Funky Jane’s

I’ve been thinking about stepping into this store for the three years I’ve lived in West Seattle. I finally did last night. There were only two patrons in the store, another woman and me; yet the woman working did not greet me. I find that unacceptable.
Plus, there isn’t a great selection.

On one hand, I really liked this store, on the other hand, I had some issues with it.
First off the store is a bit dark on the left side. It needs additional lighting. The dressing rooms are a bit small and close with curtains, the curtains could be a bit wider and longer for privacy. The owner is friendly with regulars, but not really if you’re new or unknown.
Prices are very reasonable, I found a super cute linen top, with tax it came to right around $ 16.
One thing I found a little odd is that a store carrying Diane Von Furstenberg and Betsy Johnson would be stocking t-​shirts from Target as well. If I want a used t-​shirt from Target, I’ll stop by Goodwill or Value Village.

I tried to sell some clothes but it proved to be a major pain in the butt. They want you to call in the morning to make an appointment and the phone was busy all the time. The few times the call went through the salesperson couldn’t hear me and just hang up. I finally managed to talk to her and she listed tons of rules and how if I want to pick up my unsold items there is a fee they charge. It is the most unbelievable consignment deal I have heard of, and I’ve used all kinds of stores and online services to sell used clothes. It sounds like these people just want you to get rid off your clothes, instead sharing any profit with the seller. No wonder most of their items are old styles and pretty worn out, only the most desperate or people just trying to get rid of old stuff will try to consign with them.

I had an awesome meal at a local fish spot and decided to walk down and check out Funky Jane’s since I ADORE consignment/​resale shops and strongly support small businesses… How disappointing that not only was I never greeted or smiled at, an employee just excused herself to get by me and hang something on a rack :-/​Weird. I did get an ear-​full (she wasn’t talking directly to me of course) from the lady behind the register that she had a hair appointment she was thrilled about. I guess the regulars she was talking to are more important than a new face, which equals a new customer. Then to add insult to injury, another lady entered the store and that same employee who excused herself past me gives the warmest «Hello!!» from halfway across the store. WOW. I wonder what «Jane» would think of this, or if this is reflective OF her. Needless to say, I probably would not return to this place. I get better customer service on eBay. (Shaking my head)

I’ve only purchased a couple of things from here but I’ve consigned A LOT of clothes. Items are priced well so I always get a nice check for the items I drop off. The owner is a sweetheart and is always warm and welcoming when I come in. If you’re looking to consign your clothes, I definitely recommend checking out Funky Jane’s. Only downside is they don’t take drop-​ins to consign. You have to make an appointment the day of which means calling for approx 15 min straight trying to get past the busy signal.

Friendly staff. The stock is primarily mid-​range in quality. The «designer label» wear is very limited, and overpriced for what it is. Stick with the less-​known labels. You can find fun and funky items here. An overall good place to browse through — you might get lucky. Some of the items show too much wear to be in a consignment store, so shop carefully.

AWESOME selection, Awesome prices (especially on the sale rack), AWESOME employees and great consignment contract /​business practices. Very fair. I sell stuff there all the time and would buy more if only I lived closer and could visit every week!

This is a well organized consignment shop but I’m always disappointed seeing so many tops from Target that are priced too high. I also see way too many stained and worn out clothing here too. I wish they’d be more picky about what they resold.

This is a great consignment store located in the heart of West Seattle. Their stock rotates frequently and I have always been greeted by a friendly staff member with a smile and an offer to help me find anything I might be looking for. They have a nice selection of premium clothing with the current name brands that I find most appealing. Accessories are ample, more than the average consignment store of the same square footage. They also have a nice array of formal wear for when you may need a cocktail dress but don’t feel like paying the high cost of going to the mall.

Very very unfriendly system for consigning, the schedule (Tues-​Sat, 11 – 2 & can only take same-​day appointments) caters to housewives (or students I guess). I have just 6 pairs of super nice, hardly worn shoes people would kill for, but nobody at FJs will look at them because their «schedule is full» for the day. Since I actually work during the week Saturday is the only day I can fit into their ridiculous schedule but they’re impossible to get into on Saturdays (and I work Sat mornings, so don’t exactly have a ton of time to keep redialing the phone to get through hoping they aren’t booked up yet). My stuff is going elsewhere.

Not my first choice of consignment shops. Lighting is awful; mirrors not very good; clothing is often soiled, holes & tears. Staff attitude is not up to my standards as I don’t feel welcome. Like any consignment shop it’s better to stop by on a regular basis, however the above comments doesn’t encourage me to do so. Yes, I’ve found items infrequently & my daughter has better luck here. I didn’t realize Jane’s also has the tiny store in Many Moons where the selection seems to be cast offs from Funky store & prices are ridulous. Great jewelry. Apparently the owners don’t read or attend to these negative reviews, which leads me to believe they realy don’t care. Not impressed.

While not my favorite consignment store of all time (that, unfortunately, is located in wealthy Alpharetta, GA), Funky Janes is cool… I find something every time I go there. My finds are typically clothes for work (i.e. collared shirts, skirts, shoes) which is great because I would rather buy inexpensive cute work clothes and have money left for normal clothes.
I have also scored some awesome jeans from there for super cheap (I found out they are H&M’s after buying them, but they look great on me and are one of my fave pair!). I also got a nice white summer purse for like $ 9 from Express.
If you are into consignment stores, check out Funky Janes and you are bound to find something nice for a steal!

I’m probably the ideal customer for Funky Janes. I’m a female who lives in the Junction neighborhood, and has a pretty typical dress size for an American woman. Also, when I’m buying used clothes I don’t care about fabulous service. As long as people aren’t actively rude to me – which the folks at Jane’s aren’t… they’re mostly just neutral/​ignorey. Ignorey’s not a word, I know.
So no wonder I stop by every week, and buy nearly all my clothes from here. Some weeks I don’t find anything, but it’s worth it for the times I do.
Best deals: formal dresses. Just about every dress I’ve bought in the past 5 years comes from Funky Janes and was purchased for $ 12 – 29. I’ve outfitted myself for wedding after wedding, for parties and for book signings (first thing you discover as a female author: you can’t just wear the same dress to each event – they’re being photographed.)
As a seller: I found it pretty easy and low stress to consign with them, but I do live in the neighborhood. I can imagine it’d be a headache to make a same morning appointment if you lived further out.

This place is owned by the same people who own Many moons Trading Co. It is small and obviously has a very selective eye for purchasing. I was overall impressed with the selection and the prices.
The clothing was quite trendy and modern overall and the accesories were in very very good condition. The purses especially lovely and i was tempted by many of them.
The lady was nice, welcoming me in and letting me browse at my leisure. The only problem I had was that the lighting was overly dark. It was hard to see some fo the finer patterns and textures of their clothing. The beatles shirt in the window right now is awesome btw!

I have tried several times over the years to work with Funky Janes to consign very nice clothes and it’s the biggest pain in butt. They make it so much more difficult than it needs to be. DON’T BOTHER using them to sell, go some where else where the people are actually nice to you

As a shopper this place is ok. As a seller I want to say it’s awesome but their difficult to get into and sort of inconvenient if you don’t live in the immediate neighborhood due to the fact you have to make a same day, mid day appointment.
I like that they are a bit picky on what they take so that you know your getting quality and not total junk. I found some adorable pieces and sold some that I don’t wear anymore. I made decent cash for what I sold but am still not 100% because of the limitations. but I guess them being organized keeps the place running efficiently. I will have to give it another shot before I am convinced.
I do love their new location and that they do sell new stuff too. The staff will be very helpful and tell you what they honestly think and not just try to get you to purchase.
I can say this is where «the grown-​ups» can shop and not worry your getting the stuff like that teen consignment chain.

Great new location, higher quality apparel and very efficient sales help.
Looking forward to fall and winter selections.

Always seems for me to be catch as catch can or feast or famine, but I have found some INCREDIBLE and satisfying deals (mostly jeans, tops, and shoes) here during every season. Not always the friendliest service or most interested staff but, you know, some good deals can be found if you’re patient.

This consignment store takes the gold in three categories:
1. DEALS: This place has great deals on some excellent clothing. Most things are under $ 20, and there aren’t many places nowadays that you can find a Nine West, INC, Eddie Bauer or Chico’s top for under $ 25. Ahem… here, you can.
2. QUALITY: I’ve been frequenting this store now for about 2 years. I always find high quality clothing that is very clean, does not smell at all and is in great shape. The staff is reasonably very particular about what they accept for incoming clothing to be consigned, and it makes life a lot more fun to shop there.
3. SERVICE: The staff, I have found, is extremely helpful and friendly. They will give you solicited advice on how something looks and fits. They are also honest with regards to the amount owed if you are consigning, etc.
I would go here if you can, and draw your own conclusion. Definitely worth your time.

Maybe I just don’t have the right attitude about consignment stores. In my head, that means «thrift store,» so I expect things to be basically a bargain, or at least half of what you’d pay for it new. But somehow I don’t think Funky Jane’s sees it my way.
Okay, yes, they did have an awesome vintagey mod dress with matchy-​matchy pumps and bag on a mannequin when I went in, and I did see some cashmere sweaters for around $ 40. But you can find NEW cashmere sweaters for $ 40 these days (granted, at Old Navy, but still). Without stains, even.
I like that the items are sorted by color and then by size, so you can poke around if you have something specific in mind. I found a fairly cute sheer floral top, but with no labels and a $ 20 price tag, I didn’t like it enough to seal the deal. Ehhh.
There is a sale rack in the back, plus a jewelry case and a decent selection of handbags up front, and a designer rack with fancy-​pants labels that even I recognize. But nothing really jumped out at me or seemed like a particularly good deal. If I’m already at the Junction browsing around, I might stop in, but I wouldn’t make a special trip just for this store.
