If you’ve ever thought about trying capoeira– this is absolutely the place! Capoeira, the traditional Afro-Brazilian martial art, for me, was really intimidating to try out. An old friend introduced me to it, and I learned to love it… the enchanting music and the competition of the game makes it incredibly fun and challenging. It’s also the best fitness routine I’ve ever seen or practiced. Talk about flexibility and muscle toning– geez! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, youtube it. Anyway, so I’ve tried many types of capoeira classes before with lots of different groups/schools, but this FICA Seattle group is definitely the best I’ve ever trained with. The instructors are kind, open, enthusiastic, and you come to feel like a part of a family there. Beginners/intermediate/advanced classes are offered regularly, and you can join in any time. The classes are also really affordable compared to other schools and fitness gigs. They also teach kids too: in fact, some families even train together in this group, which makes the group even more fun to be around. Not to mention, if you get your kid to do capoeira, it basically guarantees they will be good at any/all sports — since the training is so transferable to other dance/sport activities. :). The instructors give you personal attention, which is really important to make sure you get the steps right and are well-prepared for«roda»(competition). There is a movement and music part to each class, and the group supplies instruments for you to learn. They are traditional capoeira instruments– and you’ll get Brazilian Portuguese music lessons too. Neat! The instructors are so passionate about capoeira, it is really inspiring, so try this place out!
