Specialties
Law Office of D. Jill Pugh practices exclusively in the area of employment law. This means the firm represents people regarding wage disputes, contract disputes (including severance agreements, non compete agreements and/or non solicit or non disclosure agreements), employment discrimination (based on race, religion, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, veteran status, use of federal Family Medical Leave), unlawful terminations, and unemployment compensation benefits. The majority of the firm’s clients are individual employees, but about 20 to 25% of the practice involves advising businesses on employment issues, drafting policies and contracts. The firm does not handle on the job injury claims (workers compensation) or insurance coverage disputes (short term or long term disability issues).
History
Established in 2001.
The founder of this firm, D. Jill Pugh (formerly known as D. Jill Hawkins), began the firm as a solo practice on October 1, 2001, after already practicing primarily in the area of employment law since November 1994. The intent has been, and continues to be, to provide quality legal services with a human and empathetic touch. Originally the firm was housed in the Dexter Horton Building in downtown Seattle, and then moved to Capitol Hill in an historic landmark Victorian era residential building (The Ward House) in January 2006. In May 2013, the firm returned to its downtown Seattle roots by moving to the Safeco Plaza building.
Meet the Business Owner
Jill P.
Business Owner
A compassionate advocate for my clients, I have been practicing law since 1994, almost exclusively in the field of employment law. I love what I do — it is a calling as well as my business and have done it long enough to provide solid experience and assistance to help clients navigate their way through the entire employment arc, from negotiating a position through termination and including unemployment benefits.
I am also an avid Mariners fan (against all odds!), a mom and wife, an animal lover, owned by five (yes, five!) cats, and in those rare moments when I have spare time I enjoy science fiction, archaeology, and scrapbooking.
