PSA: I DIDN’T GO TO ANTIOCH, JUST THEIR CAFE. SO. THIS IS ABOUT THEIR CAFE.
It was okay lol. It was kind of dingy and gray… It almost seems like it used to be a boring cubicled office but has been renovated. It’s more of a hangout for the construction workers in the area rather than the college students. What threw me off the most though was just how pricey they are. I guess when you combine college prices and Seattle prices, you get a crazy shit show of wayyyy over priced items! I got a white mocha that was probably only about 8 oz. that was nearly $ 4. It was good though — I’ll give them that. But they don’t give you a lid and fill it like all the way to the brim… Like okay thanks let me just not spill this on the way to my table. I bought a box of the gluten-​free Oatmeal Raisin cookies from «Zoey Foods» which was in a pack of 5 or 6 thinking it would be a couple dollars. Yeah no, try five or six dollars. So ridiculous. I was just in the area for a job interview so it was just a desperate stop on the way there — if I get the job near this coffee shop, I won’t be back. Too expensive and very cold atmosphere.

Full disclaimer, I’m not a student here. I happened to be walking by tonight on 6^th and Battery at 7:10pm. It’s a rainy and cold night. My head is down, my coat bundled up. Out of nowhere, five feet in front of me, a log sized piece of stone falls from the sky. I jumped back in shock! It’s shattered into about ten pieces. Is this the meteor shower from Armageddon?! Should I run? Dive under a car? After taking a moment to compose myself, I look up and see a big sign labeling the building as Antioch. I also see a 3 – 4 foot chunk of cement missing from the northwest side of their building, about twenty feet up.
I’d always thought school would kill me when I was a teenager. Never would have believed it’d be a liberal arts college in my 30’s.

I don’t really know yet, I’m still in the midst of it but here’s my second quarter review…
My oversized left brain seems to really be challenged here regularly, the organization of the administrative functions and way the enrollment process works leaves MUCH to be desired. The fact there are no fewer than 8 separate web applications/​sites I could feasibly need to log into is just overwhelming and way too red-​tape-​ish for this kind of school. It’s not just the multiple sites that are a bit hard to navigate. I’ll just say that you should be sure when you sign up for classes that you’re super clear just how much in-​class time work vs. what online responsibilities there are to complete. I found already that some three credit classes are much heavier than other 4 credit ones, it’s seemingly a bit random in this area.
I also find that instructors seem to load you down with more readings than humanly possible-​certainly for a part-​time student– but in the end, I’ll save you the pain I went through, they’re suggested readings more than required ones. Carefully read and contemplate some that speak to you, but don’t kill yourself to do them all and you’ll be well prepared and still have time to actually sleep.
The only other drawback I’ve had is that there seems to be a higher-​than-​average cray-​cray factor among the students who choose to come here. When one particularly challenging fellow is in your class, it can tend to take away from the learning focus as well as water down the instructor’s ability to strike up interesting and meaningful group discussions.
All that being said, my right brain, however, is in absolute heaven. I’m constantly being sparked, enlightened and impassioned with new and exciting ideas. I have already determined that what is lacking in organization is more than made up for in quality of instructors with specialized and unique viewpoints they’re happy to share with you. The materials they suggest are all well thought out and I don’t mind having these books well after the course is over.
I would think of Antioch’s educational product as a textbook example of what a liberal arts education should be, a veritable (albeit high cost) salon of some of the brightest and most interesting people talking about how we will change the world. Still, it’s truly inspiring and I’m looking forward to the next year here.

I got one of the degrees in the C3 program and I must say that it was great. I must say that I got exceptional support from the faculty. The program is well designed and there is a good balance between theory and practice. If you expect to be spoon fed knowledge or just want a theoretical understanding, then this program will disappoint you. The program has so many cool courses and is highly addictive. It is not uncommon for students to come back after they graduate to audit courses, something I did the next quarter after graduating.

I’m disappointed with the food here. There are a lot of people walking around who I thought were waiters, but they turned out to be professors or something. But they have strong wireless, if you have an inside connection who can get you the password.
ALSO: They have one of those glass atrium things on the roof that would be perfect to smash through if you were in a spy movie or something.

As with any university, there’s so much to say about Antioch. I’m sure people have had a variety of experiences at Antioch, so it’s hard to encompass everything in one review.
The staff, faculty and students put a lot of effort into making this world a better place. For that reason alone, I would say that overall, Antioch deserves 5 stars.

Antioch Seattle is a great place to finish a B.A. degree or get a master’s degree. I can’t believe more people don’t know about it, especially since it has been in downtown Seattle for more than 30 years!
If you are interested in a focus on helping others and getting involved in community projects rather than just listening to a lecture, this is the place for you.
