Kate’s Day Spa

My massage at Kate’s was good, but the broader experience was… Awkward. Really awkward at several different points.
I should have known better. Before I even showed up, I didn’t get a reply from the spa when I submitted a question via their web site.
When I did show up, the awkwardness began right off the bat when the only one to greet me upon entering the building was the dog. The human at the front desk didn’t address me until I — finally — addressed her. Only then did she even ask me who I was and why I was there. Why else would I be there? This was a common theme as my masseuse didn’t know my name either.
The steam room was out of service so don’t get your hopes up there. Technically, their website is accurate: They do, in fact, have a steam room on the premises. My assumption that it would be functional steam room was my only mistake on that front. There would be no steam for me today.
The massage was good, but awkward — like a lot of other things that I experienced at Kate’s.
In general, it just felt as though nobody at Kate’s wanted to be doing what they were doing — like the hipster barista at your local coffee joint who’s only working there until his blog covering vintage mustache grooming accessories finally takes

This place was exactly what I needed. I felt very welcomed by Kate and her dog. How adorable to have a dog greet you when you come in. She knew exactly what I needed, she listened to me and I felt so relaxed when I was done. The space is nice, and I was able to book a day a head of time. I think the prices are reasonable compared to services else where. I am happy to have this spa in my neighborhood.

I rarely post reviews but had to make an exception. I was very disappointed with their service. I am pregnant and have been experiencing some lower back pain. Hoping to get some desperate relief, I called asking for an appt today. Was told that 4pm is available. When I showed up for the appt, I was told that since they had a power outage, they had double booked and that they could no longer accommodate me. Least to say I am extremely disappointed. There are many things that the staff who scheduled my appt could have done, she could have checked with the therapist to avoid this situation. Thanks to her incompetency, I have to suffer through the pain tonight with no relief. Even though they are 5 mins from where I live, I have no intention of returning to this salon ever again.

I see Heather for massages, and she is consistently wonderful! I needed a massage but was self conscience about my eczema. Not only was she warm and professional but didn’t blink an eye about the eczema. Since then she is my go-​to-​gal for massages!
I had a facial with Kate for the first time this year, and she is a miracle worker! She could tell why I was having trouble in the same spots (tip: Don’t touch your face!) and gave me some advice about my skin care regiment. Not only was she knowledgable but she truly cares about helping me get flawless skin.
In short both ladies are warm, professional and very talented.

My wife and I have been regularly visiting Kate’s Day Spa for nearly 6 months now. We absolute love the service, the staff are fantastic and the treatments are excellent.
Kate and Heather are both outstanding, the prices are very reasonable and the spa is super relaxing. Thoroughly recommended to all local inhabitants of Madison Valley and beyond.
We have been using our HSA card — there was an issue last week but Kate resolved it quickly. Super good service as always.

Kate’s Day Spa is wonderful! I first met Kate when I injured my neck and continued to see her on a weekly basis since then. She has helped my with a number of injuries, migraines, and skin health. Kate has been an absolute god send and I look forward to seeing her each week. She is the most knowledgeable massage therapist that I have ever met and I will not be going anywhere else in Seattle. Would definitely recommend her to any of my friends who need help with an injury or just want a REALLY good massage.

I was never much of a massage guy, and I never thought I would feel at home in a «day spa» — but that was before I started going to Kate’s! Kate has worked miracles on my chronically tense neck and shoulders, both with her masterful massage technique and with her calming, gentle presence. I am also a big fan of their steam room. I will forever be grateful for the time that Kate and Heather came to the rescue by setting up a last-​minute steam for a vocalist friend from out of town, who started coming down with a cold just before an important concert. They are truly caring and generous people, and it shows in the work they do.

Now that I am not so aggravated, I would like to add a couple things.
Heather is an awesome massage therapist, and I highly recommend her. I have only had a massage from Kate once, but she was great too.
I hate making phone calls, so online booking is a must for me. After this snafu with online booking, I would suggest just calling Kate’s to make your appointment, so that really takes it out of the running for me personally. But if you don’t mind calling, it might be just perfect for you.
And finally, I think my main complaint was the totally blasé attitude of Kate (the owner) when she called me. I have been a client there for some time, so to call and move my appointment RIGHT before I was supposed to be there without a word of (understandable) explanation or any sort of «I’m sorry» just really does not sit well with me. It’s no way to treat any client, but especially not one who has been with you for years.
So with that said, the massages are great, but I personally will not be returning.

Kate’s day spa is wonderful. The staff is very friendly and welcoming when I walk into the door. I live 30 miles away but the traveling time is well worth it. I only trust Kate’s day spa with my back pain. 5 stars all the way.

Kates day spa is the place to go if you want to relax and be pampered. They are also very knowledgeable about skin care, using natural products.

I’ve been going to Kate’s for nearly 25 years. I dropped in all those years ago just because I used to live near by. I’ve continued to come back (even though now I live in a completely different city) for the simple reason that Kate hires competent practitioners and has reasonable prices. As anyone knows who appreciates the art of good massage, not all practitioners are created equal. In fact, many times things can go from bad to worse in the hands of someone who doesn’t know what they are doing. If superb massage is what you are interested in (and really, why else would you go to a day spa) Kate’s is where you need to go.

Heather is awesome! She’s one of my top 3 massage therapists in Seattle and I wish I could see her more frequently. Heather will provide attention to the details of what’s bothering you and manage to focus on those areas without neglecting others.
I can’t say enough — Book an appointment!

I live just a couple blocks away, but made it into Kate’s for the first time this evening with my roommate. We booked a half an hour in the incredible private steam room, followed by massages. The steam room is amazing and comes with a shower, so you can cool off a bit in the middle of the steam if needed (I needed, multiple times). Our massages were great and the ambiance of the rooms was lovely. Kate is super cool and going here definitely feels like your supporting local, good business.
Going back to feeling super relaxed now…

W.o.w… How do I say this nicely.
Ok – I can’t… probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced from a spa.
It was a Friday after work. I am pregnant. I have pretty extreme lower back pain and I was looking forward to a great massage, judging from the Unilocal reviews.
First of all, I rescheduled my initial appointment due to a work conflict. Totally my fault, they graciously let me move it, but then said they couldn’t confirm the Friday 6pm slot, but would call me back before the appointment.
By Friday afternoon, no one had called me. So I called and left a message. I received a voicemail back at 5:40pm confirming my 6pm massage so I booked it over there.
I arrived 15 mins late, there was no receptionist. I rang the bell at the receptionist desk over and over. I called and listened to my call ring endlessly. Over 10 mins later, the other therapist ran out, apologized, and said she was in the middle of the massage but called my therapist Heather for me.
Heather on the phone — did not apologize, ask to reschedule, or explain why there was no one here… was not friendly at all, and went straight into accusing me of being over 10mins late because she «had just walked out the door at 6:10». (couldn’t you have dialed me to see if I was on my way?)
I said «yes, I am sorry, I just got the message that it was confirmed until 5:40, so I drove over right away» (they close at 8pm, so I had no idea I was her last appointment)
Heather — «Well we’re going to work out a better system where we can rely on each other. Because I’m not going to sit around waiting for you»
Me — «That is a great attitude for a new customer. Thank you. Bye».
We’re not friends. We don’t rely on each other. I’m a customer who is paying for a service. I don’t need that animosity from a spa. Taking my back pains elsewhere, where I don’t get a pain in the ass attitude as an add on service.

Had a great massage. First time going will go again when back in seattle. Very relaxing. Awesome!

I love, love, LOVE Kate’s! Not only is the atmosphere soothing, and relaxing, but Heather is the best massage therapist I have ever had. I have been going her for almost two years now and I have never been disappointed. Kate and Heather make me feel like the care about me as a person and not just as a client, which is very refreshing.
They also offer a wide array of services. Last weekend my boyfriend got a facial massage with aloe lotion and loved it. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

They take my insurance — both my current insurance and the insurance I had at my previous job.
They have free parking in back.
They have evening hours, which is fantastic for those of us who work during the day.
And they give fantastic massages. What more could you ask for?

I like a nice good. Good service tells me stability and sometimes that is what we each need.
This was my first experience here after seeing and hearing about this shop.
What I like most about this shop is the hours of service. Its difficult to find evening hours on a weekday, and that is what I found by one of their practioners. I appreciated not only the evening hour, but I also called the day before and got in! Pretty great!
Its located in the Madison Valley, which means some of their treatment rooms may be near the main roadway as mine was. This was a bit distracting, but not terribly bad. The room I was in was nicely decorated and had lots of dark shades to keep the room dim, which was great.
Tiffany, my massage practioner, did a good job and was friendly and open to my feedback. I felt comfortable I would return again if needed =D

I’ve been in twice for massage, and they are wonderful! Very relaxing atmosphere. In the past I’ve had trouble really relaxing, but no problem here. They make you feel at home. I will keep going here until the end of time. If you are looking for down to earth, amazing massages– look no further.

Kate’s is my favorite place for massages! I’ve tried many massage providers, from the cheap introductory rated ones with newbie therapists to high end pricey spas, and have always returned to see Kate’s. They provide fabulous service at great prices and also accept insurance. This is a 2 – 3 therapist spa tucked away from the main street in a cute shopping complex in Madison Park. They have several parking spots in the garage below them or tons of street parking makes it really convenient.
The spa is cozy, inviting, and has a very relaxing ambience. They also have a steam bath, which I love to relax in for 15 minutes before my massge. It really helps me relax my muscles and allows the therapist to dig in and hit my tension areas. I always feel so much better after visiting Kate, both physically and spiritually. She’s easy to talk to and has a therapeutic vibe that’s comforting. I highly recommend Kate’s to anyone searching for a massage therapist in the Seattle area.
