Greenlake Wines & Wine Bar

Cute little shop, decent happy hour pours. They pour the wine into a measuring cup before putting it into the glass, which for some reason turned me off. Food was not bad — homemade bread with olive oil, hummus spread on pita, bacon quesadilla and olives. Recommend the hummus spread, the others were ok but not great.

I’m probably going to come here again — the man working there was nice and knowledgeable (and used the word «gorgeous» to describe wines), the tapas were solid, and the wine selection pretty good.
I don’t love the atmosphere, but I like it. I think it may earn 4 stars if I go again.

The owner is super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is subtle, but very relaxing and quite nice. The wine recommendations were palatable but far from the «gorgeous» description he gave us. I ordered a Chardonnay and my fiancée ordered a red.
The cheese board with the homemade bread was delicious. I would definitely come back since it is so conveniently located and a very nice experience, but I wouldn’t bring any wine snobs here.

Eh. Not really impressed. Wine too warm. Sparkling wine also basically flat. Food pretty good tho.

Love this place! Great deals on some quality wines! Richard is very friendly and the food is perfect for snacking while drinking the wine to taste.

Our experience:
1) Walk in. Look around. Looks cute.
2) Look at by-​the-​glass list. Looks supermarkety (i.e., Freixnet sparkling). Only local wine is Arbor Crest Riesling. Not feeling it. Proceed instead to pick a bottle from the wall (Doyenne Rousanne, $ 32 — no corkage for bottles over $ 20. Yippee!).
3) Present said bottle to server. Are told they don’t have it chilled. No biggy. Aren’t asked if he can chill it for us. Wait a beat and ask, «Well, can we put this on ice for a few minutes?» Told the place has no ice. Stare at each other blankly.
4) Return to wine wall. Choose a red (Nota Bene Dineen Vineyards 2008 blend, also $ 32). Proceed to sit at bar. Bottle is opened. Neither of us is given a taste but is instead immediately poured a full glass, the bottle rapping the rims of each glass several times.
5) Order «salumi» and «baconini» off menu. «Salumi» lists «house made bread.»
6) Receive 6 pieces of supermarket salami and corresponding 6 slices of supermarket baguette. Baconini consists of store-​bought tortilla with bacon and processed cheddar cheese served as a quesadilla.
7) Are never offered water. Have to ask for napkins and utensils.
8) After a glass each of Nota Bene and half-​heartedly trying the noshes, ask to have remainder of wine corked up, pay our bill and leave. Hustle to Taylor Shellfish Farms to fix our palettes.
This is Seattle, a great food and wine town. How this place has a 4.5-star average and survives here is beyond me. 1 star for a semi-​decent selection at decent prices. Everything else was an awkward fail. Avoid.

Greenlake Wines is one of my favorite Greenlake establishments. We first came when we moved into the neighborhood during the snowstorm in 2012.
Unsurprisingly, the place was empty since most people were probably stuck in their homes but this gave us a chance to chat with and get to know the owner, Richard. Richard is very knowledgeable about wines and we’ve learned quite a bit from him the few times we’ve spoken since. In fact, he introduced to us our now favorite winter dessert pairing: chocolate truffles while sipping on a shot of Madeira.
As for the food, I’ve enjoyed what I ordered the few times I’ve had more than just wine. Recently, I tried the Brie and mushroom panini — it was fantastic! I love Brie and I love mushrooms; I never thought to stick ‘em together between bread. Speaking of bread, Richard makes them in house and are pretty darn good. I’ve recently started baking myself and he’s given me some great tips on that as well.
On Thursdays, they have wine tasting for $ 5. There’s usually a theme each week and they bring in an experienced sommelier ho specializes in the theme to educate patrons on the featured wines of that night’s tasting. I’ve only been once — for a Malbec tasting — and thought the host was very friendly, knowledgable about Malbecs and quite happy to share what she knows. In fact, every employee or host I’ve encountered at Greenlake have been quite welcoming and extremely helpful when suggesting wines either for myself or as gifts.
Greenlake have a few small tables if you prefer not to sit at the bar. I’ve never seen it extremely busy, but I only go during the weekdays. I love that quiet atmosphere though. It makes the place feel more intimate. There is also quite a large selection of wines that take up a good half of the space. Come here if you want to bing wine as a gift!
I regret I can’t be a regular at this place due to current limited funds by nature of grad student life, but you best be sure I visit as much as I can!

I was SO impressed with this place the first time i visited. My friend and I randomly stumbled upon this place walking home one night — a little too late for HH, but good to know they have one. It’s a pretty small space with only a few tables but they also have a bar set up so that’s where we chose to post up. The owner, sorry forgot his name — is very helpful and knowledgeable, he knows his wine! We picked his brain the entire time we were there and he didn’t act annoyed, but was happy to teach us a little something about wine tasting while we were there. I highly recommend the Qualcida Creek flight — for only 15 $ that’s a steal considering how much this wine goes for, multiple hundreds of dollars. They also have quite the selection of wine to buy, and great discount prices — skip the grocery and give this place a look over.
We didn’t get the chance to order any food but i can’t wait to go back and have some cheese with copious amounts of wine!

Stopped by here for some wine and tasty bites and boy were we impressed. The owner is super friendly and welcoming. Not only did we get great wine and treats, but we learned a lot about the wine too. Make sure to try the homemade hummus– delicious!
Along with a bar and food, Richard also has a carefully curated selection of bottles for purchase. We ended up buying two bottles of wine we had tasted– both were very reasonably priced.
We will most definitely be back and bring friends next time!

What a nice little gem off the beaten path in Green Lake.
I used the Unilocal app to find a wine bar after my running partner said she was in the mood for a glass of wine after our time at the lake.
We found Greenlake Wines and Wine Bar which seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
The shop is minimal but cozy with a bar and several two tops. Bottles of wine are arranged throughout the space for sale.
The chairs are very comfortable which I noticed right away. I could definitely see myself spending more time here sipping and chatting.
I am not very knowledgeable about wine but they seemed to have a lot of imports with the lowest price point being around $ 15 and on up. I only recognized two labels in the whole shop.
I had a Chianti ($ 8.75/glass) and my friend had a Pinot Noir ($ 10) which she loved.
I thought my wine was okay. I would probably order a different one next time.
We enjoyed our time here and appreciated the quiet atmosphere and relaxed vibe. The man helping us was very nice.
They serve small plates as well but we didn’t have any food.
I’d come back for a glass of wine when in the area for sure.

A friend and I were looking for a place to wine taste. We tried in vain to find a place and stumbled across this place.
It first gets props for being open before 5. It was very quaint and comfortable inside. The owner was very informative and helpful. We liked all the wines we had and enjoyed some snacks. The cremini panini is fantastic along with any wine. The fun part was many of the wines he had open were not on the list of wines, so we got to try some really great wines.
Looking for a nice way to unwind or have a burning wine question? This is the perfect place for you!
Left with definite reason to come back!

This is a very cute wine shop. It’s got lots of great things going for it. Location, plenty of street parking, (there’s even a small lot in the back) and a good selection of wines. The owner is a very nice man to chat with as when I was there the place was empty during the entire time of our visit.
A lot of the foods are hand made by the owner himself, which I find pretty amazing. He makes his own hummus and breads too.
We were there for happy hour and while I found the portion sizes to be a bit on the small size even for the reduced cost, every thing was quite tasty.
We got 3 food items to share, the hummus and pita, the baconini (which is basically a quesadilla with bacon and cheese), and the ghetto slider (spam slice and lettuce on a small toasted bun).

A fun little wine bar! Came here for Happy Hour at 5, felt very welcomed. For HH you get a few wines, the ghetto slider, and a couple paninis for $ 4 each. Great place to meet up with a few pals and try out different wines then enjoy some bites. On Thursday evenings they’re also doing a tasting of about 5 different wines for $ 5.
The «Ghetto Slider» was my favorite food item, I could have had 4 of them. They taste like spam, which I love the flavor of, and the cabbage and bread were delightful. The menu says not to ask exactly what’s in it, so I didn’t (which makes me think it might really be spam??). Unfortunately all portions are a bit small, so I’d recommend not coming here with a big appetite. The mushroom/​brie panini is great too, very crunchy and the brie and mushroom flavor combo is fantastic. but there was something missing. we recommended they served soup with it because it would be perfect dipped in some soup.

North Seattle is greatly overlooked for some good specialty wine bars, but nonetheless I’m glad this place stays small on the map and relatively located in my hood.
Put yourself in the company of its fabulous owner and a sturdy array of local and international wines. This place also has a secret, and that is most wines are all marked 10−20% down. Allowing you to splurge on that fabulous syrah or port. The owner owns 3 other local stores and makes all the food on the menu (its a pretty simple menu) with all your tapas basics to pair. I truly enjoyed his attentiveness in helping us to choose a wine and at the very least a learn a new curve to appreciate the wine we choose.

Since my first sit-​down here with a galpal, I’ve been here for wine several times. The proprieter and staff are helpful and quick to recommend the perfect wine.
As a sit-​down, the small plates are decent. Salumi and bread are nothing to write home about. Dry, boring, kind of flavorless. The housemade pita AND hummus are amazing, though. Served like a mini pizza and sprinkled with lemon zest and yummy paprika. They also offer some larger samplings, so you can almost make an evening of it just here.
If you only have 3 of the wines on happy hour available (they don’t open a new bottle, which is kind of a crappy rule IMO), please don’t make me run through the entire list. Just tell me what I can have and save me the trouble.
I’m realizing if I split this review, the sit-​down experience would get a 3 and the recommends and take away wine would get a 4. I’ll come back on a Thursday night when a winemaker is in and update.

I’ve driven past this place so many times always telling myself, «I’ll have to try out that place one day» and I’m so happy I finally did.
I scheduled a date with some ladies for the Thursday free wine tasting and happy hour. I got there promptly at 5pm and grabbed a seat. I’m glad I got there right as happy hour started — by the time 6pm rolled around, all the seats were taken. The place is small with limited seating so make sure to get there early if you plan on doing the wine tasting.
I ordered the cheese plate to go with all the wine I tasted. It’s three different cheeses offered with homemade bread. The homemade bread was soft and delicious and the cheeses were all so good. I also ordered the cremini panini… the gooey warm brie, the earthiness of the cremini mushrooms and the buttery goodness of the toasted bread was out of this world.
They also carry an abundance of wines for you to buy and take home…
This just may be my new Thursday hang out joint after work before I head home to do my motherly duties.

Great Little place. On the night I was there they were super busy. It was a Thursday night so there was free wine tasting, plus a large wine club was meeting there too. Everyone behind the bar was calm and nice, and still took the time to explain every wine we ordered in detail. We had a couple of small plates (smoking deal during happy hour, and reasonable priced all other times) and they were very good.
Because it was so crowded, I didn’t really get a chance to check out the full bottles for sale. So I’ll have to go back soon and do that. Very soon.

Friendly and Intimate place for small bites and great tastes. I was impressed with the large selection of very affordable wines.

Super cute little spot with reasonably-​priced tastes & full glasses of wine, as well as some small appetizers. There is a bar and a few small tables if you want to hang out. Or you can simply walk in to peruse & purchase wines by the bottle, on display on the other side of the space.
Owned by the same person who brought us Wine Outlet (Interbay & Sodo locations), this space is smaller & cozier, and offers a subset of the wines you’ll find at his other stores.
Like the folks I’ve met at his other locations, the woman I met during my visit was a friendly wine lover who was easy to talk to & knowledgeable, without being snobby or overbearing.
I can see this becoming a great little neighborhood hang-​out (wish it would have been here when we lived up the street years ago!)…all they need next door is a gourmet meat & cheese shop!
It is a great little spot to meet a friend, have a glass or two & catch up on life… then buy a few bottles for home on the way out!

First Impressions mean a lot and this place has won me over!
I have been anxiously awaiting for this establishment to open and to my utter delight, I walked by last night and a bright OPEN sign was lit above the door. This is a wonderfully designed space filled with a great selection of reasonably priced wines and an inviting, cool wine bar pouring whites, reds, and bubbly. The owner, Richard, was very friendly and extremely excited about opening up this place. After hearing it could have been rented to Subway, I am even more thankful that it turned out to be a great addition to the north side of the lake.
The small plates sound delicious and promising with a variety of options such as assorted cheeses, pulled pork sliders, hummus plate, truffles and more.
I am looking forward to making this a regular stop to mingle with friends and the first place I think of when I want to run and grab a great bottle of wine.
