Best Western Plus Pioneer Square Hotel

I can’t disagree with any of the reviews when it comes to location, charm, or even amenities. I slept great, and loved being close to loads of great downtown places to see.
Customer Service is everything, though. I travel for business purposes all the time, and we have an internal travel department that books all travel, including lodging. In almost 3 years, I have never had an issue until this hotel. After accepting the reservation, receiving the corporate AMEX information via fax, and even going so far as to check me into my room and let me get settled, they called to let me know that my room would NOT be paid for by my corporate card and that I would be required to pay for it some other way.
My company travel agent called them to try to solve the issue. They accused her of «illegal activity» and offered to let me pay cash for the room. The only other option was to book through Expedia (for an extra $ 100) or they would walk me out of the hotel. The person she spoke to said «It’s my hotel, I’ll do what I want»
I’ll never stay here again.

Great hotel overall. Don’t expect a super spacious room but it’s a beautiful old building with everything you need for a good stay. We loved the location. We were close enough to walk to trains, buses, the waterfront, and pikes market. The breakfast and staff were wonderful. It was really quiet.

We stayed here to attend an event at the nearby Century Link Field event center (walking distance) and we were very pleased with our stay. The area is a bit sketchy, so we were concerned about the quality of the place, but I must say were were pleasantly surprised. The customer service was outstanding, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The place is dated, yes, but that’s what you should expect from a historic building and location. Overall clean and safe. If you don’t mind a bit of city grit and edge to your location this is a great spot to land… especially if you are attending an event at Safeco, etc.

To start off, the parking was terrible. We had to pay an additional $ 25 in order to park in a really cramped and limited parking structure about 2 blocks away. When we got to the parking lot, there was a sign that said $ 8 for all day on the weekends. I’m not sure what happened, but we got overcharged? The parking lot was also filled with a bunch of reserved ²⁴⁄₇ spots for at least 5 floors up and the spots and roadways were very tight. Some floors even did not have enough room to fit two cars traveling opposite ways.
Upon arriving into my hotel room and expecting to relax and access the wifi, it would not connect for the first several hours that I had been here. Perhaps something to do with the signal strength of their routers or possible wifi problems occurring?
Other than that, the cleanliness and arrangement of typical furniture, appliances, and etc. that you would find in a hotel/​motel were satisfactory so I give them that one.

My first star is for the good breakfast. My second star is for the nice man who helped me with crutches and an ice pack when I hurt my leg. The main issue with this place is that we were lied to multiple times about paying for the hotel. My friend and I wanted to split the payment for 2 nights. I called ahead before booking and asked the best way to do this (we weren’t sure if we should each book a night and have to change rooms) they guy on the phone told me we don’t pay until we check out and at that point we would be asked if we wanted to keep the payment on the card we put down or pay with cash or a different card etc… Well we go to check out and tell the lady at the desk we wanted to split it and she said I already paid for it. Ummm I was not planning on using that card for payment at all and I ended up paying for the entire thing myself.
The next issue is parking. I’ve never stayed at a hotel that we had to $ 50 for parking and we should have been told about this in advance. Luckily they had breakfast because the unexpected fee took all our food money.
The crazy guy. We were walking back to our hotel and there was a crazy man outside yelling swear words saying he was sick throwing his hands up in the air. It was terrifying. He made us give him our water bottle and then threw it. They called the cops but still it was scary.
I don’t think I’ll be back here as I don’t appreciate being lied to especially when the lady at the desk didn’t even apologize for the other guys mistake. She just said «he probably didn’t look at the screen» … Sounds like he isn’t doing his job too well then. But to the guy who helped with my leg — thank you!!! He went out of his way to help me.

This hotel is amazing! I love the historic room. Rooms are a little small but I definitely come into town to stay inside. The location is perfect, so close to pike place market as well as great dept stores! The staff has been amazing here. I went to get change for the soda machine & they led me to the breakfast area that had a soda fountain, gave me a pitcher & told me i could fill the pitcher with soda &grab all the water bottles I want. They also put out cookies in the lobby every evening. I will definitely stay here again!

Super old! The rooms are very small, old décor. Continental breakfast is not that great, not much variety… just one waffle maker, hard boiled eggs, cereal, muffins… yea pretty much it! Asked for late check out, the guy said no… I’ve never been told no for a late check out especially since we stayed here for 3 nights! Wasn’t too happy about that. You can hear the cars from your room. OMG… the pillows are the most uncomfortable I’ve ever slept on, the bed wasn’t much better either. My neck and back at the end of the trip felt sore. I personally would not stay here again!

I love the location. This is a lovely 100+ year Hotel. I have a room on the 4^th floor. When I look out of my window, there’s a view of a wall. But that’s ok with me. I did not come to Seattle to look out the window!
This area of Seattle, Pioneer Square is historical and close to EVERYTHING. If you love to walk and like being «intentionally lost» this hotel location is Perfect!!! I am in love with the stair well. Every time I go up or the the stairs, I touch the beautiful wood banister, and wonder about all the souls that have been here.
Breakfast starts at 6am and I am very pleased to see what’s available. And finally… I am a woman traveling solo. I feel safe here.

Location is fantastic for the price. I booked this hotel in January for 3 nights. $ 96 isn’t too bad and the room is a decent size, clean, larger shower, nice boutique historic building and I have to say it again, LOCATION.
We were about a 15 min. walk from Pike’s Place. Next door was a decent saloon that served us up for a nice night cap, you’re down the street from Tats Cheesesteak (really good food).
Service was good and the front desk called us an hour after check in to make sure we were happy with our rooms. $ 96 a night ?! Yup, we got lucky. Everything else in the area was twice that. I mean, I know this is «best western», but honestly it’s not bad and I’ve saved a lot of money on room and board and had more to spend on my lovely trip in Seattle.

Step back in time.
This building is literally 101 years old. Brick exterior with old fashioned décor. Updated interiors in the rooms but they have kept the early 20^th century flavor. Down the road from historic/​touristy Pioneer Square. The hotel sits within throwing distance to the Alaskan Viaduct (built by the same folks who built the Cypress Freeway in Oakland, Ca, which collapsed during the ’89 earthquake). Now the Washington State Dept of Transportation are tunneling with the giant drill Bertha just on the other side of the freeway with their boondoggle project. Needless to say, this is a bit disturbing since there are cracks in the street and some issues with the architectural firm building between the hotel and the freeway (as seen on a local TV news spot on their lawsuit against the city). This is nice hotel and I would stay here again. It is within walking distance to Century Link field. But, to be honest, the Bertha project makes me nervous.

Will stay again! Parking garage just up the road is great! Polite staff. Within walking distance of the market/​downtown. Rooms are small but nice. Bedding was really comfortable and warm. Was warned about the homeless population in the area, but had zero problems. Definitely will be where I stay every time I’m in Seattle.

It looked like a tomb of ancient time. The interior part is a bit good but not satisfied me as for this two stars I could add half star as well but their ignorance of well service is out of great tendency of well making good one.
Never back to the place.

Great hotel! Trapp at the front desk was so welcoming, pleasant and professional during our late night check in. Our room was beautiful and very large (king bed with pull out sofa) and had a sweet little balcony. The breakfast was solid– hard boiled eggs, jimmy dean breakfast sandwich, waffles, fruit etc. we would stay here again if the price is right.

Parking not an issue … Historic Hotel located at the end of Yesler Way down the hill from Pioneer Square. You use the loading zone in front of the Hotel to transfer luggage to hotel cart. Parking ($ 20 night) is available using a magnetic card key at nearby Butler Garage … in-​and-​out privileges are not limited. Be careful where you park in the garage however. Many of the stalls are «assigned» for various offices and their personnel.

Didn’t know but Came during emerald city comic con so the prices were high. $ 170 a night for 2 nights. I was expecting a nicer experience for that price.
I asked for a higher floor room but didn’t get it. The girl at front desk was about to check
But then just simply said they were sold out.
I didn’t figure there was a convention here yet. I asked again but the gentleman explained the higher floor would be loud with the freeway and construction at night. I think he was lying since I didn’t see anyone working during nights or the weekend. The room they gave us was fine except there were 2 windows that looked in to other rooms and the air con unit.
This was bad as one of the windows it right in front of the toilet. I had to make sure the old fashion curtains were secure.
The room was relatively clean but no fridge or microwave.
Probably better if I stayed at a newer seatac hotel and trained it in and saved $ 70, or just paid extra to stay in a better neighborhood.
Pioneer square homeless people can be pushy.
Once off the light rail to the hotel, I was asked for spare change about 5 times within 2 hours.
Also down the street I saw a bigger older lady with no pants on. I looked away and walked faster.
Not worth saving a little money to stay here.

Nice hotel close to the water front. The price is not crazy expensive and the staff were all very nice. Our room had no view and the bed was ok comfortable. There is no micro fridge or microwave.
There is no parking at the hotel, but they have partnered with a garage around the corner (3 minute walk) for $ 20 a night.
We are on the outer edge of everything downtown, but we were easily able to walk to Pike’s Market and the Ferris Wheel. The Underground Tour is literally just across the street. We did have to drive to The Space Needle.
The only negative I’d have to say is that there are a lot of homeless people in the area begging for money.

Okay, really old renovated building. Like Abe Lincoln old. Next to a highway. Lots of people going right by your window during rush hour. But that’s what curtains are for.. And yet, really great value and style. It is right next to the Underground Tour place. It is in an older section of the town but there is a lot nearby, walkable to docks, ferry, etc. And we did. The staff was really polite and despite the loud heating system, we really liked the place. Would definitely go back or recommend. Lowest cost for the quality. A bit hard to find…

This is a fantastic option for a downtown Seattle hotel: reasonably priced, clean and comfortable with good customer service! Also, the building is a historic site and the old, regal, wooden staircase at the back was amazing!
We stayed for two nights back in October and I was really pleasantly surprised with our entire stay. After reading some previous reviews, I decided to give this hotel a shot and was so glad that I did. The price was one of the lowest I could find for the location (we opted for the king sized bed — a slight price increase from a basic 2 person room) and found our room to be large, clean and the bed to be very comfortable, if slightly more firm than I am used to.
Parking is an additional $ 20/​night and about a block and a half up the road, but there IS a loading zone just outside the hotel for check-​ins/​outs and the lot is secure and seemed to be mostly occupied by nearby businesses. They offer a complimentary continental breakfast every morning until ten (and are happy to let you stock up and take food back to your travel companion who is NOT a morning person) and is pretty well stocked with the usuals: cereals, waffles, pastries, yoghurts and of course juices and coffee/​tea. The service staff in the breakfast area were so friendly and didn’t seem to mind the morning we hung around past 10.
My only complaint about the hotel is that it can be a bit noisy from the road/​alley traffic. It wasn’t intolerable, but it was certainly there on the weekday morning of our stay.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced downtown Seattle hotel, this is a good choice!

Let me start by saying this hotel is in the OLDEST part of Metro Seattle. It can be a bit difficult to find because it is not your traditional looking Best Western. The building is about a 100 yrs. old but it is simply stunning on the inside… the management staff has done a wonderful job with keeping the building modern yet maintaing its original beauty.
Now here are some very important instructions I think people need to know because they are very simple and I wish someone would have provided more detail on how to navigate this area. First of all if you fly into SEATAC airport… don’t get rent a car… reserve a car service or even take a cab… unless your not physically cable of walking just under a mile.
What you want to do is walk over to the Link Light Rail station which is a little bit of a walk from the terminal… however remember what I said earlier if you have physical or medical issues then getting a car… shuttle…or cab will be your best option.
The Link Light Rail cost only 2.75pp and it heads directly north so you don’t have to worry about getting lost. The SEATAC stop is where you will originate from of course and about 8 stops or so (roughly 30 minutes later) you should get off at the Pioneer Square Station stop. Now once you get off head up the escalator or take the elevator if you like and when you get off you will see several different exits for the station. MAKE SURE TO CHOOSE THE EXIT OPTION THAT SAYS «JAMES ST.» THIS WILL BE VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE THIS EXIT WILL KEEP YOU FROM WALKING DOWN A STEEP DECLINE WHICH YOU WILL DEFINITELY ENCOUNTER IF YOU DON’T TAKE THIS EXIT.
When you finally exit the station turn right and there is a 5 minute walk to the hotel… make sure you look for a big «HOTEL» sign because there is not a clearly defined BEST WESTERN sign that is visible until you get really close to the establishment. When you walk in it is a little bit like walking back into history the lobby is very beautiful and the staff is absolutely delightful. They will get you checked in and make sure if your a rewards member to let them know because you will receive a «goodie» bag for your effort… LOL!!!
Some of the reviews I have read mentioned the size of the rooms… well let me say if they think these rooms are small… they really don’t know small. The room was plenty big enough (we stayed in room 303 which I recommend) and the bed was very comfortable. The free Wi-fi…roomy bathroom… high celings… nice working desk area… and great flat screen tv were all awesome.
Can’t conclude my review without talking about the GREAT BREAKFAST… OMG!!! Pre Packaged Sausage Egg and Cheese Biscuits by Jimmy Dean… Hard Boiled Eggs… Cereal…Pastries…Fresh Fruit… Milk…Juice…Coffee…Waffles…Greek Yogurt… Toast…Tea…and Oatmeal… LIKE I SAID GREAT BREAKFAST RIGHT.
Now be advised getting around by cab is your best bet here… but make sure you call down to the front desk and have them call you a cab (Thanks again Sarah S)…because for about 12 bucks round trip you can go to the fantastic Pike Place Market. Don’t come here and miss it or you will regret it… also be advised while it can be pricey to stay here for the location and everything to see and do… it is well worth it.
JUST WANTED TO ADD A NOTE HERE (4−18−16) THIS IS THE BEST HOTEL TO STAY AT IF YOUR TAKING A CRUISE BECAUSE THE CRUISE PORT IS A SHORT TAXI RIDE AWAY. ALSO IF YOU LIKE THAI/​ASIAN FOOD THEY HAVE AN AWESOME RESTAURANT FOR THAT RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO THE HOTEL.
This is now officially my «Go To» hotel in Seattle… and it should be yours to.
Eat, Drink, and be Merry my Friends!!!

I needed a last minute place to stay in Seattle and thankfully this Best Western had a room to spare (it was a very busy weekend in town). The location is in the oldest part of Seattle, and the hotel was quiet. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I did ask for a hotel away from the elevator and towards (if not) a corner, and received it. There aren’t any views, so don’t fret — if you want that, go stay near the Seattle Center.
Anyway, the staff was extremely friendly and even let me check in early. If you can’t check in early, you can store your bags until check in. They have breakfast for free, which I didn’t take advantage of. There is a bar next door, called the Saloon, and I really liked it — it’s sort of hip and only serves beer and wine at a great price. I used the free wifi at the hotel from the bar and watched tv — it was a safe and laidback environment.
My room was very small, which is to be expected from a historic building like this. It was very European. I had a single queen bed room. If you are a large person, you might not be that happy with it. It was extremely clean — I was taken aback — and the shower was nice and had many settings for you to enjoy. Newspapers are delivered to the door everyday.
The neighborhood is cool and you’re about a 3 minute walk to the waterfront where the ferries are. You can also walk about 10 minutes and hit downtown, and further — about a 15 minute fast paced walk, to Pike Place Market. Overall, I really liked the neighborhood and the walk — lots to look at.
A tip: It’s hard to find cabs in that area, so have the hotel call ahead for you.
Overall, a nice stay — I liked it and would stay here again.
