Elite Event @ Intiman Theatre

When my friend got tickets for this and asked me to go with him I screamed! Othello was brilliant! The actors dominate the stage with their body language and long and powerful, loud, mouth spitting monologues. I fell in love with it the minute they stood on stage. I was captivated each moment and did not want to stop looking at the stage. The intermission seemed like forever because I wanted to see the end. It is a story that connected to me so very deeply. I feel that I like the moor have been deceived by people I trusted and I have made terrible mistakes based on assumptions by listening to my emotions rather than reason. Bravo!!! Seattle brings the best shows!

The reception before the play was great. The representatives from Elemental Importers were very knowledgeable and I had an enlightening chat with them about the different ways the wines are aged. The wines themselves were fabulous; normally I’m not partial to reds but the Malbec was assertive enough to catch my attention. It would be perfect with a rib-​eye steak.
The performance was amazing! The actor who played Iago convinced me the character was an insane sociopath. He really took it away! The only downside to the whole event was that the seating is not the best for taller people. By the intermission my sore knees were glad for the chance to stand and stretch. A small price to pay for such wonderful entertainment!

A crime of passion over a handkerchief? That is how I would sum up Shakespeare’s Othello. I did not know what to expect since the only reference to this play that I had was from the movie «O» which is really loosely based on the original material.
The play was nearly 3 hours long, but went by relatively quickly considering this. While the dialogue is a little haute for me (its Shakespearean), I was able to discern the overall message. Kind of like watching a Korean TV drama actually. You tell what is going on through body language mostly.
Prior to the play, there was a wine tasting run by Elemental Importers. I tried the chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon from Argentina. I am not generally a wine drinker, but I liked the chardonnay and got a bottle to go which I picked up right after the play which was cool. There was also some chocolates from Landrin which were very tasty. Liked the chocolate and nut combination, which were reminiscent of the macadamia nut chocolates of Hawaii.
Overall, I loved this event and it made for an awesome Wednesday evening in Seattle.

What’s better than going to the theater in the summer? Going to the Unilocal event at the theater complete with awesome seats, free purse chocolate and wine!
It was really a nice evening, and the production was great! At one point the audience was so riveted you could have heard a pin drop — and it was sold out!

The Intiman was very intimate; i bet there isn’t a bad seat in the theatre. Next time I would sit a few rows further back though. The stage was raised about 3ft, and I felt like I was looking up at the actors and a little too close. You might not be able to see all the spittle too! Sean Patrick Thomas was awesome as Othello. I keep thinking about the story — tragic.
The Landrin chocolates were heavenly, especially with the wine provided by Elemental Importers. I bought 2 bottles of the cab wine. I’ve never tasted such good cab. It was all very exciting. I felt special!

I loved seeing some new faces at the reception by the fountain! Of course the Lindor chocolates were once again delicious and the folks of Elemental Importers were very generous with the wine pours. We ended up taking advantage of the special Unilocaler Deal they had going and took a couple bottles of the Malbec home with us. One bottle down, one to go…
What else, what else? I enjoyed the show, but my boyfriend was tired (or sore? or both?) and I was super hungry, so we ended up getting some dinner instead of coming back after intermission. A couple of our friends that bought tickets for that night stayed and were very happy with their experience.
Big lesson learned: Make sure boyfriend does not mix up tickets with friend and then proceed to forget his turned-​on phone under the friends seat when they swap. We realized this happened about a second before the lights dimmed, and felt pretty bad when it started ringing during the show (and our friend had no clue but got yelled at by an usher or someone next to him)…

«Your daughter and the Moor are now making the beast with two backs.” – Iago, Othello.
Apparently, Shakespeare was referring to the Unilocaling beast because this event brought me to a happy, fulfilled state! Front row seats to a show that was consistently selling out in NY! Sean Patrick Thomas’ performance was captivating; he’s an amazing, charismatic Othello. Think Djimon Hounsou. John Campion’s performance of Iago was also stunning as well; evil, but, oddly humorous at times. Elisabeth Waterston’s performance as Desmona really took off in the second half of the play, and I enjoyed the touches of the music by Lucas Steele. Lies, jealousy, revenge, humor.
I’d recommend this play to anyone, and the wine tasting beforehand was also amazing.

As a sophomore in high school we read Othello… the cartoon version that is. Seriously, the cartoon version. I like cartoons… it makes reading Shakespeare funner.
While there wasn’t a cartoon in sight at the Elite Event, it was most enjoyable and Shakespeare was fun even! The wine tasting courtesy of Element was awesome… Argentina has some great wines and I’m always excited to try them. The chocolates and strawberries were perfection. There was cheese??? Where!!! There will be more in the future =)
The production was enjoyable. It’s very rare I have the time and opportunity to go to the theater so I was happy I could go. Getting into the Shakespeare jist took a while, but once I got used to all the crazy lingo and phrasing I was immersed! Our seats were great (although the size of the theater probably ensures all seats are!) and as already mentioned, the actors were inches from the audience! Fun.
I love the variety of events that Katie puts together. One event is beer tasting and hot dogs, the next is seafood and cocktails and now theater and wine. Always something new and exciting. Gracias Katie!!! Can’t wait for the next one.

Someone’s gotta say it — the Intiman Theatre event was … intimate! We were the handful of lucky (& super eager) Unilocalers who were poised over their mouse clicker at exactly at 11:59 a.m. on the RSVP date. I wish I had time to mix and mingle more before the show but I believe everyone was too busy stuffing our faces with yummy chocolates, cheeses and wine. And oh yes, I too, snuck in chocolates for the show. What’s Shakespeare without chocolate? (Which brings up the question … what’s Shakespeare with chocolate?)
The theatre itself is lovely and here comes that «intimate» part again — all the Unilocalers grabbed prime seats to the right section of the audience and my friend & I were in the front row. Do you know what the front row means? That means I can see every glistening bead of sweat on Othello’s face, that my shoe almost got knocked off by a actress rushing to the stage in her heavy gown and that I truly wanted to weep along with the poor Cassio who’s drunkenness has gotten him into major trouble. Now THAT’S theater! No barriers & no vaulted unreachable stages.

Wow, I didn’t realize how truly limited this event was. There were probably only 20 elites and their guests, and we were treated right! Wine tasting (and a screaming deal on a bottle of delicious red!), cheese and chocolates (a few of which may have made it home in my purse, the sneaky buggers).
The show was amazing, once my peabrain caught on to the different language style. Such a great venue, and we were close enough to get misted by spittle straight from the actors’ mouths!

I feel bad… really bad because we arrived so late — only 5 – 10 minutes before the play started. We nearly missed the event altogether. Why? The I-​90 was so backed up, that we almost turned back to Issaquah.
I’m glad we didn’t though. It was a great event, thanks Katie! We sadly missed the wine, cheese and fruit, but we did manage to try the chocolates.
The play was really good — we both enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and because of this event, we would most likely visit the Intiman Theatre again.
