History

Established in 1961.

Bayview was founded in 1961 to care for the elderly residents of Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood and beyond. Early Seattleite Charles A. Kinnear bequeathed his family’s historic property to the First United Methodist Church for the care of older adults or children. The Methodist Church worked with the community to create a ten-​story residential facility, which was augmented in 1995 by a Wellness Center, Rehabilitation and Health Center, and Intergenerational Childcare Center. Today, Bayview Retirement Community is an independent not-​for-​profit organization, managed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. It maintains its affiliation with the Methodist Church, while embracing residents from many different faith traditions.

Phenomenal place to bring family to live. Very nice décor. Very friendly and helpful staff. I love the fire place they have in main lobby; its amazing!!! The rehab part in the basement could use a little more work being done to it. But overall great job here.

Despite its up-​till-​now five star ratings, Bayview is about to become devoid of bay views for about 60 per cent of its independent living residents. The management this week announced that its common bay viewing areas on each floor will be made private as a fund-​raising move. This means that more than half of the independent living residents will no longer have a collective living room and balcony on their floors. In other words, for the majority of the residents, Bayview will not be offering a convenient bay view — if this plan goes through. The institution’s main selling point proved to be a bait-​and-​swatch for those who chose Bayview because of its easily accessible bay views. — Ellis A.

I visited the Bayview Retirement Community just the other day with my company to help teach the seniors how to use Facebook. The facility is really very nice on the inside and the residents and staff are very pleasant. It was really fun working with the people here and I would recommend that any prospective senior should go and check it out for themselves.

Bayview is the best around. It is a phenomenal environment and their staff is top notch. I really like what they do regarding their events, especially during the holiday season. They also have a cool children’s program and Bayview’s residence get to see and interact with the kids which creates a very fun, happy atmosphere for everyone. Keep up the good work! :)

My son has gone to the Intergenerational Children’s Center since he was three months old. They have done a good job with him. He was a preemie who was born close to 31 weeks. And they have done a good job with helping my son with his development. It took a little bit longer to get over to the toddler room due to that he needed to be better at finger food and walking. But he has been in the toddler room since September. And they will work with the parents regarding any issues of discipline that they need the parents to help them with. I know my son has really good friends that he is growing up with. And he likes to visit the residents at Bayview Manor.
