Elite Event @ Emerald City Beer Company

What can I say that hasn’t already been said?
This event was awesome! Great food, great beer and wine, and great people!

Theo Chocolates, this was the first time we met but it definitely won’t be the last. Amazingly good!!! Especially the curry chocolate.
Calf and Kid was some amazingly good cheese, I hope I can find it at the store!

A nice laid-​back event at a new Sea-​Town brewery? Perrrfect.
I loved the cheesy bite contributions by Calf and Kid, the wine brought by the neighbor Bartholomew Wine (also new), the always tasty Theo Chocolate samples and the AMAZING baked goods that some skilled-​in-​the-​art-​of-​baking Unilocalers created!!!
I wasn’t much in a beer mood and neither option was really my style (I prefer wheat beers), so sadly I can’t really comment on the Emerald City Beer. What I *can* say is that these folks are super nice and apparently a-​m-​a-​z-​i-​n-​g cleaners! They’ve been having a lot of events lately and are able to keep their space in great clean shape. Kudos! (I also love the keg urinal in the bathroom. It’s unique at fits the space so well!)
Most memorable baked item was… the chocolate, peanut butter and bacon cupcake. I could only eat a couple tiny bites, but it sure made me think «Holy bake-​off this is ridiculously rich and amazing!»

Riddle me this: what in the world is better than a plethora of cheese, wine, beer & chocolate!!! And when they are all combined in one night?! Bliss.
Pure, mouth-​watering goodness.
So let’s start with the awesome location. I’ve never been to the Old Rainier Brewery, but the NEW and fabulous Emerald City Beer Brewery is light, bright, and very green. It seemed like a pretty humble venue, perfect for a smaller party of mingling crowds. This event I believe had over 100 people come and go periodically throughout the night, and it was never too crowded or too empty. And thank goodness for Katy’s beau’s Ipod too. The beats helped us keep warm through the cold wintry night.
Alright. Now I’m not a huge beer drinker. I mean a growler here and there and a shot of whiskey to sip on there, yes please! But only on those rare occasions. I must say that Dotty’s Seattle Lager is über delicious and I’ve been a fan since I met the man behind the brewery. It really captures a unique taste of hoppy delightfulness. I would recommend to any avid lager drinker to try it.
On to the cheese. Calf and the Kid has been on my to-​do list since I moved to the hill. Fortunately they happened to be a sponsor at this Elite Event and I got to taste one of their amazing cheeses. Nutty, bold, flavorful, and rich, this cheese was so good I came back for many many more samples…
The wine from Bartholomew Winery was absolutely amazing!!! Meeting Bart was awesome too. He really knows his wine. And the fabulous samples he gave were from an amazing year. I also like how he had handouts about the exact content of the wines in percentages. That’s the kind of personal touch that really makes me admire the local wineries around Washington.
And last but certainly not least was the CHOCOLATE! Oh my goodness if I could die with a pound of chocolate from Theo’s I would go to cocoa heaven. I think that chocolate in general, is hard to create to a flavor that pleases everybody. That’s why I really appreciate how many robust and unique flavors that Theo’s provides. Plus they usually have amazing local artists that create their unique wrappers for the chocolate bars which adds a quaint touch to their company. Theo. You are my hero.
And the best part of this event was the Unilocalers of course! So many die-​hard fans of the company and of course Katy H that continuously goes above and beyond her duties to just make sure that Unilocalers have an amazing night.
Plus the COOK OFF was just absolutely amazing! So many people had such great dishes to share it was a tough competition! So glad it was up to the Unilocalers to judge!
In conclusion, this Event made my Elite dreams live on, and I am forever thankful for all the work that goes into these shindigs. Thank you KATY and thank you THEO CHOCOLATES, CALF AND THE KID, EMERALD CITY BREWING, & BARTHOLOMEW WINERY!
When’s the next Elite Event again!!! ;)

Great event! Emerald City is a brewery to keep your eye on, they served two good, well crafted, broad appeal beers at this event, with my favorite being the Maple Brown, which I’d try again in a retail setting. One of the brewmasters gave me a quick tour of their small facility (they’re sort of halfway between hobbyist level and full production brewery at this stage, with larger batches handled at Odin’s facilities) including a peek into the building’s past with a secret door that revealed one of the old Rainer Brewery tanks. So cool! And fellas: the «Men’s facility» in the restroom is made out of half of an old metal brewing keg, which is probably the coolest… uh…“bathroom fixture” I’ve ever used.
The Theo Chocolate was awesome as always and the bake-​off was a great idea, with several Elites bringing really well prepared goodies.

Another super-​fun time hanging out with the elites again. Very good for mingling and great conversation.
I thoroughly enjoyed the small batch Maple Brown Ale beer. Also, there were so many tasty treats to try as well. I really liked the Theo’s spicy chocolate– damn that was good.

Brewery events are the best! I haven’t been out to a Unilocal party in a while but when I saw that last night’s shindig was to be held at the newest brewery on the block I had to pull some strings with my schedule to make an appearance. SO glad I did!
Steve from ECB was nice enough to give me a personal tour of the super-​cool operation. I got to sample delicious beer, delicious cheese and delicious cheese dip? It was the only food that was left by the time I got there but I ate some with pop chips. Yum!
I didn’t mind that the space was chilly — I’d rather wear my coat than hold it awkwardly all night but once again, the event was just LOUD. There were already a lot of people in an acoustically undesirable space trying to talk to one another — was the thumping music really necessary? I ducked out a little early when I got tired of yelling to be heard.
Vocal cord trauma aside, I really enjoyed last night’s event. Thanks to everyone who made it happen!

What a fun night last night!!!
This was only my 2^nd Elite event, and the first one that was Elite’s only. Nice small place perfect for bumping into new people and striking up a conversation! The place was a little cold, but all the people were warm and friendly!
Great snacks provided by everyone. I seriously wish I didn’t have dinner before coming here because I was too full too quick to try everything, but both the mac & cheeses were ~incredible~.
Thanks to the guys from Emerald City beers for hosting & giving away free brew! I hope next time I have your maple brown it wont be as flat! (I was also a little surprised at how small of an operation it was there, but still nifty nonetheless!) The guy from Theo chocolate was also super nice and gave nice pairing recommendation for the beer you were drinking. Calf & the Kid cheese was YUMMAH!!! And the wine was tasty too.
So another thanks to Katy for such a fun event!

Elite event in a Brewery! I think brewery events are my favorite. They are small, kinda coldish, not much to look at so the focus is for the great people and great drinks to shine on their own! Which they did!
Emerald City pours some solid brew, and I enjoyed meeting the friendly staff! I liked the Maple Brown the best, and would love to try their pumpkin and other flavors sometime. With a close location in SODO Rainier Building we will be back to fill our growlers for sure! The Theo chocolate chili choc bar is my favorite and went well with beer. Now I want to go on the Theo tour soon!
It was fun to mingle with the fellow Unilocalers. I met so many new people this time and had a great time. Add a baking contest to the mix and wow! We have some very talented chefs out there!
My favorites for sure were 2 different mac and cheeses. Both the Crab and the Wisconsin w/​beer! All tasted like Heaven, only when you bake with panko and cheese do you get the crunchy goodness on top! Yum.
The Car Bomb cupcakes were the BOMB! I want more! Truly All the food looked really great and it was all creative. bacon on a cupcake. really? yes really. haha if you missed. you really missed out!

After a very busy fall season I figured it was a good time to join the crowd for an event. The Emerald City Beer Company event was just the right one. It started with plenty of new faces (hi Patrick and Amy!), and my favorite familiar faces all in one place. Add EC Beer, Calf and Kid Cheese, Theo chocolate and a few decadent, liquored-​up snacks from our Unilocal chefs, and you have a great recipe for a fun night. The venue was a little chilly — I didn’t take my coat off all night. But in the service of some excellent brews and warm company, it was worth a little shiver.

This was another one of my favorite elite events. I liked that it was smaller and only Elites. I got to meet so many new people this way and we had such great conversations. Some of the events are just too big and it’s hard to connect with new people. But this one was cozy and just the right size!
Loved the cooking contest! Great idea, Katy! 5 Cheese Wisconsin Mac n Cheese was incredible! So was the triple chocolate peanut butter bacon cupcake!
Loved the cheese, learned all about Theo chocolate and Bartholomew Wines. Going to come back and check out the winery for a wine tweet-​up in a few weeks. And Emerald City Beer was a great venue with lots of parking. Pop Chips was there too although they didn’t have my favorite flavors. I really like the Old Rainier Brewery! It’s such a historic landmark!

Beer + wine + cheese + chocolate + Unilocal = I have died and gone to heaven.
No, seriously — a manageably sized event so I could actually catch up with some Unilocal friends and chat with some new ones, plus good booze tasting (we left with a growler of that yummy maple brown ale), cheese and Theo chocolate. Top it off with some pretty good stuff made by other Unilocalers (color me impressed that someone managed to get almost all the ingredients into a single dish).
I’ve driven by this place a zillion times on the way to work and even seen the signs for beer + wine tastings, but never made the time to go. I’ll definitely make a plan to go back and check out both Emerald City Beer and Bartholomew Wines another time.
And I can’t end the review without the required and well deserved shout-​out to our hostess with the mostess Katy H for putting on another great event and keeping everything flowing. How she manages to keep finding new and different places and events to throw is beyond me — but I’m grateful.
