Great store for everything you need to cook at home, just like Mom’s… Meat, live fish, produce, rice and everything in between. Monkey come here for bags of G7 Instant Coffee. Staff is friendly and helpful. Small parking lot out front and street parking available.

I thought I outsmarted everyone by coming on a Monday morning to do my shopping but turns out it was really packed in there. Too packed to maneuver a shopping cart, especially since the place is a complete mess and really dirty(even for a Chinatown type shop). The meat looked good and fresh as it usually does but the veggies looked wilted and terrible and the prices seem to have gone up. When I couldn’t find Ovaltine or beets and realized none of the veggies looked edible I put my stuff back and went across the street to Hau Hau, not that that was much better. I think this place is just too dirty, messy, crowded and disorganized for me. Also the cashiers don’t even greet you and if you bring your own bag they make it seem like it’s a hassle for them to put your stuff in it because it breaks their routine or something. Ugh, I get frustrated just thinking about this place. Go to Lam Seafood instead, people there are competent and nice and the place is so much cleaner and organized.

Hop Thanh is the I-District sister store of the HT Oaktree Market on Aurora in north Seattle. This store being in the I-District is comparatively smaller. Despite the modest space, the store offers a large assortment of goods including seafood, meat and produce and Asian groceries. Meat quality is decent. Produce is a little ho hum. Cheaper prices can be found at Hau Hau or for a better selection, visit Van Produce which is two blocks down S Jackson. Prices are decent. Comparable to Viet Wah and slightly higher than Hau Hau Market which are both within a block of each other. Though Hop Thanh is smaller than both. Space in the store is a little cramped so it is oftentimes difficult to manuever around the store when it is busy. Like Hau Hau across the street, the line to pay for your goods is somewhat confusing. The space issue only magnifies this. Overall, Hop Thanh is a decent market to visit in the I-District. It is comparable to other grocers around the area. If you are claustrophobic or hate having to manuever large crowds of people, I would suggest Viet Wah.
