Specialties

The Friends of The Seattle Public Library operates the FriendShop on Level 3 of the Central Library near the 5^th Avenue entrance. The FriendShop offers a delightful collection of gifts including original work by over 75 Northwest artists. You’ll find jewelry, cards and books as well as distinctive merchandise with images from the striking architecture of the Central Library. The shop features a new local artist on the first Thursday of every month.

All proceeds benefit The Seattle Public Library.

I WANT to like the Friendshop… but it seems like they don’t have a clear buying strategy. While some things are excellent gifts for book lovers, most of the items they sell are random tchotchkies a la most tourist shops in the Pike Place Market… it’s just not satisfying, and anyhow, prices are better where at the tourists go.
If they were able to differentiate themselves as
a) a book store
b) a place to get gifts for book lovers
c) a place to buy cute accessories
d) a place to get holiday goods
e) a place to get crafts goods
f) a place to buy stationary
g) a place to buy more than I care to type
… are you starting to see the problem? They are trying to do too much, in too small a space.
Pick just two! Then do those two really well! And I’d love to support the library by buying stuff… but I could get all this junk at the pike place market, or even Amazon, cheaper.

All proceeds benefit the Seattle Public Libraries! This shop is located inside the library on the 3^rd floor by the coffee stand.
Many local artists have things for sale there including Cakespy, many jewelry artists, Shannon Martin, etc.
I don’t buy many greeting cards because I usually prefer to make my own but there are really cleaver, sweet, and unique greeting cards for sale at this shop!
They rotate their stock for the season and so always have new exciting things there.
Don’t miss their sale shelf in the back, «Reading is sexy» stickers, cute library reading rubber ducks, and $ 1 reusable grocery bags!

Located on Level 3 of the Seattle Public library is a small retail shop operated by the Friends of The Seattle Public Library. It’s a homage to the volunteers and supporters of the library and contains jewelery, cards, books and merchandise. Im not really into that type of stuff, but one of us had to check out all the holiday related wares they were hocking.
