When telling my story I’m not going to mention the name of anyone at iMatch or the company they were trying to submit me to. That is unless someone there decides to say I’m lying. If that happens I’ll be more than happy to prove them wrong.
It all started when they cold called me about a possible job at a rather large company in my area. He promised me that he had great connections in the company (something all recruiters say) and he could help me find a full time gig. This is where the fun begins.
A call was setup for me to talk to someone at the company on a Friday. The call never came. I sat there kind of surprised but I was also mad. After I calmed down I figured I would let the recruiter know what happened once he reached out to me. Here’s the problem. He never reached out to me. I called his office and got his voice mail. I told him that not only did I not get the call, but also our relationship was over. Sunday rolls around and I get an email from the recruiter asking how it went. I responded with «just listen to your voice mail.» He emailed and called me the next day apologizing. He said there was a mistake made and he told me he was with his child all weekend. That is why he didn’t bother to follow up on Friday. I decided to give it one more chance because I had gotten some terrible news about a friend of mine and I wasn’t up for an argument.
At this point I do the phone interview and then I’m asked to come in. When I get there I’m just kind of thrown to an interview panel and nobody told me what the position was for. I left there trying to figure out what just happened. I called the recruiter the next day (the interview ended late) and I asked what was going on. I thought I was interviewing with one group, but then I was handed off to another. I was told this is what the company does and not to worry. They really like me so far and they want me to come back. They rush me in for an interview and the recruiter tells me they want to offer me the job. There was one catch. You remember that full time job I was told I was interviewing for? Well now it’s a contract job. Not only is it a contract job, but also iMatch doesn’t have an agreement to handle contract positions. I’m told to wait and soon enough I’ll be at my new job.
After a month goes by, I start to interview again and get another offer. I reach out to iMatch (we had been in contact this entire time) and let them know. They tell me it will just be one more day and tell me what they are going to pay me. I decided to go with the company iMatch submitted me to. I’m told that they will call me Monday with all the information.
Monday rolls around and guess what? There is no longer any room for me at the company! The headcount is full! Guess who never looked into this when I said I had another offer on the table? iMatch! Guess who was screwed out of work? Me!
I talked to iMatch two more times and I never heard from them again. They just gave me excuses. Like the excuse that the recruiter I was working with went on a cruise and he wouldn’t be around for a week. The fun part about that is the recruiter did go on a cruise, but also quit or was fired before or after he left. Did anyone fill me in on the fact I would never hear from him again? Nope! Did they ever give me an explanation of exactly what happened? Nope! I started working with another recruiter and they dug into for me. I got closure from a third party that was nice enough to look into it. Oh, and I found out iMatch should’ve never made me an offer as they were not an authorized vendor.
People always talk about how much they can’t stand recruiters. It’s because of companies like iMatch that help prove people’s perceptions of recruiters to be correct. I’m going to end this with a quote from Raul Julia when he played Gomez Addams in the movie Addams Family Values:
