History

Established in 1963.

This is truly a locally owned and operated company that has been doing business in the Seattle area for over 60 years! We took over in 1998 when Chuck Bridwel (2nd owner) retired and gave ownership to us. Since then we have assembled an amazing group of people who have been working here together for over 15 years. You won’t find any flighty characters here. With the skyrocketing prices of real estate, our shop has moved a couple of times in the past few years, but we now have a small shop located in the Ballard Square where we hope to stay for some time.

My Wife and I were born and raised right here in Seattle. We run the company and work together out of our Sprinter van. We have been providing Mobile Locksmith Service to the Greater Seattle area for over 20 years. During that time, we have produced literally thousands of satisfied customers. I locked myself out of a condo and figured my afternoon was gone. After I called BLK they were onsite in about 15 minutes and had the door opened in another 5 minutes. Super fast professional and polite. Great service!

I was taking a break from Unilocal when I needed Ballard Lock and Key’s services, but oh boy, were these guys a pleasant experience to work with! About two months ago, I came home from work and (drumroll here), my locks and tumblers decided they didn’t like my key. Myself and my landlord spent the better part of 20 minutes seeing if jiggling the tumblers with a spare would work, but to no avail. I called Ballard Lock and Key at about 9:45, and within 15 minutes Bob had parked his van in my driveway and was hauling out his equipment. He tried his magic (compressed air, long metal locksmith magic) with no luck. He came back with a large assed wrench and other equipment and stripped the doorknob and lock out of my door and had a knew knob/​deadbolt installed in about 5 – 8 minutes; he spent another 10 minutes or so making keys for my new lock in his van. I’m not sure about the price for his magic, as my landlord took care of the bill.
It’s been a couple of months, but I’m still seriously impressed with 1) how quickly Bob came out, especially since I called so late and close to closing time, and 2) how seriously quickly I had a new set of locks and keys in my hand when he arrived. Bob himself was really nice, and a speedy, efficient worker. I was really happy to find a locksmith open till 11PM as well– a major plus! I had a new set of locks and keys within 40 minutes of arrival.

Call them on a Sunday and they were happy to help me everybody else was closed I met him at a job he was doing right up the street which was much more convenient to me then going to his shop he made a key for me in 5 minutes and didn’t even charge me anything I would recommend these guys to anybody very straightforward honest dependable

Bob is truly a life saver! I had a last minute emergency where I needed keys copied, (at 9p, no less!), and Bob finished his work with a client, got in his van and met me at his shop! Hands down the best customer service I’ve ever received, not to mention how kind Bob was to go out of his way for a stranger at night. I was in a pinch and thought I was out of options; luckily, with one phone call, I was saved. Thank you again, Bob, for all of your help!

They are a pretty straightforward business. They provide an efficient service.
My husband got locked out while taking out the trash, in his boxers. lol. I know, I laughed too. Of course, he did this while I was out of town. The guy I spoke to sent out a guy immediately. He came after 10 minutes so we were pretty relieved that he could fix the problem. It only costed about $ 77 including tax. Not a bad price to pay if you’re standing outside in your underwear in cold weather.
Since I couldn’t get a hold of my husband, I called to see if the locksmith was successful. The guy was like, «look, I don’t keep in constant contact with my guy.» This is probably true but as a worried wife, logic doesn’t always prevail in these funny but stressful situations. I guess he has a more sarcastic sense of humor. In regards to customer service, it was alright but I would have appreciated the interaction without the sarcasm. Aside from this, Unilocal is totally right in terms of of this business. They provide top notch service. If you can live without the pleasantries and want a fast and efficient person to help you when you’re locked out, this is the place for you. I definitely would use their services again.

wowWOW! You simply could not have convinced me that customer service like this still existed. I needed to get a set of keys duplicated and it was late at night. Saying Bob is awesome is a discredit to this guy.
I was an idiot and went to walk my dog without my keys (I have self locking doors) and got locked out in my PJs in this cold icy weather we’ve been having. I called up to get a locksmith and Bob wasn’t able to send anyone since it was extremely busy on his end, but he gave me his buddy’s number and everything work out. Bob exerted the upmost customer service I have ever experienced! He didn’t even have to help me out but he did. Also, gave me some tips for dealing with potential sharks in the business. Good dude!

Needed 8 locks re-​keyed and thought I would need a whole new lock for one door, ugh! Called this morning to find out what they would charge and when they could do the service. Sorry to have woken you Bob but appreciate your professional, fast and efficient service. Said you would be out by noon, called to say it would be a little later and asked if that was going to OK. Very professional and appreciate the communication.
Your associate arrived when scheduled, accessed the job and provided a good plan. In an hour the job was completed. Everything worked/​went as planned! Very courteous, quick and efficient!
The cost was appropriate and as quoted, worth the value!

A jam-​packed day before my knee surgery and of course, I lock my keys in my car for the first time since age 16. A friend told me to call Ballard Lock & Key and ask for Bob — he came right to the phone, gave me a quick quote and was on his way. Bob himself made it from Ballard to Belltown in rush hour traffic lickety-​split, and had me back in my car in less than 5 minutes. Holy smokes — AMAZING service. On a night that has turned my toes into Popsicles — we lock ourselves out of our house! Very responsive to phone calls, easy to get a hold of and schedule. Showed up on time and gave us a good education on what our options were for lock replacements. Normally they have the options they need on the truck, but we had a specific number pad lock we wanted. Without hesitation Eric (?) went across town to get the equipment we wanted. Stressed from a cave garbage troll of a new roommate, and not being able to cook because he is a filthy being and the use to be nice kitchen is now covered in flies … I leave my keys in my other purse, grab my backpack, and run out the door (starving for something to eat)

Bob is a total sweetheart! I’ve never had to call a locksmith before and it was Friday at 6pm before Labor Day weekend, I was looking at 3-​day weekend of being terrified and probably having to hide at a friend’s house. I called Bob and he came right over after his dinner and took credit card. He replaced a deadbolt and a doorknob lock in ten minutes flat, he even had the thought to offer me copies of the new key, saving me a trip to the store! He had me stand outside my door and use my new keys to get in, and demonstrated that the old key wouldn’t remotely work anymore. I almost cried I was so touched.
And my shy, hateful cat loved him! Truly amazing!

So this is what happened: My bf and I were moving into a new apartment. The kitchen table wouldn’t fit into the apartment door, so I had the genius idea of taking the door off of the hinges. Of course it wouldn’t go back on. We spent hours calling handymen, but couldn’t get a hold of anyone. Just when we were about to give up hope, I called ballard Lock and Key. I wasn’t sure if it was in the scope of their work, but Bob came out and resolved the problem within 5 minutes. Door is as good as new! He saved the day — if it weren’t from him, my bf and i would be taking turns guarding the front door over night. Can’t stress enough how much it meant to us that Bob came out to get us out of a pickle. Now, after 12 hours of moving, we can enjoy our new place :) Thanks, Bob!!!
