I’m a southerner, so I know good BBQ. We tried them on Bitesqaud tonight, and I was really craving BBQ. The mac/cheese was really just blah and the cornbread was very dry. My ribs were okay. I did have some decent yams. I love supporting local businesses, so I’m hoping maybe they’re improve the food?

Honestly, I don’t see it. We went in for lunch today. Carlos was very welcoming and made us feel right at home. The way he spoke about the food got us really excited to try it. I ordered the special — a burger with a sliced hotlink and bacon. My fiancée got a pulled pork sandwich(the star of the meal). Mac and cheese and a piece of cornbread for sides. I heard the microwave going pretty often, and it showed in the meal. Burger: charred and dry. Hotlink was store bought, and I’m pretty sure the burger was too. Cornbread: Dry, maybe even stale. No butter or anything with it, so we picked at it the best we could. Mac and cheese: Fine, but didn’t have much flavor to it. Pulled pork sandwich: Best part of the meal, but still barely passable. Pork was pretty dry and the sauce was something I could get out of a bottle. Nice portion size, though. Carlos’ personality gets the second star from me. I really wanted to like this place, but the food needs a lot of work, especially for the price we paid.

Love this place. Top notch BBQ and the owner is incredibly friendly and outgoing. Will be taking my family here soon. Oh, and the prices are amazing. The atmosphere is no frills, but it doesn’t matter when the food is this good.

I had the Superfoods salad and rice & beans. My husband had the ribs and mac n’ cheese. Everything was so darn good and FRESH! And on top of that it was inexpensive. I love love this place. I live in Shoreline, but it is definitely worth the drive.

Pretty scrumptious food! Eating the Swiss bacon brisket sandwich only led me to eat the bacon Mac ‘n cheese. Even after finishing both, I was craving for more. The meat is spot on! You can’t find this type of BBQ anywhere! It’s a relatively new business, however the food and customer service are both outstanding and won’t leave you disappointed.

Carlos was such a joy today, and the food was superb! The meat was so tasty, and I can’t wait to come back again for some vegetarian food soon! My husband realized on the way home that he forgot to leave a tip. We will be back, and we’ll get you double. Sorry about our forgetfulness! Thanks again, you made our day!

Upon walking in i did not expect much on this small restaurant, but Carlos and Omar greeted me friendly and I was surprised by their BBQ menu as the restaurants name is herbivores. Carlos had told me about his Texas style BBQ and which inclined me to stay. I looked upon their menu and chose their 12 dollar rib dinner, a pretty good price. It consisted 3 ribs, cornbread and two sides, I chose the mac&cheese and okra, corn, veggie mix as my sides. When my meal came my jaw dropped, the first thing you notice are the portions, literally this meal could feed a 300lbs football player. The second thing is the savory smell of BBQ sauce, just made my mouth water and third as I took my first bite, my teeth drove right through the meat because the meat was so tender, smokey, and juicy. Carlos can cook some absolutely stunning BBQ. The veggie mix, cornbread, and mac&cheese put the meal over the top. I love this and I will be coming back soon and tell your friends if you read this, try it, because you won’t be disappointed

This is a qualified review since I did not try the food(yet). The owner asked us in to explain the strange juxtaposition of the establishment’s name and menu. This place looks and smells like a barbecue joint. And it certainly serves lots of meat. But the menu also includes a lot of vegetarian options. The owner explained that he decided to offer the meat options for the construction worker trade from a nearby site. Fair enough but the name is quite confusing.

Not a vegetarian or vegan restaurant. Makes me wonder if the owner knows what the word herbivore means… As a BBQ restaurant(which it is trying to be), it needs a lot of improvement. The brisket was thin sliced tough beef and the pulled pork lacked flavor. The service was slow but with a smile. I won’t be back.

Carlos was very welcoming with his conversation. I felt right at home. My friend had a grits and collard greens wrap with mac and cheese. Said it was delicious. I had a brisket sandwich with collard greens. Them greens was spicy and SOGOOD! MAN. That’s what i’m talkin’ about! You gotta come here. The food is really good. And that blackberry rhubarb pie… YUM.

We are so happy to find this gem in our new neighborhood. I am a vegetarian, and my husband is a carnivore… this place made both of us very happy! The superfood salad was delish, and my husband said that the brisket sandwich was also very good. In chatting with the owner, we mentioned that we had just moved to South Seattle, and had been trying all of the local restaurants. We mentioned that we went to Island Soul in Columbia City the night prior and my husband mentioned he had their ribs(Side note, Island Soul is also amazingly delicious!). The owner of herbivores sent my husband home with one of his smoked ribs, so that he could do a taste test to see which he liked better. To our surprise the vegetarian owner can seriously cook ribs! My husband said it was tender and flavorful, and knocked the socks off of the Island Souls ribs he had the night before. So there is that! We are excited for our next visit!

I stopped in before catching my train this morning. They serve breakfast until 11:00; I came in about ten minutes past. I wouldn’t have tried ordering breakfast items had I actually checked the time more carefully, but they made me a fresh batch of cheddar grits anyway. Extremely nice of them. I wouldn’t expect that service from anyone! I also grabbed one of the breakfast sandwiches from the counter, which was probably a risky choice on my part considering the time. The bacon tastes salty and seasoned in a homey way, and I wonder how it’s cooked. The sandwich is good, but the red and white paper dye stained the English muffin and egg. Maybe could just wrap these sandwiches in foil. Again, these were probably about to be thrown out and I’m sure they are great when fresh. I will wake up earlier to get breakfast next time! Can’t wait to try the lunch and dinner options, too.

I don’t even know where to start… there is just so much goodness all around! I called in an order after reading about this place on Facebook. Now I really GET it. Upon walking in, I was greeted by Carlos(owner) and his family. What a great bunch of folks. So friendly and kind and were open to answering all of my many questions. They really give you a great feeling right off of the bat. YES…it’s mostly vegetarian food. So many healthy options in a neighborhood full of not-so-healthy options is a welcomed change. YES… they also have meat in the form of savory slow-cooked BBQ. All of the good sides such as collard greens(OMG Live Them!), Mac and cheese, melt-in-your-mouth cornbread and more are quite the hit in our house. My teenage sons inhaled everything(and one even walked back down there for more). They are raving about the ribs and brisket. I’m full just off of the greens and cornbread and a few bites of brisket. The portions are huge! As a single mom with two gigantic teenagers who love their meat, I am thrilled to have a place that offers the healthy options I prefer alongside the manly meat options my son’s crave. I can’t wait to return and try out some of the salads. I hope to see this place stick around for years to come.

Delicious BBQ. Outstanding customer service. John came all the way here from Texas last week to help out. I don’t know what they pay that guy, but the pride he takes in his job, the quality of his work and his outstanding customer service skills are priceless!

Stopped in for grand opening lunch today and was very glad I made it. It’s a cozy little spot with great service and absolutely delicious vegetarian and vegan salads, sandwiches and soul food sides, as well as a selection of meat items. The chef is vegetarian but has ribs, burgers, etc on the menu so everyone can find exactly what their looking for. I had a hard time deciding what to have, so I went with a few sides and the super food salad. I had cornbread, Mac n cheese and collard greens for sides. The food was truly amazing, especially the collard greens. Slightly spicy and tangy, I could have eaten a large order and will next time.
