History
Established in 2011.
I first started using my camera to earn money in high school, shooting local sporting events and working after-hours at a small-town newspaper darkroom. Over the years I would return to photography time and again with varying degrees of seriousness, sometimes working for pay and sometimes not. It wasn’t until many years later that I began to consider photography as a viable full-time career. After spending more than a decade pushing numbers around in the finance world, I finally left corporate-land and switched to photography as a full-time business in 2011.
Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner
I invented the name Chaucer Wells years ago when I was working at an East-coast financial services firm. I wanted a pseudonym that would allow me to pursue my artistic craft while keeping my photography life separate from my suit-and-tie life. The name is taken from the names of two literary giants, Geoffrey Chaucer and H.G. Wells. My given name is Patrick.
Photography masters who have influenced me:
Lewis Hine. Arnold Newman. IIrving Penn Walker Evans. Jim Shaughnessy. Richard Avedon. Henri Cartier-Bresson.
My personal interests reach well beyond photography. Other passions include music, technology, ecology, and science. I’m not sure if this makes me well-rounded or frightfully eccentric.
