Devin inspected all aspects of the the place, went more and beyond to explain the results to me, a first-​time buyer. He also has great knowledge and answers to my questions. I feel acknowledged about the place by the end of his service. Thank you again!

A friend recommended me to Pillar to Post after he also had an excellent experience with them. We worked with Stan Franklin for our first home in Kirkland. We were scheduled within the week. He was there early, was extremely clean and respectful of our new home. Plus he had some very nifty tools. We got the package with thermal cam because we had heard there was a prior roof leak. It was a little expensive, but worth every penny for me. I’m glad we paid a little extra for the peace of mind.
My dad (who was an inspector) had just passed away and i wouldn’t be able to call on him for advice. Stan was very understanding of that, even let me follow him around everywhere looking over his shoulder and explaining everything to me and giving me an idea of how to maintain the home long term. It was very reassuring.
I will happily recommend Stan to anyone. It was a fantastic experience.

Devin was fantastic. He was both thorough and professional during our inspection of a property in downtown Seattle. His inspection was comprehensive and informative. He managed to save me $ 140 by telling me it wasn’t necessary to conduct an asbestos test.
I was initially confused by some very negative reviews for Pillar to Post, but it appears that those refer to other (unaffiliated ?) inspectors. I can’t speak to other inspectors, but Devin was fantastic! 5 stars!

Not happy about the inspector who came to inspect my new home. The tile in one of my bathtubs was not done properly and was covered up in a bad way. After I moved in, the tiles started to pop off and I noticed there was water damage on the inside. When you put your palm against the tiles you could feel how soft it was. Very obvious and he missed it. I did complain to him and he offered to replace the tiles which I was grateful for.
He also stated the flashing on the roof would eventually needed to be repaired but I didn’t know it was imminent. It’s been raining and now the roof is leaking by the fireplace. I had a roofing company come up and they said someone tried to repair this as well and did a horrible job. Again, something my inspector should have picked up. I will not use this company ever.

Devin is awesome. We bought a house a couple months ago and I used Devin a couple times on some properties I was looking at.
Couple points:
Thorough * He did a great job explaining his inspection process and taking us along and was completely honest and transparent.
Patient * He was very patient in answering our questions and showing us what to look for, information on preventative maintenance and associated ballpark costs with addressing each little issue.
Prompt * The timing of making an offer on a home is crucial these days. Devin’s availability within a 24 hour period was crucial. We made a successful offer on a home and his availability and thorough inspection was key to helping us draft an offer backed with confidence.
Lastly, Devin clearly shows how much he loves his job and what we thought was going to be a stressful experience turned out to be the opposite. He felt warm, genuine, honest and the overall experience was pleasant and educational.

We hired David with Pillar to Post to inspect the house we were in the process of purchasing here in WA. We could not be in attendance because we were out of state at the time, so our realtor was present when he did the inspection. The only reason we used him was because we had an inspection done on a house in WI. and the inspector was with Pillar to Post and did a fabulous job and we had no surprises after we moved in.
Well that was not the case with the inspection performed by David McPhee. By the looks of his report, you would think he had been at a different house by the overt
discrepancies. Upon moving in a large area of black mold was found in the basement and garage, siding on one area of the house was very deteriorated. Plus so much more that it has already cost us over $ 30,000. in repairs alone that we did not expect to happen. The things that have cost us the most, would have been obvious to an experienced true inspector. If these discrepancies had been brought to our attention before purchasing the house we would not have purchased it, or would have negotiated for a lot less.
Please beware, there is very little recourse in their contracts they have you sign.

We used Devin from Pillar to Post yesterday for our new home inspection. There were a lot of concerns about the home (leaky roof, leaky basement, etc), and Devin addressed each one, and then some. He took his time to go through all the items with us and explained how to address/​fix them. Truly, I don’t think an inspection could have gone any better! Devin is thorough, and is patient enough to explain everything in laymen terms. We will use them again for any future homes, and I *highly* recommend Devin!

We are first time home buyers and did not have much experience in the housing market to go off of when searching for a home inspector. We placed an offer on a home and had it inspected by a different company. The offer ended up falling through due to the sellers reluctance to fix issues that came up during the inspection. This inspector was thorough and recommended by our realtor but he was expensive and we had to wait a day before we got an e-​mail with his full report and a separate e-​mail with pictures.
On the 2^nd house we put an offer on, we decided to go with a different company to see if we could save some money. Our friends recommended Mel Scott and we couldn’t be happier with our decision! He showed up to the property about 20mins early to get on the roof and inspect the outside before myself or our realtor got there. He took several pictures and explained things of interest throughout the inspection. Even minor details such as weather proof coating on the inside of the fireplace were brought to our attention.
The best part was that he brings a little rolling box that has this computer AND a printer with him! He typed up the report and printed the entire thing right there before we left the house. Everything was placed in a binder which he provided, along with a seasonal checklist for the house and a reference guide in the back giving current estimates for repairs/​replacement appliances and fixtures.
We will definitely be calling Mel again for any future home purchase!

Today I had the home I wish to purchase inspected by Allen Stanczyk. Allen was a total professional. He put me right at ease with his warm manner. He was very clear in his communications to me about the inspection. He encouraged me to follow him around, and he actually explained how everything functioned. He was honest but not alarmist about points of concern in the house. I felt completely confident in him, and he did an excellent inspection. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs a home inspection. He also provided me with all kinds of information about home ownership and maintenance; and he produced and sent me the report within hours. Every service in life should be delivered with such professionalism and competency. Thank you, Allen!

Devin Lehman is the man. He was able to book us within a few days, which is great because we were pressed for time (The house is our first, is a short sale, has taken forever to process and our wedding’s coming up in a few weeks and we’re really feeling the crunch to close.)
He was very punctual, professional and pleasant to work with. We walked through the inspection together and he explained everything as we went and explained all the potential short– and long-​term consequences. He was extremely knowledgeable and methodical and double-​checked many things over the course of the inspection. Our realtor has a background in contracting and was very impressed with how thorough he was and his attention to detail. I have no doubt that we got a top-​notch inspection. The whole process took about 2.5 hours for 2200 sq. ft.
The PDF report that we got the next day was excellent, full of photos and room-​by-​room recommendations for any issues that could/​should be considered and their priorities. Devin was a cornucopia of good advice regarding everything «house» in general, and the binder that we got with the inspection is filled with great homeowners’ information, too. I would absolutely recommend Devin and Pillar to Post to anyone.

Our otherwise decent inspection was marred a year later when we discovered that our plumbing system (a) was not to code because it mixed drinking water with hydronic heating water and (b) used Kitec pipes, which have been widely known for years to be defective and are the subject of several class action lawsuits. We only discovered this after the neighboring townhouse with an identical system was sold and went through its own inspection, and our new neighbors were kind enough to share their report with us. We paid a plumber $ 2300 to rebuild the system to code and remove the Kitec pipes — which we could have negotiated from the seller if it had been in our inspection report. The incorrect piping and Kitec labels were plainly visible in the garage where our inspector should have noted them.

Inspector David McPhee is not the brightest man around, he is lacking the very basic skills of a home inspector as well as communication skills. I don’t believe it was just a bad day for this guy. Though his walk-​thru inspection with me by his side was okay, he pointed out nothing I did not already see or know on an 85 year old home which I was purchasing. Okay, he did climb up on the roof without me and found a little missing mortar on the chimney. His inspection report was really where his downfall is. He made COUNTLESS errors right and left such as basic things like noting carpeting in a no-​carpeting home. This in particular was a major concern for me as insurance companies rate non-​carpeted homes as less of a liability and therefore carry less of a premium to insure. My insurance company also required a copy of this inspection report. After contacting the inspector about his numerous errors, he blamed them on «the template» he was using and he acknowledged his own errors, BUT he would not correct his own report because he’d be required to regain access to the house per his company guidelines! To top things off, in the packet given to me by the inspector, there was an evaluation survey, but there was no instructions of where to send the survey or an envelope to return it. Checking further with the company websites, there is no area to address issues about inspectors or inspections, plus again, no mailing address.
LESSON LEARNED: never, ever use a BIG, mass-​market company that subcontracts out to local inspectors/​franchise owners. Instead, use a local independent company, preferably a sole proprietor.

Mel did a fantastic job inspecting my new condo. He pointed out all problem areas and made special notes of weird features of the condo that I wouldn’t have even thought of as problems – he noted one light switch in the condo didn’t turn anything on OR off, for example. He took pictures of each of the problem areas noted in the report that were small enough that I might forget the problem by the time I move in (there were some cupboard shelves that drooped under the weight of too many mugs, for example). The inspection was professional, thorough, and, BEST of all CHEAP! Mel charged me $ 100 less than his competitors, and accepted personal check as payment. I’m so glad my realtor knew to hire Mel! I couldn’t be more pleased.

Was very happy with our inspector Devin. He was very thorough with the inspection and report. He explained everything was very prepared, and professional. Pillar to Post takes pride in their work and does produces quality results. I would recommend Pillar to Post to anyone looking for a top notch inspector!

I have hired Brendon many times for all types of home /​condo inspection. The clients are very pleased with extent of his reports.
The only scenario I would not consider Pillar To Post would be aggressive fixers or special cases. For those, we need grimy specialists who don’t mind wading in pools of dark water or caves.
Oh yes, those type of homes exist! Otherwise, Brendan is our choice.
