Art Tile

I appreciate the quality and the selection at Art Tile. I had the front of my fireplace retiled and spent more than I had anticipated but the quality is beautiful and I consider my fireplace to be a focal point in my living room and my home. Was well worth the money and energy. I highly recommend going and seeing their selection.

Great customer service. We having been working for with them for years. We had an insurance claim for 3 bathrooms. The gentleman we worked with had a great deal of experience with tile. Did not rush us and even designed a diagram for our tile person to follow, when we had to go to a different size tile because of availability.

Nice shop, helpful people. Mary is a true artist and helped us with some design ideas on a quiet afternoon, they really take care even with the small order customers; we had a fun experience. We visited many tile shops in town, even the famous inexpensive ones, and found it a good idea to visit at least a few shops to find that just right tile. We are newbies to tile design and selection, really care about our small project, and found this shop did too! We have our own tile installer, so have nada to offer on installation services.

Well, the pro is that they have nice tile. The con is the atrocious communication and customer service. We are now 8 weeks late on our 12 week project, and they are responsible for the delay. We are organized and knew what we needed months in advance. Our tile was ordered with a buffer of two weeks more than Art Tile’s estimated delivery date. It didn’t arrive, and they never notified our builder. This was a shame for the tile installer who was scheduled and waiting. THREE weeks later it was supposed to arrive. But again, it didn’t and again they did not call. Inconvenient for the tile installer again, as well as the plumber and painter who were waiting for him to finish. Did Art Tile apologize? No. Did they offer any other solution when I went to the store in person to discuss the situation? No, but they were darned snarky and rude. The THIRD time the tile did not arrive when promised (another several week delay) I requested a call from the owner. Did I get one? No. At that point I reported them to the Better Business Bureau. That was a month ago, and they have failed to reply to two notifications from the BBB, although our tile finally did arrive. Art Tile does not seem to care about their customers, and apparently does not care about their accreditation status with the Better Business Bureau either. I would shop elsewhere!

If you want the BEST quality installation and tile — Art Tile is the place. We keep coming back for more! Several years ago we found Art Tile (recommended by a friend) and they did kitchen and bathroom tile flooring and walls. Then we had them do our fireplace hearth… and this year we have had them do tile flooring in two more rooms! Each time the quality of the installation was superb and they made sure it was done exactly the way we wanted it. Also, Norm was very careful to work around our needs for scheduling. And of course, Del is a superb craftsman! We wouldn’t go anywhere else for tile. They are great to work with and really minimize any disruption to the home. We are very happy customers.

These guys are really good in the store. HOWEVER, I tried to use their installation services and had an appointment this morning at 8am. Norm called me at 8:05 saying that he could be here by 9am. UNACCEPTABLE. I would still use the store to procure tile, but they burned me on the installation quote, and I’m not interested in giving them another chance. I had a lot more faith in these guys for being reliable and professional on the installation service, but if the guy can’t even call me with enough advance notice to reschedule, they don’t deserve my business.

This is an amazing place. Beautiful tiles of every description. Wise, sage, plentiful, gracious, knowledgeable advice freely given. And parking is never a problem. So if you have any reason, or ever even thought about maybe having a reason, to tile anything… go see Art Tile.

I highly recommend Art Tile. I originally picked out my tile based on the sample in the store, but as sometimes happens, the tile that arrived from the manufacturer did not quite look like the sample. Pete was so helpful and gracious when it came to working with me to change my order and be sure that I was happy with my final purchase. I’m very grateful for their willingness to help their customers get what they want in the end! They really went the extra mile.

Beware of Art Tile advice!
I like the feeling of Art Tile and interactions with the staff were pleasant, but they resulted in a very poor choice of tile. A recent experience there has me swearing off the place because I feel like I can’t trust their recommendations.
We are building a shower stall in simple white tile with a colored, textured band running around the stall at about eye level. The Art Tile salesperson I worked with knew exactly what we were planning. One of the sample tiles looked intriguing – an interesting sculpted pattern from a company called Local Dirt. The salesperson raved about what a nice young man the owner was and how she hoped they would make it. I noticed that the tiles seemed to vary in color shade significantly, and I was concerned about that, but felt we had resolved it so we ordered the pricey tiles.
Big mistake!
Unfortunately that salesperson didn’t warn me that Local Dirt tiles are highly variable in terms of warping/​flatness too. The samples I saw in the showroom weren’t warped (carefully selected for marketing purposes, I imagine).
If I had known that 8 out of 33 tiles I ordered would be so warped that one or more of their corners protrudes ¹⁄₈^th of an inch off the wall – very noticeable next to the standard tiles on the wall – I never would have selected that brand. Now my tile band doesn’t look intriguing, it looks unfinished and amateurish.
With the right project – one where everything is rough and uneven – these mutant tiles could work. But not on our project.
The Art Tile saleswoman knew what we were planning and didn’t say anything. Maybe she is just too enthusiastic about the young company. But personally I feel like I was sold a bill of goods.
Later, when I talked with her about it at the store, she really didn’t much care much. And when I wrote to Art Tile I got no response. Seems like they feel it’s not their problem. Fortunately for us there are other tile shops in town for future projects.
From all the negative comments about Art Tile on review sites, it looks like I’m not the only person who has felt burned by them.

I walked into the store thinking I wanted all white in my small bathroom and Linda S suggested I do a dark (almost black) slate floor and helped in the design of my shower. I had no idea what I was doing and my bathroom turned out absolutely beautiful. Linda was fantastic along with all the others I worked with through the completion of my bathroom. Highly recommend

No doubt about it: they have an amazing selection at Art Tile. I have even had happy experiences with the staff on the half dozen occasions I went in there. My beef is with their installation services. The guy who was supposed to do the estimate forgot about it and I had to call to get him to come bid the job. After he gathered all the info, he never actually gave us the estimate. I stopped by the store to try to get the estimate and he refused to come out of the back, saying he would «call on Monday». Of course he never did. This was 6 weeks ago.
The bottom line is no one should have to try this hard to give a business money. And it’s clear that there is no accountability between the store and the installers. Maybe they do a good job… but who is going to be there if they don’t?

This place does have great selection, but the best part about Art Tile is the helpful staff that work there. We had no tile experience and decided to redo our shower tile ourselves. Because we didn’t know what we were doing, the Art Tile staff had to lead us every step of the way. They were great!

So excited to shop here after seeing what a friend got for her home.
Shopped a while back (Mary helped us out — she rocks) and after shopping around for a while, I planned on returning to order.
Called store at 5pm, they advised me that day (Thursday) they’d be open until 7:30. Walked in at 6:59 was barked at for coming in so late and that I had to leave. Asked if I could put in an order for 60 square feet of tile #39. He barked out a no, and pushed us out the door.
Really, someone in your store tells me you close 30 minutes after you actually do, I tell you that I know exactly what I want, money ready to spend and you boot me? Not cool. Even though the tile they carry was EXACTLY what I wanted, I don’t believe in being treated like dog crap. Gave my money to the nice guys at the big box. Le sigh.

This place is the last word on tile — installation, cleaning, and maintenance! If you want to do it right, and keep it looking great, get all your supplies (not just the tiles) here.
The staff will turn you on to all the professional quality supplies (NOT the el cheapo plumber gunk they have at Lowe’s or Home Depot). If you can, go on a weekday when it’s not busy. But, if you do go on a Saturday when it’s packed, bring a book or a latte or your iPod and wait to get a consultation. It’s worth it.
For complex projects, I highly recommend installations by their affiliated contractors — done to perfection, and worth every penny.

My memories as a child visiting tile stores were drab stuffy buildings with crappy toys to play with in a fenced in area covered in astro-​turf. The tile was in bins stacked back to back like a record store.
Art tile is totally different. They have examples of tile everywhere, on the floor, walls and shelves. All are in eye level so you can quickly compare.
The drawbacks… the stuff seems to have a huge markup. I talked with a professional tile guy and he said you should shy away. I fond the same tile other places for much left.
The staff is very friendly and helpful unless you get the one with an English accent… she is quite unhelpful. It seems like she was new or in training as she constantly had to ask for help from the other workers. She called me the day all my tile was supposed to be in to tell me there would be a 2 week delay, I would have preferred a little more notice.
There is another woman there that is highly helpful offering advice and criticisms on your choices. She rules get her!

I am currently remodeling my bathroom and I started off by looking for tile at the standard places like Home Depot, Tile For Less, etc. Then a friend told me about Art Tile. I ended up getting all the tile I needed from them and I doubt I would ever buy from another store unless it was for some very cheap basic tile. Their selection is great. I bought some really interesting floor tile and then I ended up getting some glass tile that matched perfectly with the wall color to accent the shower. The staff is really friendly and they take a lot of time to go over your options. Saturdays are so busy they assist you based on a number you get when you walk in the door. The wait can be long, but this is only on the weekends.
Overall, the selection is amazing and the service is very helpful. I would say this is the best tile store in Seattle.

I’m not the sort of girl who loves spas or facials… I do have a real weakness for salvage yards, antiques, home improvement junk and especially: tile. I fell in love with tiling after my first bathroom renovation. When I spotted Art Tile’s scenic façade while zooming down Roosevelt I knew I had to go back and that a visit would probably hit my bank balance. I held off for two months, but heck I have a kitchen to renovate after all!
I think I spent 2 hours wandering in circles. The selection is beautiful and vast: high-​end to crafty, art to mass produced.
Don’t just look at the racks, look up at the walls and down at the floors which are patchwork display of 3′ x 3′ squares of tile examples. I took photos, talked to the staff and jotted ideas down. The staff was friendly, informed and just really nice guys who were excited as I was about my project.
Samples are available to take home in a ‘library system’… check them out and return them. I’m told they hold classes from time to time, but didn’t remember to ask about the schedule last visit…
Guess that means I have another excuse to go back and daydream :)

Art Tile kicks ass. The only reason I dock them a star is because their hours and location make it a pain for me to work with them.
I started going to AT in 2004 and worked with Mary, the woman who has really short hair or a hat on. She’s helpful, quick witted, sarcastic, but not abrasive. She patiently walked me through all of the steps needed in planning out my bathroom remodel and doing the work myself. She gave me some critical pointers for best results that I hadn’t picked up from books and Home Depot’s free clinic. She even priced everything out and made recommendations on where to buy a few of my supplies that their competitors sell cheaper. I think a hallmark of good service is a willingness to point you to a competitor at times. If you buy too much of any supply, they’ll take it back and refund you without question.
3.5 years later when I returned for another remodeling project, Mary remembered me (neither of us remembered each other’s name) and greeted me with great enthusiasm. Once again, she set me up perfectly and I’m off and running with another remodel project.

The staff at Art Tile is fabulous! They were so friendly and helpful, and really knew what they were doing. There’s tons of great stuff here if you’re doing home decorating project, though I do wish they had a greater selection of 1″ mosaic tiles. I’m definately planning on taking their beginning mosaic class!

I walked in here wanting to put some tiles on a table top, but I walked out wanting to retile my kitchen and bathroom and anywhere else tiles would fit. These are gorgeous — glass, stone, ceramic, handmade, you name it. Helpful staff and they even have classes on how to tile all by yourself and how to make mosaics.
