History

Established in 2008.

Emerald City Orchids was established in the Summer of 2008 as a wholesale business, catering to the best floral professionals in the Puget Sound area. In March of 2010, our doors opened to the public. Business continues to grow and we have moved recently to Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood to accommodate the wholesale floral industry customers. Come check out our new space!

Business Owner

Joe started in the orchid business working for a small company called Baron’s Orchids in Morro Bay, CA. After working there for a time, he returned to Seattle to establish Emerald City Orchids in 2008. He lives in Seattle with his wonderful wife Michelle and his little dog Arty.

Let me say that my experience with Emerald City Orchids was an amazing pleasure.
I was out of town for Christmas and needed an orchid delivered to my girlfriend. She was working at a hospital in Seattle on Christmas Eve. The owner, Joe, offered to hand-​deliver, despite it being the holiday evening, which was above and beyond my expectations as well as his duty. The flower was beautiful, the price was impressive and the service was incredible. He won my business for the future. I highly recommend them.

Went to a sweet Diorama party here! The experience was affordable the atmosphere and plants are awesome and the staff was very friendly and helpful!
They also do delivery of orders which is cool.

What a great experience! The guys who work at Emerald City Orchids are super knowledgeable and also super nice! I went there twice and they answered all of my questions. I left their store with more knowledge and confidence. I have followed their advice and my orchids are doing great!
The store is filled with beautiful orchids from all over as well as really cool pots. I can’t wait to go back and get myself another orchid and maybe even a chai since its also a café. :)

I haven’t made it to the Ballard shop but am definitely going to put it on my to do list. Today I happened to go to an orchid sale at Swanson’s nursery. One of the displays was by «Emerald City Orchids». I was looking at a couple of plants when I noticed one of the guys working on the display was the same guy that gave a talk about orchids a couple weeks ago at Wight’s nursery. I went up to him and said hello. Told him I had attended his talk at Wights. He remembered me, was very friendly and made sure I knew how to take care of the two orchids I had picked out. He told me about their new location and I can’t wait to go check it out!
So far everyone, from Emerald City Orchids, that I have had contact with has been super nice and willing to answer any questions you might have!

best place to get orchids in the city, they have different varieties of orchids from Hawaii and Thailand, the best place on the planet. Last time I went in there the cute guy won’t sell the orchids for me because they are too old and give them to me for free. He is such a sweet heart.

This shop is fantastic. The staff are super-​knowledgeable, the plants seemed reasonably priced, and they’re willing to help track down rare species to make sure you get a healthy happy orchid to your liking. Plus, the buzz is they might convert to a more get-​togethery kind of space with room for orchid lovers to enjoy coffee, etc. Love it!

I haven’t had a chance to visit their Ballard location, but I did visit their booth at the 2011 NW Flower & Garden Show and was blown away! They were so friendly and helpful, and provided me with plenty of instruction. I bought my very first orchid from them and it’s beautiful. Highly recommend!!!
