A very mixed experience. Was looking for a quick lunch on a break from the zoo. Stumbled across Chief Liao’s. I usually stay away from«Asian Fusion» restaurants because from what I’ve experience, the cuisine isn’t as good as specialty restaurants. As I was seated, I asked the waiter for recommendations and he pointed to a few of the Chinese items, That’s almost the last time he spoke to me. It was Friday lunch rush(mostly from take out orders) and he was running around very hectically. I was by passed three times, so I finally just left the table and walked up to the counter to give my order. The same thing happened when it was time to get my check. Very slow service. Now here comes the alternate view, THEFOODWASQUITEGOOD!!. I started with the Pot Stickers(very flavorful and not greasy) and then had the Ma Pao Tofu(a very tasty fresh tofu stir fry with carrot, peas and pork) Now I understand why most people prefer take-out(free delivery within the area) at this restaurant. The food is good, but they need to improve with their customers that are actually seated at their tables.

By far my favorite Chinese food in Seattle. The quality of food is par with China harbor and costs half as much. The staff is friendly but keep in mind they are very popular so they do get busy. I call my order in and pick it up all the time. The General Tao chicken, Almond Fried chicken, fried rice, chow main, and Honey walnut prawns are the best. They also deliver on nights I am feeling lazy. After trying many of Seattle’s Chinese food spots, this one is my go to, I don’t even try elsewhere now. Do yourself a favor and order in. Delivery will take between 45min-1 hour.

Waited on a pick up order that was supposed to be ready after 45 minutes. It’s wasn’t. The place was messy and chaotic and none of the employees seemed to have a clue what was going on. The guy at the front told several people who came in after me that he has no idea where there food was and it would be at least another half hour. Left after standing in the dining area ignored for another 20 minutes. Won’t be going back.

The service was quick and friendly. I ordered chow mien, which is usually a safe order at a new place. This wasn’t the style I was used to. It was made with thin noodles, but they were pretty dry. There was little sauce or liquid. It must be a different style from a different part of China. I wish I had ordered something else.

Chef Liao is great. This is my go to for take out food. We always pick up since we live so close, and I never have to wait more than 10 minutes. My husband and I normally order 2 entrees for around $ 23. Rice is $ 1ish more. I highly recommend. It took me at least 3 other take out places before Chef Liao and I’m sticking with them!

I always come here for the lunch special because it is such a good deal. You get an entrée, side of rice, an egg roll and a cup of hot and sour soup! Tea is complimentary here which is nice because a lot of chinese restaurants will charge for tea. I order the beef with vegetable, it’s filling, tasty, and delicious. This chinese food is very americanized though, but it’s not really heavy compared to other americanized chinese food, which i really appreciate. Almost everything on their lunch menu is under 10 dollars and you get quite a bit of food ;).

Solid Chinese American food(oh yeah — they have Vietnamese and Thai food also). I got Prawns & Vegetables stir fried, hubby got the Pineapple Beef, and we shared pork pot stickers. Fresh and tasty, with big portions. I judge all Asian restaurants by their rice and the rice here was a bit dry and old — like it’s been sitting in the pot too long; the food was good but I want moist, fresh white rice! If that had been the case, I’d rate this place 5 stars. Everything else was good.

Solid four stars for Asian delivery. Great flavored without being salt laden like far too many Asian takeout places. This place has an eclectic mix of Asian dishes primarily consisting of Chinese, but also including Thai, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese staples. All the meats are tender and the fried items are not overly breaded. Plenty of leftovers and as others noted, delivery is always quicker than quoted.

Best Chinese(American Chinese) outside of the International District. Very consistent. Love that we can request no MSG! The Mongolian Beef is my favorite dish here.

Great local Chinese spot in Seattle! I love the Mongolian Beef and the portions are very large for the price. The staff has always been nice and they do pick up orders which are always ready in time. Definitely worth your time and money!

We looked up places using Unilocal and this place came up. My husband and I decided to try and we were not disappointed. I ordered the Hong Kung Chow mein(with crispy noodle) and my husband ordered the Kung pow chicken(spicy level 4) and the pork fried rice. All of it was flavorful and neither of us had to add any soy sauce. My husband likes«spicy» and while the king pow packed a lot of flavor he said that it could have been a bit more spicy.- next time he will order a 5 stars. Overall, the service was quick and the restaurant nice. The plates were generous for the price.

Hot and sour soup was the only redeeming part of this meal. Everything else was kind of slimy and very over priced. Portions are huge. Ordered the chicken chow mien, which was semi ok. Pad see ew — slimy thick noodles. The spicy green bean Thai was super sweet and the sauce was way too thick. Mongolian beef was not spicy enough, not much flavor. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Use to love this place when I first began eating here a few years back. Seems prices have sky-rocketed while taste has gotten pretty average. I’d give them a 3 on taste and portion and a 1 on price. Prices go up every few months it seems otherwise they are over charging. Won’t be back here again.

The Mongolian beef is amazing. I could eat it multiple times a week. The other food I’ve had here is pretty good. The fried rice and chow mein are typical. Walnut shrimp was good. Service is always great.

It was seemingly difficult to find any Chinese food in Seattle, but Chef Liao’s was about perfect to satisfy that hunger for greasy, classic take out Chinese. Portion sizes were healthy in maybe 9×9 containers. I got the orange beef, sweet and sour chicken, chicken fried rice, and cream cheese wontons. 1. The sweet and sour chicken was good, but some of the pieces of chicken were so chewy I could not bite through them and had to throw them out. 2. The orange beef was really good — tender, perfectly cooked. 3. The chicken fried rice was a little bland, and the restaurant did not put soy sauce in the bag, much to my chagrin. 4. The cream cheese wontons were an excellent value with 10 in an order, but they were super greasy and less on the sweet side and more on the salty side. I would go there again but mainly because I need a cheap Chinese takeout fix every now and again.

After years of hunting for a fabulous chinese, found it! Best in Seattle so far. Wonderful Chow Mein, Shrimp and finally the perfect General Tso’s chicken ever. Also the Pork appetizer took me back to Tea Garden in the 70’s, perfectly barbecued and seasoned. I at 10 slices at least. Will be back.

Got some good Chinese American food here the other night. The price is rite for the amount of food you get. Each dish could feed 2 people. The flavors were tame, I wish there was more heat and complexity. I asked for 2 starts and things were still very mellow. Verdict if you want something better than the Safeway Chinese and a better value with great service come here!

I get take out here from time to time and am still learning their vast menu. Food is often excellent(sweet and sour prawns, I’m looking at you) and often not(frozen peas and carrots in the braised prawns with chili sauce?!?). I will keep trying because it seems like a cool little family business in a neighborhood I love, but it’s trial and error for sure.

I’ve been looking for a solid Asian restaurant in my neighborhood since I moved in a year and a half ago. Chef Liao took me a while to find, but boy am I glad that I’ve found it. The Mongolian beef is great. The lemon chicken is also very good. A lot of times the sauce is sugary and way too thick. Liao’s sauce is light and you definitely get the lemon. The food is also only lightly fried. I’ve had about five dishes but all tend to be on the lighter side(not heavily fried) and very tasty. I’ve only had take-out at Liao, but every time that I walk in, I see it as a place I’d have no problem dining in. This is now my go to Asian place.
