Capitol Hill 60 Minute Photo Express Closing November 30 2012:
I, along with other amateur and professional art photographers will be sorely missing that convenient little photo finishing lab. I had the pleasure of meeting Raffaella (Raff) Johnson, manager of «Capitol Hill Photo» back in 2009 when Ballard Camera closed their shop on NW Market St and I took my 35 mm print and slide film in for developing. Shortly after that, they needed my services as a professional computer repair technician and consultant to repair and upgrade some of their older production equipment and to give them an initial web presence. I got to know her and the staff pretty well over the last three years and I enjoyed every visit to «the lab». The kind of quality, attention to detail and affordable pricing CHP offered over the past 27 years has become rare in this day and age and I am so glad to have experienced it first-​hand. While it is not my place to go into the details as to why CHP is closing, I will say that it has nothing to do with «this economy» and it was a logical move. That said, I hope I win the lottery.

I had a hard time finding a place for the UK standard visa/​passport photo and ended up going to three different places.
The place to go is on Capitol Hill at 60-​Minute Photo on 14^th. Perfectly done, knowledgeable staff, great price.

these folks will bend over backward to give you the results and customer service you want. they’re great! they even have a film drop-​off slot for people whose schedules don’t coincide with their hours.

First roll of 120 I’ve shot in ten years and was very excited to see if my Mamiya RZ still worked… it does. When I dropped of my roll of 120 film for processing and high res scan I was told it would be an hour… HOLY SMOKES AN HOUR! I was more than pleased.
They went above and beyond helping me with a glitch and special request I asked of the lab personal.
My choice for a pro lab and will return with all my film processing needs.

I went to take a passport photos. Staffs were friendly and nice. Fast services. Price was okay, not really expensive than I thought.

I just came here the other day to develop my 120 that’s been sitting around for ages and my first b/​w roll. It was really nice that they only charged for the prints that did come out and the staff was alright. I’ll probably be coming back here a lot but I was a bit confused why I had to wait over 3 hours to pick up my stuff (maybe it was the type of film I was getting processed, I dunno). Anyways, I wish I had more time to talk with the staff, they seemed pretty nice and very knowledgeable.

Staff was great, some shots didn’t come out as I was experimenting around a lot, they developed & only charged for the prints that worked. Extremely helpful and friendly about it whether photography is an avid hobby or you’re just starting out, tips, advice, recommendations for film, ISO, slide/​x-​pro, etc. Convenient location with parking, great quality & good prices.
Specifically, developed a roll from my Diana mini, square-​frame & they trimmed my prints for me in format.

these guys really take photography seriously, but at the same time are friendly and easy going. i’ve taken a bunch of rolls here and always feel like i’m in good hands. they bend over backward to take care of special needs. like the time i screwed up and left no space between frames. they let me custom cut the film. even gave me those little finger cuff things (which look like elf condoms, really). they do things quick and right. it’s amazing. i’m surprised to see even one person here say differently, but they use a holga. case closed ;-)

I am taking a photo class over at Central and needed to have my film developed and a contact sheet made. This is where my teacher suggested since its close by, and the place he uses.
Capitol Hill is totally inconvenient to me, but based off of reviews, hours, services and prices, I decided this was the best choice.
They did a great job with the basic job I had. Just 2 rolls of black and white developed, cut, and a contact sheet made. It only took a few hours, and It was completely reasonable. I even got a 10% discount since I was in a class at Central.
The price was about $ 9 for develop and contact, compared to $ 16 at Moon Photo. Plus, the develop film every day they are open, unlike Moon who only does it twice a week!
They have everything you need, in a timely manner and at a reasonable price. I doubt I will need film developed any time soon, but if I do I will definitely go back to 60 Minute photo!

Not many places left in town like these guys. I wish they were still open on weekends, because its difficult to get down in time after work. Fortunately I live nearby. Great, friendly service. Good pricing. I really hope they’ll be in business for years to come.

Worth mentioning that they’ll push and pull film, and basically develop /​cut /​package the negatives any way you want. They’ll even take instructions on things like agitation during development.
Very understanding and accommodating to the fact that how the film is processed is as important as how the film was exposed; an invaluable trait in a lab.
(Wish they had some Saturday hours, but not holding it against them.)

It really does help that this place is in the middle of an art district because all kinds of customers go through here that they know exactly what you ask for! The service is very helpful and friendly. They were also really honest about the new closing hours which I was really sad about because there no more weekend trips here :(But whatever keeps them in business is fine with me!

ALSO.
You can come here with half-​frame negs and the staff will NOT tell you that your camera is broken (like some other places in town!).

I have been shooting digital for a while, but recently found my film camera and fell in love with shooting with film all over again. I have many friends who speak highly of 60 Minute Photo and since it is really close to almost everything I do, I headed over to have a mystery roll of film developed, the one that had been left in my camera. I was so pleased with the service. Every employee at 60 Minute is friendly and helpful. The pictures turned out great and the development is done really quickly. I plan to take many more pictures with my film camera, so 60 minute will be a new BFF.

I love that the woman behind the counter didn’t bat an eyelash when I started pulling tape off of the seams of my plastic Diana camera to unload a fresh roll of 120 film.
They do whatever you want, how ever you want it. Cross process? Develop only? Don’t cut the negatives? Print a contact sheet? Develop and scan? They know what you mean, they know how to do it, and they’ll do it fast.
Prices seem very reasonable, especially considering that they can do things that your average film-​counter person doesn’t even know about.
For example as of 1÷13÷2009:
Developing:
35 mm or 120 color film (incl. C-​41 B&W), develop only: $ 4
35 mm or 120 B&W, develop only: $ 5
35 mm or 120 processing & contact sheet: $ 8.50
120 Color processing w/​prints: $ 3 to process, $.70/​print
Standard 35 mm color prints/​devel:
12 exp. $ 7.10
24 exp. $ 11.30
36 exp $ 15.50
The print prices seem high, considering that snapfish and costco will both to this for way, way less (but the quality is also probably way, way less). I don’t want the prints anyhow, so this doesn’t matter to me.
Scans:
1.9mb file: $ 8 first roll, $ 5 next 3 rolls
4.5mb file: $ 11 first roll, $ 8 next 3 rolls
I can’t speak for their scanning, as it’s cheaper to just buy a decent film scanner if you’re planning to want everything digital (My new Epson 4490 will pay for itself in just 12 rolls at these prices; of course, I’ll have to scan them myself.)
The shop itself is no-​frills. They don’t sell retail stuff. There is no décor. No ambiance. But who cares? You’re only in the shop for a few minutes.
And although it’s easy walking for anyone on Capitol/​First Hill, there’s even parking for the times you do have your car.
With all of this so close to home, is there any reason not to start shooting film again?

i sent my wedding pictures to snapfish and the quality of the development was a joke.
SO, i brought them to these folks. the service was EXCELLENT. they were friendly, professional, AND printed some beautiful pictures.

Great local service… fast turn around time. They do cross-​process, black and white or slides all in less than an hour. Never have had a problem, and have used their services at least 40x… Oh, they also have a parking lot, which is always an added bonus in Capitol Hill.
Wish they were open on weekends though :(

Trust me, less than an hour. They also have some cool CD file stuff so you can share your pictures with your friends online!
