes seem to be smaller and more hands on then the larger evening classes, But I still enjoy all of the classes and when I come hoe I have learned something new each time. I have now signed my husband and myself up for the Pro 6 week class with Groupon. Each Chef I have taken a class with have been great.

This is a cute little establishment tucked in a corner of a bustling shopping center. The staff are friendly and the kitchen is clean. You can bring your own wine for a $ 10 corkage fee or they sell wine there. If you come beverage less they offer tap water.
Three stars earned for 2 main reasons:
1) the first 40 min was a sales pitch about the products they offer… snore
2) you don’t get to make everything on the menu. You are assigned a dish for the sake of time. I really wanted to experience the prep and cooking for each dish.
I would go back but only for a discounted class. It was a fun 2 hours away from home but not worth $ 75 (full price).

I adore this place: from corky and fun employees to great products to the «piece de resistance» — the cooking classes. I’ve had at least 5 classes in the past 2 – 3 years and each one offers smart tips, a great time, and killer food! Today we made buttery, flaky, chocolaty croissants; next class I’m learning to make fresh cheese! (Try the pie class which is cleverly scheduled the day before Thanksgiving) (PS If it costs too much check groupon for discounts)

Me and my friend recently took the Surf n Turf cooking class and it was so much FUN!!! A lot more fun then we thought we were going to have, we learned a lot of good stuff too like chopping skills and the food was delicious, I highly recommend taking a class here.

I’m currently taking the Chef Pro Series I class, and I LOVE it! I cook quite often at home, so I signed up for this class to expand my skills and learn new techniques.
Chef Dylan is awesome. In such a fast paced class, he still takes the time to answer questions and make sure we understand what we are doing. It’s great to learn from someone who has such an intense passion for food, and the process from start to finish.
Yes, our classes do run a bit long, but I think it’s perfect. I would much rather have a longer class to learn more, than cut it short because time ran out.
The food we make in each class is absolutely amazing. Brined chicken, fresh pasta bolognese, hand ground pesto. And I still have a few classes to go!
I’ve already learned a ton of new things, and it really helps in the kitchen at home. This is helping me develop my passion for cooking, and I couldn’t be happier (I was an extremely picky eater. Not so much anymore!) I can definitely see myself coming back for another class!

This was SO much fun. We had a class with Chef Rham Fama who was hilarious. I took the Thai Food course. Chef Fama gave a great knife demo where I certainly picked up a few new tricks, a meat searing 101 demo, as well as guided us through 5 recipes. The owners (managers?) were professional and fun. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Really like this place its a little pricey but a good variety of fun kitchen things and gift ideas with a lot of flavored olive oils and mixes they even have cooking classes

Class with Chef Rham Fama was outstanding! I am a very good cook (been eating for many, many years) and I learned so much in 2−½ hours of hands-​on team prep and cooking in the Chef’s Red Meat class. I had a Groupon and selected Chef Fama from the schedule: I couldn’t have chosen better! He is an enthusiastic teacher and managed the 16 (or so) of us flawlessly. The only drawback is that each team makes a different dish (or three), so you do not experience creating everything that you receive a recipe for. Regardless, I had a wonderful time.
I did buy Chef Rama’s book that was for sale (10% discount when you buy while attending a class), and I also purchased a Japanese Shun knife that will require a good amount of practice to master (and one 10-​pound bag of potatoes to experiment my new techniques with), but since it was purchased during the class, I will get additional one-​on-​one instruction from Chef Fama when our schedules permit. I guess that this justifies the cost, not to mention that I finally own a knife that tomatoes will not laugh at.
Just a note on the store itself: quite pricey ($ 84 aprons?) but an excellent choice of cooking tools are available. You can also purchase a (small) glass of wine for $ 5 or a bottle for $ 9.99 (bottle is a much better deal) for sipping during a class, and assorted beers. It is easy to go a little crazy, especially when you can «play» with the items in the class, so be forewarned. Yes, I do intend to take another class; however, I have only experienced Chef Fama’s class and I cannot make any statements regarding any other teacher.

My daughter has attended many of the pro classes and has came home with amazing recipes that we have used continuously for parties, events and even just a simple dinner at home.

Took a class with Karla for succulent steaks and soufflé. We paid $ 79 each, later to find out others found a groupon for something like $ 49. That was my fault.
We took a class about steaks, and I ended up being told to make a salad while another table made/​prepped the steaks. I was pretty upset. I think if everyone comes to learn how to make steak, everyone should be able to individually learn the featured dish. Then everyone can spilt up the dumb side dishes.
I also don’t like that drinks weren’t provided with the class. They only had tap water, but your apparently allowed to bring your own wine, we weren’t told this in advance though.
Chef Karla talked all night about herself and her kid. She took a bad approach to prove to us she was a good cook. She went on all night telling us about how she traveled around the world 7 times and wants to go back to school to start a completely other career and drop cooking. You would prove to me that your a good cook by teaching me all you know, not telling me about your life. Out of a three hour class I think I only learned two things I didn’t know, but I could have learned them on YouTube.
Overall I expected more from this class, more instruction that is. This is a class I paid for, not a social party. I’m not coming back. I’d rather pick up a cooking class at a community college. I have two stars because the dinner ended up turning out good, but that’s what’s expected right?

Chef Rhama is the best!!!
With that being said this was our second time, my wife’s’ third, at Prep and we will definitely be back again. We took the Fish On class and we not only learned how to prepare the food but what we should be looking for while purchasing it for ourselves. We signed up for another class as we left and we love going here as a nice date night.
Of course we can not forget Sung. She is amazing and runs around while helping everyone.

Took «Fish On» cooking class with Rahm Fama. Amazing class, and learned so much about fish. I’ve always been afraid to cook it. We made 5 recipes, including a cake. I will definitely take another class and make some great fish dishes with fresh sauces and side dishes.

My friend and I came here for a Tapas, Paella and Sangria class with Chef Elizabeth Whitt. We checked in with the owner, Lisa, who was behind the register. She was very professional and so sweet. She showed us where to sit and answered our questions. Lisa also introduced the Chef and staff and gave us some information about how the class runs. Basically, there are 3 large work tables and you make the menu you sign up for with everyone at your table. So if you don’t fill a table with friends (6 – 8), you will be cooking a meal with new friends.
Our Chef and kitchen manager were excellent. We had all of our questions answered and learned a fair amount for being on our second cup of sangria. =)
A couple of hints if you plan on taking a class:
1. Bring an apron, they don’t supply one.
2. If your menu doesn’t include alcohol, or even if it does, you can buy a glass or bottle of wine to have while you cook. The cheapest bottle is $ 10.
3. How much you learn is up to you. Pay attention and get involved. If you hang back and resign to chop for your table, you will miss out on the cooking at the stove. I would advise you to shadow the Chef, and you will maximize your eduction.
4. Pay attention to where you sit. We got lucky and sat with some really great people, who were in a group of 6. There were some not so great people sitting to our left, and I was grateful I didn’t choose to sit there by the end of the evening. I heard some horror stories from some ladies in our group that they sat with some people who goofed off and ruined their food.
5. I highly recommend the classes by Chef Elizabeth Whitt, she is patient, kind and extremely knowledgeable. Each class has a different Chef.
6. I’ve seen that this Prep Kitchen has offers on occasion on Groupon, I am going to check that out as the cost of our class was $ 79 and the Groupon offer can be up to 50% off.

Ouch. Some of the reviews for this place are bah-​roo-​tal. Since I didn’t take a cooking class (why bother cooking when food can be delivered to your door?)
We went there looking for some odd kitchen utensils, including a round metal mold and a mortar and pestle. Found what we needed, although they were pricey.
The employee we dealt with was helpful. No complaints, but we were only there for products.

I’ve taken a 2.5 hour dinner class here 3 times and have really enjoyed all 3 classes. The themed menus are really varied and it’s easy to find an appealing menu. The quality of the meals that the classes have prepared have all been surprisingly pretty excellent! The flavors of some of the dishes and desserts have been as good or better as ones I’ve had in pricey fine restaurants. Tonight, we made an excellent corn and lobster chowder, grilled bone in marinated steak with olive tapenade, grilled calamari and sausage fennel salad, and a mind blowing salted caramel chocolate tart with Chef Rahm Fama.
All three classes I’ve taken were with Groupon deals (no issues using the Groupons whatsoever) which made for excellent values because the prepared meals are included. It’s inspiring to know that our meals could turn out so well!

Succulent steaks and chocolate class tonight was sooo Fun! Chef Rahm was funny and taught us everything! Yes the class was FULL and we started late due to folks arriving late but we left FULL, Fat and Happy! We met great people and the food was excellent! We have two new side dishes for thanksgiving now! Since we don’t drink wine, they said we could go to sprouts to get beer but I knew if we started drinking before we had to learn and cook and eat, we would never make it past 7 pm. We can’t wait to go back again! Fun Fun Fun!!! All the employees were helpful and friendly. Best Date Night in a long time!
