Deli Shez Café

I always order the lamb gyro and it is always good.
Service is great. The restaurant is kept clean. It’s nice to be able to sit outside even though there are only a couple of tables.

I’ve eaten gyro’s all over the world. This place goes right to the top of my list. The portions are huge. You definitely don’t need the fries combo. Wonderful flavor and don’t pass on the «hot sauce» which isn’t hot but tasty.

This place is a great spot for a hearty lunch. We had the gyro and the fattoush salad with chicken. The salad was super tiny. Not what I was expecting, but it did the trick. the gyro, however, was really tasty. Literally dripping with flavor. We’ll

Some serious issues ranging from cleanliness, level of service, unavailability of items (please don’t microwave wave my frozen scone), and generally dodgy.

A good gyro and shawarma shop. The menu isn’t large which I feel is due to the location and size of the place. I would like to see more opinions. Then again I come for a gryo or falafel so I can’t complain too much. Be warned that the Gryo Plate isn’t a gryo with side but the meat with sides.
Not much to say about such a small shop. They offer coffee like every other place in Seattle but I am disappointed that I can’t get a Greek/​Turkish coffee here.

Gyro special is $ 8.50 for sandwich, fries, and a pop (aka soda for you peons). It’s delicious and cheap.
Be warned: they have a tendency to take their good ol’ time getting your prepared. Don’t come if you’re in a hurry.

This is one of those neighborhood places that has so much potential, with very little competition, yet drops the ball!
I’ve tried this place out 3times in the last year (I live in the neighborhood) and was disappointed each time but this last time was worth a review. –I ordered a falafel sandwich «spicy» and was told it would take 10minutes. I walked down the street, grabbed coffee, came back and waited an additional 20minutes because my sandwich wasn’t ready. When I got home and took a bite, I was confused. –No taziki, no hummus, no tomatoes, no hot sauce– just dry falafel and a few sprigs of wilted lettuce. On the upside the «pita» was different than expected but good.
I had time on my hands so walked back over and explained my disappointment. The one employee working the register and cooking during a busy lunch hour tried to repair the sandwich and it was still mediocre at best. I’m sorry Deli Shez but I will never be back. Learn how to staff appropriately (as 30minutes to grab a sad sandwich is absurd) and add some attention to consistency in your product if you’d like to stay in business. Not to mention some background music would help warm up the place!

Recently moved to the belltown neighborhood and was extensively looking for a new gyro spot. Deli shez is my new go to! The gyro plate is normally what I get and everywhere else is between $ 12 – 17. Theirs is $ 8.99 is a steal. The meat is so tender and tasty and they give you pita with hummus AND tsatkiki sauce. I highly recommend.

It’s unfortunate because the gyros and falafel salad here are quite good, using real crumbled feta and a garlicky tatziki sauce. But I just can’t let the horrible service and uncleanliness of the place slide. I hate to give a bad service review when you visit a restaurant and they’re understaffed, but if you have one person working your register and making dishes during lunch hours while the phone and delivery notifications ring endlessly while a line of customers wait, then that’s pretty unacceptable.
I’ll return to give it another shot, especially because I’m so close to work, but this will merely be a convenience trip and I wouldn’t recommend coming here to others.

What can I say, they have great gyros! The way they pan fry the meat to make it crispy is really nice. Definitely call ahead if you can, though, they get slogged at lunchtime.

I ordered the shawarma and it was not at all like the shawarma I’ve had at other places (here it is advertised as Arabic shawarma). Essentially it was exactly like a gyro except wrapped in a shawarma casing. In addition, a fair portion of the meat was dry and over-​cooked– it was sort of like eating crispy bacon. I don’t know if Arabic shawarma is supposed to be like this, but it was definitely very different from what I expected.

It is always, always about the meat. With that in mind, I think this may be one of the best gyros in the center city. The meat is a good mix of crispy, thin and meaty (not the soggy meatloaf you get elsewhere), while the tzatziki sauce isn’t overpowering, and there is a decent balance of lettuce and greens. I believe I have gone to every single gyros restaurant in Seattle, and I would say this has got to be one of the top five, imo. Nothing fancy, just as simple and quality a gyros as it can get.

Love this place!!! The food is always warm, tasty and well portioned. The staff is very polite and at times very funny. I stop by once a week and it is a great and effortless experience every time.

Their Gyros and falafel are excellent (and I’m from the middle east), their service is quick and friendly, and you walk out at under $ 10.

Deli Shez Café is the place to go if you are anywhere near Seattle! With their amazing Gyros you cannot go wrong. They were fresh and tender. What can I say the place is great, the food is great, the service is amazing! Overall I would reccomend this place to anyone!

Greasy
A bit pricy for the quantity and quality of food.
Falafel sandwich and falafels are bland tasting and very greasy.
Hummus is too thick and bland… not a good recipe.
Bugs (flies, mosquitoes, or gnats) flying around inside while you eat.
Small, cramped dining area which isn’t that clean.

This is a review of carry-​out from Deli Shez Café.
Deli Shez is a little gyro shop in the heart of Belltown.
First, I really do dislike giving local neighborhood shops harsh reviews. But, in this case, it is what it is. I tried to figure out a way to justify a two star review and I just couldn’t do it.
The staff was relatively friendly to me. However, when I first arrived it appeared as if the two men working there were having a disagreement. This is just something customers should never see. The food took around 10 minutes to prepare.
The ambiance is very basic. It is relatively clean but it was a bit haphazard. It just didn’t seem like there was pride in the way the space was presented. There was also a foul odor. I couldn’t tell whether it was emanating from the kitchen or through the door they had propped open. This door opened into a large parking garage.
Honestly, if the food rocked, I would generally sweep these weaknesses aside. But the food was bordering on inedible. If I hadn’t of had some homemade guacamole and salsa in my fridge and a microwave oven to reheat it, I would’ve had to toss it.
I had the Chicken Gyros Plate. It came with chicken, hummus, rice, salad and pita. Honestly, it was all pretty unappetizing. The chicken had the texture of cold scrambled eggs. The salad was just some shredded lettuce. The pita was cold and hard.
As I mentioned before, I doctored it up a bit, reheated it and was able to get a lunch out of it.
The cost of the plate was $ 9.89 (including tax).
Overall — There were other negatives (and few positives) but the main take away for me was that I simply didn’t enjoy the food. To me, it just seemed thrown together. Personally, I do not plan on returning.

I ordered a large Greek salad which was very small for the price. I also ordered the Gyro plate which was over $ 12, it too was very small. My order was over $ 30 and I got very small portions for the price. The food was alright but nothing special.

Deli Shez is a nifty little Belltown find off the main beaten track of First & Second Avenues. It has a lot to recommend it:
THE GOODIES: Deli Shez has a very nice selection of Middle Eastern standards (gyros, falafel, hummus, etc.). They are flavorful and freshly prepared. The lamb gyros are cut to order from a genuine vertical gyro spit (to Unilocaler Kristen B. I respectfully submit that this IS genuine gyro meat; there are different styles. You may be familiar with the technique of stacking lots of slices of lamb on top of each other, and then putting them on the skewer. This is the style of very finely grinding lamb to a pâté-​like consistency and mixing with herbs and spices, then forming on a the grill spit and grilling. This IS the real deal, and it was very good). If you want your gyro to go, you’ll appreciate their ‘why-didn’t-I-think-of-that’ approach of wrapping it up like a Taco del Mar Mondo Burrito. This way, you can peel the foil and eat it without dripping the sauce all over yourself, like Elaine in that famous episode of «Seinfeld». Service is outstanding. I don’t know if the staffer who served me is the owner or not (she said she does make the hummus and falafel), but she was like bottled sunshine, and really made you feel welcome and your business was appreciated, which goes a LONNNNG way in this biz.
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: DS has a modest collection of drinks, and it would be nice to see a wider variety of offerings in the beer and wine department (especially Retsina, which is a natural compliment to Middle Eastern cuisine). The hummus, while nice, was a tad underseasoned. A bit more garlic, paprika, and a smidgen of cayenne will go a long way here.
THE VERDICT: A competent little café which helps address the rather underserved market for Middle Eastern cuisine, Deli Shez offers solid performance, and it’s few shortcomings are more than compensated by warm, gracious service. It’s a great spot for a quick bite in the city; I say check it out!

Deli Shez Café delivers. That makes me super happy. Also, I’m glad they have fried mozzarella on the menu. Maybe they baked it, because the texture is awesome. Well, dunking them in hot sauce makes for a fabulous lunch with Diet Coke. Total yumminess.
The food is fresh and healthy with all sorts of pita’wiches and salads on the menu. They also carry baklava. The prices are good. But I should probably do takeout instead of delivery for it to really be cost effective.

Awful Meat Combo Plate takeout: salad is under the meat, rice is gritty, missing pita, runny overly salty hummus and meat is in small bits and pieces. Never again.
