For over 30 years, The Masters has specialized in the repair and maintenance of Honda, Toyota, Acura and Lexus. We provide personal service to all our customers so that they know what we’re doing and why. We also use fair pricing because most of our customers are hard working people who need their cars, and we understand that. We also provide warranty updates, future maintenance advice, and a special relationship.

History

Established in 1981.

After a year of success establishing The Masters in Carmel, CA with 2 partners, Steve Pendlay took over the business in 1981 independently. He and one or two other mechanics continued the personal service and honest work that is still the ethic today. Greg has been our manager for almost 25 years, J.R. has been our mechanic for almost 10 years, and an amazing new man, Michael Thrasher, has added his expertise and talent to our group. Michael has allowed us to expand outside the Honda, Acura and Toyota specialty. He loves Subaru and Mitsubishi and other makes. Call us for more information. We are happy to help.

Decided to take my truck here for some repairs after hearing good things from others. The price was well below other quotes I had received, and the service was top notch! I’ve been to a number of other mechanics in the area, and the prices are either outrageous, or they never call you in a timely manner, or you just leave with a general feeling of distrust. Not so here. Greg’s communication was great, my truck was fixed very quickly, and I really felt like I got what I paid for (and then some!). I will be back!

Greg to the rescue again. My daughter calls and says her car made a funny grinding noise and now the car won’t move. I call Greg and he suggests having the car towed in so they could take a look. Once the car got to the shop they were able to diagnose the problem right away. Greg gave me a call and said the car would be ready that afternoon. My daughter and her car are back on the road. Thanks again Greg!

It’s hard being so far away as my daughter was having car problems.
We sent her over to Masters and they took a quick look at her car, fixed her minor emissions problem and sent her on her way.

I couldn’t recommend THE MASTERS highly enough. Unbelievable customer service here. I recently had to make a decision about whether to repair my 2004 Odyssey (163,000 miles) or to look into buying a different car. Greg not only walked me through all the immediate repairs that it would need, but gave me an informed opinion about future work that would likely be necessary if I repaired it. He also made himself available to answer any questions I had to help me make my decision, and he never pressed me to make a decision. This is particularly impressive because he let me keep my car in the shop for the duration of the process, which lasted for over a week. Exceptional service.

I’d gone to a place of ill repute to get my oil change and they came back with $ 2600 quote for new shocks, struts, and a bearing.
I took that quote to the Masters and they said my shocks and struts were fine. But the bearing needed to be replaced.
They saved me over $ 2000. I trust the Masters to know what they’re doing with my Honda, and I’ll never have anyone else look at it.
They’re honest, up front, and most of all, they care about your business.

THE MASTERS get a huge thumbs up and a sincere thank you from me. I brought them a problem that was ultimately simple to correct and a complete mystery to me; symptom was a warning light and no other visible indications of the problem.

I wish I had found these guys years ago. I have taken my Honda to the dealers for far too long. I have had The Masters service my car twice now. As others have said, price came in below estimate, and they are friendly and knowledgable. I had actually ruled out buying another Honda, because I didn’t want to be stuck with the dealership’s service, but now I feel like I could consider buying one again. Thanks Greg and Mike.

I was visiting Seaside from a few hundred miles away when my check engine light came on. I stopped in here and he (can’t remember his name… Sorry!) checked it out immediately at no charge. It was nothing major, so I didn’t have to have any repairs done while far from home. I tried to at least tip him, but he didn’t want it. Honest, friendly service. If I lived around here, this would be my new go-​to auto repair place!

I first found The Masters on Unilocal,and they were one of the first shops I went to to get an estimate for some engine work (valve adjustment among other things) on my Honda Accord. Their estimate wasn’t the lowest of all the shops I visited; however, they were the best choice by far. The choice was easy to make as their estimates were either identical, or cheaper than the Honda dealership, both the mechanics and owners I spoke to came across honest and trustworthy (and even ended up saving me from unnecessary, recommended maintenance), and they also came highly recommended from other auto mechanics in the area who did not feel as well equipped to work on Hondas.
In the end, the work was done quickly, and professionally, and the final price was not far from the estimate (still cheaper than the Honda dealer). The next time I need any engine work done that I don’t feel comfortable doing, I would definitely bring my business to The Masters again!

I found these guys from Unilocal and have been so impressed! Reading their reviews from other customers I just knew I had to take my car in to get a second opinion here! What a great idea that was! They helped me fix the problem at a cheaper rate than what I was quoted.
I then had another problem and they went and diagnosed the problem for me and then told me to go directly to Toyota to have my car worked on Bc they were not 100% confident in doing that specific repair because they had never done it before but only read about it. So they hooked up their computer and diagnosed my car, allowed me to do some research for it and without paying a penny for the code they sent me to Toyota.
You get really honest vibes from these guys the second you make eye contact!

I had a scheduled oil change this morning. It arrived at 8:15 and was out of the shop by 8:45. The mechanic was polite and professional when I asked a question about another issue with my van.
The Masters have been taking care of our Hondas for several years. I wouldn’t dream of going elsewhere.

They were recommended. I took my car in the morning and went for a 40 minute jog. Whe I returned the mechanic said they were all done. He said Greg had to go to Salinas to change his clothes because he spilled coffee on himself. I was forced to wait another 30 minutes for his return. The mechanic said they did a «GRAVITY» brake bleed where they pop the caps off each brake and let gravity settle the air in the system. The total time was at the most 45 minutes.
CHARGED ME $ 120.00 for maybe 35minutes of work, said they added brake fluid.
I just topped off the fluid the day before whe I installed new pads.
BE AWARE-​RIP OFF!!! And brakes still feel the same

I’ve been bringing my Hondas and Toyotas here since 1984 and every single service experience has been exceptional.
Steve, Greg and their mechanics are professionals: thoughtful and courteous. They do just what needs doing and they do it well. They stand behind their work. And, you could eat off the floor of the garage they keep the place so clean!
