Business Owner

Hara Construction was founded by Owner Todd Hara in January of 2003. Even as a child building and creating was Todd’s passion. At night when he was put down to sleep, he refused his teddy bear and cuddles with a hammer. He followed this passion while growing up being a part of any and all extracurricular activities available involving all aspects of building and construction.

Upon going to Landmark College, a private college in Vermont, he continued with his extracurricular activities that not only included work studies in carpentry and building, but he also became an icon in the community. Todd was a volunteer Fire Fighter in Putney, Vermont for 6 years, tutored students with learning disabilities through his stent at the college, and received a Community Service Award with thanks and honors for giving back to the community. All of this while graduating with honors at the top of his class.

We were very pleased with the bedroom remodel we did with Hara Construction. It was not a complicated project, and they were the only contractor that didn’t push us to hire a designer. We talked through various possibilities and Ryan had some great design ideas. Because it was a small project, they were able to fit us in quickly while awaiting permitting for another larger project. They got everything done efficiently with high-​quality, solid workmanship. Great communication via text, phone calls, and in-​person meetings with Ryan, Jarad, and Mark. We were also very happy with the carpenter (can’t remember his name!) who built a custom banister, loft ladder and closet doors for the room. I plan to use them again for future projects and would highly recommend them, especially to anyone who lives in West Seattle or South Seattle. I have found it really makes a difference to have a contractor that is based near the work site.

We met with Ryan to give us an estimate on our bathroom remodel project. He was very knowledgable and put together a detailed estimate that broke each expense down. (Something that we didn’t get from other contractors we met with). He was responsive to our calls/​emails and got back to us in a timely manner. We ended up not doing the project due to an unexpected financial situation, but we were impressed by our meeting and will definitely contact Hara for our next project.

I had my basement remodeled and added a bathroom. From the first time I met Todd. He was very proffesional, on time and honest about what I wanted and what was reality. He also comunicates very well and returns texts and calls quickly. The finished job was done within the estimated time he quoted and my basement looks amazing. I am so happy with all of it, the tile work is beautiful. I love it. Thank you Hara Constrution, I would definitely hire Hara again and refer them to all my peeps.

I’m not sure how these people got such high reviews because it certainly isn’t how I was treated. To begin with, although I called during normal business hours I got voice mail which took their office two business days to return. I set up an appointment which they called the same day of to ask if they could come out earlier to accomodate their schedule. I said ok. Now what my job is is a bathroom remodel that I started & after getting the electrical & flooring done found out that to put in the cement board walls, the tub, the sink, the sheetrock ceiling & tile the tub/​sink walls & install the glass door for the tub was more than this 64 year old veteran could handle. So I contacted Hara who said yes, they do finish up remodel jobs & bathrooms is their specialty. When the rep came out to make a bid he immediately wanted to change my plans. I had already bought the products I wanted installed which included a pedestal sink. He doesn’t like pedestal sinks & wanted to know why I couldn’t go with a vanity type. So after explaining my reasons, he accepted it grudgingly. I have to have a pony wall built on the drain end of the tub to complete the enclosure which I wanted it to be 3′ tall, but he wanted it 4′ tall for no reasons provided. On & on this banter went to which he had written nothing down about. After a half hour of this, when we were through I offered him a written list which I prepared so he could base his proposal on which I was guessing he was going to do that evening. That was over a week ago & I haven’t heard a thing from them since. He didn’t even bother to take down my name, phone number, address, etc that is routine with most contractors I’ve dealt with, which I have done extensively this summer on other jobs. And they knew in spite of their 2 week lead time, that we wanted this job done as quickly as possible – this is our main house bathroom which is unuseable at this time. I got the impression that if they cant build in their profit by selling their products with their labor, that they’re not interested. Fine, but at least tell me. Just not calling back, leaving a customer hang like this is not good customer service. I would be very careful before hiring these people.

This review is with regards to Hara Constructions landscaping pricing, which is ludicrously high. I am in need of a new privacy fence, about 250 feet total, and a retaining wall, roughly 100 feet by 4 feet tall. Todd, the owner, came out to my property for to give me an estimate. He was 3 hours late to my house in West Seattle, after calling at the appointment time to say he was «just driving down from Queen Anne». When he finally showed up, I walked him around the property and tried to explain what I wanted done. It was difficult to get a word in with Todd, as he seemed extremely rushed, and answered two phone calls during the estimate. He did not take a single measurement at the property, instead only taking a few pictures/​videos with his phone. All in all he was at my house for about 10 minutes, and left while I was attempting to ask for an additional estimate on some interior electrical work.
When I received the estimate a few days later in my email I could hardly believe it. Hara quoted me just of $ 54,000 for my 250 feet of fence and 100 feet of retaining wall. The fence portion of that estimate was $ 31,000, or $ 124 per foot. The second highest cost I saw when receiving estimates for my fence was $ 40 a foot, and that company was very clear that their fencing cost was on the very high end but they guaranteed the materials quality and craftsmanship.
Extremely unprofessional and absurdly expensive, steer clear of Hara Construction.

Todd came to a house we are currently buying, in the midst of a general home inspector, sewer inspector and a couple other people. Upon walking in, he immediately took action while I was taken with a couple of the others as started looking around the house. Once I was able to connect with him, he already had some pointers and thoughts for me. He was able to not only help with some guidance on the things I thought I was going to ask him to look at, he went above and beyond, even working in tandem with the other inspector there. Based on their combined opinions, we are moving forward with buying the house (and will be giving Todd a call once we have keys to do some of the actual projects)!
Not to mention Todd showed up fast, with late notice, and was responsive when we text/​emailed.

–All staff were very friendly and professional.
–Great senses of humor as well.
–They work fast and solved my problem within the day (when their competitors told me it would be weeks).
–I’ve found them to be customer and service driven; it was a great experience.
–Might have superpowers.

Hara Construction did a major many project remodel on our home about a year ago: paint, plaster, basement french drain, basement retrofit, and many other small projects. Todd worked personally and often with us as the project progressed. We are very satisfied with the work and would recommend Hara Construction strongly. No problems with the work in the past year. I’m giving 4 of 5 stars because there was a bit of a lag time on documents as we progressed through the project. This is reasonable as we made many changes, but also a point of constructive criticism I hope.

We hired Hara Construction to replace our aging deck and part of our garage that were both heavily water damaged. We got quotes from 5 contractors and Todd had the best price amongst the contractors that seemed to know what they were doing. There are a couple things that I have really appreciated about working with Todd. First the quality of the work was high — they used high quality materials and did a thorough job. They also cleaned the job site every single day, so it never looked like a disaster, or was difficult to get around. There were a few small issues throughout the project, but Todd made time to come back and handle them quickly, even though they had moved on to another job site. They do great work, and are great to work with.

As a residential property manager, I am always on the lookout for reliable vendors who can get me and my tenants out of a jam. The folks at Hara Construction fit the bill nicely.
I needed someone who could come in and improve air circulation in a daylight basement apartment. Todd came in with a plan (that made sense) and executed it beautifully. It took three days. Each day his crew was on time (early in fact). They took their time with each step and even came out on a Saturday to make sure the tenants weren’t left hanging.
Their sense of professionalism has earned them a place as my go-​to guys.

Although we weren’t able to use them on out first project, (the homeowner had their own guys) when we were ready, they were very quick getting the work scheduled and it was completed problem free! We would readily use Hara Construction for any projects in the future!!! Plus, Todd was really nice to our dog :).

Todd and his guys at Hara Construction are fantastic! We had them help us remodel our bathroom last summer and they were happy to work with us to find ways for us to do some of the work to keep the costs down. The work they did in a very small space with everything a custom size was fabulous and we get compliments all the time on how great it looks. We also hired them to replace the trim on the back of our house and paint the entire exterior. They were able to fit us in much sooner than traditional painting companies and the price was very competitive. The crew was always on-​time and very professional. They did a wonderful job and we would recommend them to anyone for any type of home repair or painting project!

We were introduced to Hara Construction through another contractor who discovered leaks in our basement. The initial company, PermaDry, came in, dug a huge trench throughout our basement, fixed leaks, identified some other issues and left. That’s where Hara comes in. Their team filled in the trenches, leveled the floor, repaired carpet, layed new tile and re-​painted the walls and the trim. Not only have they exceeded our expectations on the finished product, but you could not ask for a nicer, more well-​mannered and respectful group of people to be in your home. Their communication is over the top and we have always known what the schedule is for any given day in advance. I’m not sure I’ve even seen them take a real break! We have other remodeling projects in mind for the future, and we won’t call anyone else but Hara Construction. Thank you to Todd, Jarad and Octavio for great work!

Hara Construction has been working on our floating home remodel in Portage Bay. Todd and his team have done an amazing job for us. We ran into a few unexpected challenges during our remodel including water damage and they were able to help us out quickly by doing the needed repairs so it didn’t slow down our project. When we ran into some of these challenges Todd worked with us to find a solution and helped us with our options.
Because the crew has been so professional and done such great work our list of items for them to do has grown significantly. All the work they have done has been completed in a timely and professional manner. The crew shows up when they say they will and they have stayed within our budget. At the end of each day they leave the job site clean often in better shape than it was before they started.
In addition Todd has a large network of other contractors and we have been very happy with all of the referrals he has given us. Each of them has met the same high quality standard Todd and his crew has.
I would recommend using Hara Construction for any of your construction or remodeling projects. We will definitely use them for any future projects we have.

Hara Construction recently completed remodel work on my basement. I have to say, their work exceeded all of my (and more importantly, my wife’s) expectations. The crew was very professional, completed the work on time and budget. I have a few projects coming up (bathroom and kitchen remodels) and will absolutely use Hara.
