In all my years of going to a salon, Heather is the only stylist who has ever given me a cut that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED. I have long hair, and I used to dread going for a touch up or trim because, as I’ve come to find out, no matter how upscale the shop, very few stylists actually know how to trim and layer long hair without chopping 6 – 8 inches first… But thankfully, I found the Canary Salon and Heather, who pretty much works magic on my hair every time I go in. I’m blown away every time! The products here smell incredible, and make my hair so soft and shiny. Now I always plan big date nights around when I make my appointment here because I know I’ll arrive looking, smelling (haha), and feeling sexy and amazing.
As a great bonus, the salon itself looks amazing. It’s inside one of Broadway’s older buildings, with one wall in red brick and decorated in black and white. It’s classy, comfortable, clean, and beautiful. This place is hands down the best in Seattle.

Heather has been cutting my hair for about four years and there is a reason I haven’t found someone else! She knows how to cut men’s hair so it looks great short and grows out even better. Endless thanks to her and her team! Keep up the stellar work! :)

Heather at Canary Salon has been an absolutely amazing find. I wouldn’t dream of ever seeing anyone else again. She is great about understanding my hair, and what best to do with it and always seems to understand just what I want when I come in and explain.

Rachel has been preforming Magic with my very course curly hair for 5 years. She is excellent at coloring, highlights and hair cuts. I fly every six weeks from Alaska in order for her to color and cut my hair.

I had a great visit here at Canary. For years I have been trying stylist after stylist trying to find someone who not only did a great job on the cut and shampoo, but also is knowledgable, can easily demonstrate their knowledge, and is personable enough to feel like you’re not being lectured. I’ll be going back in for my next cut here. Plus every song on the diverse playlist was one I forgot I knew all the words to ;P

Curly-​haired people, look no further. Heather is simply a genius at cutting and coloring curly hair. For 3 years, Heather has been styling my hair and has given me consistently gorgeous, healthy, and natural looking curls — the type of curls that people stop me in the street to compliment. Seriously. It happens. All the time.
Heather knows what styles will work best for my hair texture and face shape and always takes the time to explain how I should care for and handle my hair to achieve the same look at home (not an easy feat with curly hair). I love that she supports my low maintenance philosophy and gives me cuts that air dry or diffuse beautifully. Basically I just walk in and say «make me look good.» And she always does. Over the years, I’ve referred to Heather nearly a dozen friends with diverse hair textures and styles (many but not all with curly hair) and they have loved her cuts.
Bonus points for the comfortable and non-​pretentious vibe at Canary Salon. And for Heather’s delightful personality. And for how welcoming she is to LGBTQ clients. And for the opportunity to support a local, woman-​owned small business. Basically, Heather and Canary Salon are great. I cannot recommend this place more highly.

This salon is incredibly adorable, clean, bright, and plays the best music. Rochelle is a goddess. She is both passionate about hair as an art in addition to knowing the science behind it all, and the chick does great work. She is fantastically fun as are all the other women who work there. I cannot recommend this place and Rochelle enough.

I love the ladies at Canary! They are so friendly, and the place is clean and comfortable. I was able to book an appointment online within a week, and got a reminder a couple of days before.
I got my hair cut by Rochelle. I went in thinking I would just be getting a regular ol’ trim because I want to grow my hair out again, but Rochelle totally mapped out a plan to get my hair long and healthy again! She cut only the ratty and whispy parts off and my hair is already looking twice as full without losing much length. She also taught me about my hair texture and recommended ways for me to keep it protected and hydrated. I thought this was incredibly thoughtful because other stylists I’ve had in the past give me conflicting advice or just say «you have a lot of hair!» and that’s it. Besides doing her job really well, she was also super fun to talk to – like catching up with an old friend.

I can not believe how much I love this place. I had a hair emergency after my previous place had melted my hair OFF the day before with taking me to blonde. I was so scared the rest of my hair was going to fall off when I washed it on my own. I booked a 911 treatment with heather the owner and she’s a miracle worker. She had my hair 50% healthier with just that one spot. Thank god for ppl that know what they are actually doing in this industry.

Christi is awesome! She not only really funny but she’s extremely talented. I’m very picky when it comes to my hair and she’s the only one I trust. I’m always pushing her limits when it comes to color and she takes the challenge on with guns blazing. She’s a true artist. She’s made me in to a fire princess, a unicorn, and a tropical bird and I’ll never go anywhere else.

Cannot express how much I love this place. I have fine hair, and HATE having to explain to hairdressers that no, layers won’t work, yes, I have tried.
Rochelle is a godsend for my hair. She gets it. She also just gave me the best ombré purple that has ever existed.
These guys are great with hair, they are SO talented and I just love them. And you can text for an appointment :)

I’ve been going to Heather since I moved to Seattle and wouldn’t trust my hair with anyone else. I’m pretty low maintenance and Heather always shapes my hair so it’s easy to blow dry and get out in the morning. I recently cut off 8 inches to donate my hair. My resulting cut was so cute and I’ve received so many compliments. Great cuts for a very reasonable price in my opinion.

I have naturally curly hair. It’s really hard to find a stylist that knows how to cut and color my hair. It is porous and dry. Heather has been doing my hair for over two years and it has been flawless. The great thing is her number two stylist, Rochelle filled in for her and she also did a superb job. They must have fantastic training to offer that kind of consistency. They have excellent service and are knowledge on products!

I’ve been seeing Heather (owner and stylist extraordinaire) for nearly two years now and she never fails to impress. I keep seeing her because, well, she’s amazing, but even if I had to come in for a last minute appointment I would — without a second thought — also trust any of her other staff members who are always so friendly, fun, and clearly capable, whenever I’m there.
I’m not terribly hair-​savvy, but I like for my naturally dirty blonde hair to appear as naturally red to strawberry blonde as possible, depending on the season, and Heather makes this dream a reality over and over again, even when I don’t have the exact words for exactly what it is that I want. Best of all, no one ever comments on me ‘changing my hair color’ because she’s just that good at making it look like a natural transition. With that said, I’ve seen countless gorgeous executions in color and cut that are far more adventurous than my own on other happy customers, so it’s safe to say that Canary can do anything and everything you could ever want for — I highly recommend.
Not only is Heather a total hair-​master, but is also an absolute pleasure with whom to spend a couple of hours. I always leave the salon inspired by her and the obvious passion and talent with which she runs her business — she is always looking to improve the experience for both her customers and her stylists and it shows. Thank you, Heather, for making it so easy to visit and support your awesome salon.
On a sidenote, I always treat myself to post-​hair tacos next door. But that’s for another review.

Love this salon! Came here for the first time after not having my hair cut for over a year, so this was a great ‘first haircut’ experience (: Right as I walked in I was offered a complimentary beverage which was very welcoming. Wesley cut my hair, and he was amazing! Super nice and friendly, and really listened to what I had to say about my hair. Throughout the session he gave me a lot of tips and advice on hair care and maintenance that was really helpful! He’s new to the salon, but I thought he did an amazing job with my hair, he really knew what he was doing! I could tell he was very experienced. Can’t wait to come again in a few months! (:

Usually i never write reviews. But I’m very upset with my service here. Don’t go here if you have jet black hair trying to go light ash gray blonde.
Heather made it seem like she knew what she was doing when I wanted to get my roots done as my hair was growing out. I already have light blonde hair (This was my first time going to a salon to bleach my roots, my mom did my hair previously). She suggested my other option of doing ombré roots so that when my roots grow out I wouldn’t have to go to the salon every other week to get them retouched.
So when my appointment comes, she attempts to do the ombré with olaplex treatment. (I go to Gene Juarez a few daya later to get a haircut and explain what Heather did to my hair, and she said that using olaplex with bleach slows the bleach process down by alot. You would think they should know that.) So my hair is not even close to blonde AT ALL. and she unnecessarily bleaches ALL of my already bleached hair to get some light brown spots and banding, which I really did not think was necessary since not all of my hair needed to be bleached again!
Even worse, she tried to put the blame on me that I should’ve known my roots wouldn’t become blonde in one appointment. Well if she knew that then whyd she even attempt to make my hair blonde in one appointment then? She then asks Rochelle what she should do to my roots and my situation with my barely lifted roots.
She proceeds to bleach my roots one more time so at least it looks a little better, but ONLY at the top of my head where the roots are visible due to time constraint. She also puts a gray tone on all my hair (as I said I was looking for an ash gray look) to help cover up to roots, but my roots were still distinctly brown… I honestly don’t know why I paid for this service in the end but I wish I could get a refund.
I was here for 5 hours to get shitty ugly roots that I was not looking for and no haircut. I ended up having to bleach my roots at home myself to make it look better! Like I shouldn’t have to do that. I’m highly disappointment and I’m honestly mad that I wasted 150 dollars at this place. Even my mom who has no salon experience did a much better job. I feel disrespected and mad that I even came here, you would think that the owner of this salon should do a better job than this.
I’m going to Gene Juarez from now on, they even gave me a cheaper deal on bleaching my roots! The whole point of me coming to canary salon was due to money but it just backfired on me and ended up being more expensive at canary.
So yeah, point is, your better off going to Gene Juarez based on my experience here.

I can’t believe I’ve never posted a review, I was sure I had. I have been seeing Rochelle since I moved to Seattle — so about a year and a half.
Until a few weeks ago, I always had long, layered hair, and she always did a great job of getting just the right shape. She is so friendly and so fun to catch up with every time I’m there. One thing I appreciated off the bat was when I told her I was pretty bad about not getting my hair cut every 3 months like I was supposed to. She said «Nah, I’m a believer that you only need your hair cut when you need it — not any specific time.» It’s always nice when you feel like people aren’t just trying to get money out of you by getting service when you don’t need it yet.
A couple of weeks ago I got it in my head that I wanted to cut all my hair off. So I put together a Pinterest board and just told her «make me look good.» The cut and the style looked great and all of my friends were asking where I go.
Rochelle is also a wizard with color. She posts pics of her favorites and I’m always blown away. I haven’t had highlights since 7^th grade, but I love her color so much I decided to get mine done. Once again I showed her a couple pictures and just said, «Make me look good.» It’s a very subtle look that comes out nicely in the sun. There’s definitely a reason Rochelle is always booked up for weeks!

I started going to see Rochelle after the last few haircuts with my previous stylist at another salon left me unhappy. Rochelle changed ALL of that! She gave me the best haircut and color I ever had after listening to what I wanted and my explanation of how my hair usually behaves (my hair is very thick and coarse, so it does take someone special to pay attention to its quirks).
Rochelle gave me a great long hairstyle and beautiful inky purple color that I had for months before deciding to chop it all off to shoulder-​length a few months ago. Then last month, I went in to lighten my hair for the very first time, and she worked with me to get the perfect ash brown color that I wanted, even though it was a challenge to get my hair to behave!
All of the stylists are super friendly, and you can go in with photos of your «dream hair» and they’ll be honest in whether or not it’s possible, a good look, and etc. Or, you can be like me and just vaguely give them an idea of what kind of style you’re looking for and somehow they’ll make it happen. I’m a happy regular client!

Preface: I’ve been going to the same hairdresser for six years, but after moving to Seattle and finding myself desperately in need of a new haircut, I decided to give Canary a shot. After being burned by a salon down in Tacoma (WORST. HAIRCUT. EVER.), I was skeptical at best.
Rochelle asked a zillion questions – how I usually styled my hair, any issues I was having, what I liked and disliked about it, what I wanted it to look like, etc. which was immediately soothing.
Like most people who haven’t gone to beauty school, I had a vague idea of what I wanted my hair to look like, but lacked the vocabulary to describe it. So I showed her a photo of Alexa Chung (duh) and said: that. I want my hair to look like that.
I’m going to be honest: I’m hesitant to say, «Yes, I love this haircut,» right after a haircut, pre-​washing and styling it myself. Dare I say, I was even a little let-​down when she said I was all done.
But then I washed my hair this morning, and let it air dry.
My hair looks like Alexa Chung’s. With zero effort. It is EXACTLY what I wanted. It is perfect. It’s less fluffy, but still voluminous. The waves are full and soft. The bangs I was hesitant about are perfect and subtle.
I’ve found my salon.
