They have a great selection and are super convenient if you are anywhere near 1^st and Pike. Not only were they willing to hold a copy of a magazine for me — when they realized that I overpaid they chased me down to give me my money back! These are good people — give them your business.

The selection of magazines is decent, but you can do far better at Barnes and Noble.
The selection of domestic newspapers is quite limited — I’m not even sure if there was The Washington Post. If it’s The Seattle Times you’re looking for — you can get it at Starbucks!
There are a few foreign newspapers but these are more novelties for the vast majority of people. Perhaps foreign travellers would enjoy picking them up? This is Pike Place Market, the tourist destination, after all.
This is not even a store. It’s an open-​air stand abutted against other Pike Place vendors. The magazine aisle is so cramped that only one person can fit in there. Good luck browsing!
More problematically, I didn’t have a pleasant service experience. I asked the owner if they carried the Sunday New York Times on Saturday (the advance edition). The owner said they did. on Sunday morning. Well of course. I could have figured that out. He didn’t seem to be joking; there was no humor in his voice. That annoyed me. I have no reason to come back here.

I live in Los Angeles, and I just called First & Pike News because I am looking for a copy of German Vogue for my friend who lives in Seattle. The store staff member who helped me over the phone was very friendly and resourceful with the information that I was looking for. I will call again if I need something in Seattle, and I will visit the actual store during my next trip to the Pacific Northwest!

Once upon a time, we used to get our news from print. We could get the newspaper in the morning (PI) or the evening (Times). And we’d buy magazines to read and then plaster our lockers, walls, or cubicle with pictures. Thanks to the internet though… Today’s generation don’t buy magazines as much, and we all just read the paper on our tablet. And more and more newsstands are closing up, and the places that do carry newspapers and magazines don’t have the biggest of selections.
Thankfully we have this place. To be honest, I only buy one magazine and that’s Empire. It’s a British mag, and is not the easiest to find. I could wait for Barnes and Noble to get it, but since we’re across the pond… It’s old. First and Pike (AKA Read All About It) gets the latest issue and it’s worth the $ 9.99 for me. They have newspapers from all over the state, and from other places around the country as well as other countries. They have magazines that you’ve heard of, ones you forgot existed, ones you’ve never heard of, ones that are very niche, and even foreign magazines. Oh, and naked lady magazines too… But don’t worry parents, they’re at the very top and covered. The back half is a little tight. I can’t afford the luxury of flipping through Empire to see how awesome it will be without getting bumped having to hug the racks as someone tries to pass by. And sometimes the employee will be talking to a Market regular and when I am buying something, I feel like I’m inconveniencing them by interrupting their conversation to give them money. And sometimes I wish I could meet a woman while pursuing the magazines like in Singles… And yes I know that that is not the same location as in the movie

Love this place! I remember coming here in High School to buy European newspapers and magazines. Daughter had to have some rock-​n-​roll magazine that we couldn’t find anywhere and we were driving by and I said — let’s see if we can find a parking spot (we did right around the corner on the brick drive — our lucky day…). We found the magazine «Revolver» paid and we were back on our way to Bumbershoot!

First & Pike is a throwback to another era, both in terms of periodicals and what Pike Place Market represented back in the day. When I was a young girl the stand was called «Read All About It» and you’d have someone still standing on the corner with a stack of papers to hawk on the corner. They kept that tradition going for a very long time past its prime… very cool.
Gone are the days where one would come here and see racks of tens of different international newspapers from Dubai, Spain, Japan, and every major city in the world. The internet has made the need for this sadly obsolete.
But one must not discount this stand. Sure, on a nostalgic level and even an aesthetic one, you could argue for the existence of this stand; but on a practical level it still holds its own as a purveyor of international periodicals.
First & Pike is still the best place in town to find specialized publications from all around the world: gossip rags from England and other countries, design and architecture mags, a wide variety of sports — they’d have rugby and football (the Beautiful Game) papers here long before they were played here so widely, and — most of all — fashion rags from everywhere that matters. This used to be one of the only places to find the designer collection summaries each season.
Really a great place to bring children to explain how news was disseminated before the web.
If you love magazines — please stop and buy a rag. Like most places related to print media, they are struggling. And First & Pike hasn’t resorted to carrying snacks, coffee or other stuff (besides some postcards) to make ends meet. Locally owned for its whole existence, it’s a small business that deserves our affection and respect.

Great place to get magazines that you can’t find anywhere else. I go there almost everyday and never run out of things to buy and read.

I went here back in 2006, and it was great going through newspaper after newspaper from Philadephila, Boise, Tulsa, Nashville, etc. Would have gave it 5 stars.
Now, it’s 2010, and the newspaper selection is so small now there’s only papers (other than the New York Times) only on the West Coast. I did pick up a Great Falls, MT paper for kicks. Not a good newspaper stand now.

So many magazines! I might bring some back to USC next summer with me.
At one place, they charge $ 1.20 for 5 postcards. I bought 5, then walked across the street to this place and found out that they were selling them 5 for a dollar, and I also didn’t have to pay tax. Wow, not to mention greater selection.

Great selection of print news and entertainment from all over the world.
Italian fashion magazines? Yup.
British art journals? Sure.
Russian newspapers? Check.
German tabloids? Absolutely.
University Press literary journals? Of course.
I could spend hours here.

Take a bus to downtown, browse the market, get a few international newspapers. OMG things are happening inother countries noonwe tells you about!!! YES and you can read about it here!
take the papers to one of many places for coffee and sit and read! You are enlightened NOW. Restrain yourself. don’t run into the street to enlighten others yelling.” Do you know what happened inXXXX?” Everyoen gets their enlightenment in their own time.
When finished with your international news, recycle it. bring it to a fremont or Cap Hill coffee place and leave it nicely for another to read.

This place is an international readers delight! One can find everything from Czech readings to UK readings. It is very well organized and if you are having a hard time finding what you are looking for the guys working the stand are more then happy to help you out, just ask.

A street version of Bulldog News. You will have quite an abundance of choices here. News papers and magazines from all around the world, plus calendars and postcards. As far as I can tell the owner doesn’t mind browsers…
