A great Irish pub in Post Alley. Hubs and I came in on a sunny Saturday afternoon. It wasn’t too crowded, and we were able to snag a table in the front window, directly in the path of that glorious(and lately, elusive) sunshine. We split the chicken pasty, it was perfect! The dough was flaky and tender, the filling flavorful and the whole thing was topped with a tasty tarragon cream sauce. Hubs had the salmon and beet salad, which contained a large portion of salmon, and came together nicely with the crumbled blue cheese on top. I had one of the specials, a smoked salmon and brie sammie that was good, though had quite a bit of mustard on it, which was overpowering. It was much better once I scraped most of it off. This is a must-try if you find yourself in Post Alley.

Kells is one of my favorite pubs in Seattle. It’s usually pretty quiet during happy hour Monday-Thursday, so I like to come here to get some work done while drinking an Irish coffee and nomming on some pasties. The staff are super pleasant and respectful, coming by to check on me and get me a refill, but otherwise they let me do my thing. Despite being in Pike Place, it’s a nice getaway from the bustle of the market and chill out. One request: Get some more Irish ciders! Stonewell is amazing and would be a great addition.

Great place to stop for lunch or dinner. Huge whiskey list. I highly recommend the chicken pastry so good! With an amazing tarragon crème sauce. I also had the salmon and beet salad. Who knew blue cheese went so well with both. The amount of salmon was amazing. My wife had the special lox and bree sandwich. It was a little heavy on the mustard. That kind of overpowered the other great flavors. But still tasty.

Ummmm, this place could easily be such a rip-off. Could easily over-charge for food, and bring out low-quality stuff. But, that’s NOT what you get here. It has some of my favorite elements — low lighting, quiet environment, lots of menu options, and quality food. Also, the staff is attentive, but not too attentive. I wish it were in my neighborhood.

Excellent collection of single malt whiskeys. There aren’t a lot of places in Seattle which serve Talisker, Caol Ila and Laphroaig 18 all in one place. Definitely going back again

My husband and I only visited the bar while we were waiting for our table to be ready at the pink door and we wish we had stayed longer. The bar tender was nice and it was pretty chill.

Being from Boston, I know what a fun, drunken night at an Irish pub looks like. Kells felt like home to me. Good bartenders, live music, comfortable mix of seating vs bar standing room, and silly drinker dancing. I can’t vouch for the food, as I haven’t ever ordered any, but I can certainly tell you that this place is a good time. Actually, we were celebrating my friend’s birthday and they asked him to leave because he lifted his shirt(LOL) so that goes to show that they’re a good time but don’t let hooligans(even birthday hooligans) ruin it for other guests. Epilogue: flasher-friend’s birthday celebration was not ruined! He did a little more bar hopping with us in Belltown before being safely put to bed. Hah

Beef pasties and Ballycastle Sausage Roll are amazing! My friend and I were looking for a pub to sit and relax and this place was defiantly it. Jimmy was our waiter and he was very knowledgeable about the food and drink ideas. My friend had a «beer passport» where she reviews beers she try’s. We couldn’t fill out a lot of it and Jimmy went out of his way to find out the information and fill it out for us. Great guy with a great personality. We had a great experience and I will be back for sure!

Bartender has lack of respect for customers, rude and drink at the job. I think he is part of the family who own the restaurant. We went over to have fun, we pay to have fun and drinks. They should fired him, some of the people I know who go to the same restaurant, had the same problems with that person.(White, short with glasses). The food was delicious. Patrick is a great guess.

Went here for post work party. Was disappointed that they didn’t have Spanish coffee, or Porter beer. Asked for soda water but got regular water. Not a big beer drinker but had a red ale eventually. All ended up dancing to the loud music, which was great after midnight! Did end up getting club soda and a margarita. Good margarita! Has fun there. Was great place to party and enjoy Seattle a little bit!

Came here for a private party for work so I didn’t have a ton of interaction with the staff or at least a sober interaction… but anyways, food is great. We had a spread of Shepherds pie, meat, cheese, and fruit platter, these flaky meat biscuit things(really delicious and sad I don’t know what these are called or can describe them better, I couldn’t find them on the menu), and chicken wings. All really good. The private upstairs area is great for a midsize party. We had around 100 people fit comfortably with regard to seating. Of course the bar was a little packed as we have kind of a raucous group but the bathrooms are not gross so that’s a plus. Location is a little weird but just be on the look out as there is construction happening. All in all a great place to come to hang out.

Really, really good, but not great. I’m not cheap — I’m a foodie & I have no qualms about spending money on food — but when a menu’s price range goes as high as Kell’s, my expectations are raised to match. The vegetarian pasty was tasty, but at $ 8.00, the serving size and lack of side dish was a waste-y.(That was my attempt at a rhyming review). I sampled the shepherd’s pie, the crab patties, and a cup of bean soup as well. Each dish was good, like I said, but nothing out of the ordinary. I will say that the buttermilk salad dressing(their version of ranch) was delicious and the waiter was ridiculously hot. In conclusion, yes, I would recommend this place to a friend, and, yes, I will urge the friend to dine during cheaper lunch hours.

Came in for a birthday, was the DD though… Bummer. This bar is cool though! Live music, comfortable seating, dance floor, and everything seemed clean. Id like to come back in and have a few drinks when i have the chance.

Great Irish fare. One of my favorite places in the country. Best pasties ever; especially the corned beef pasty. Cheese platter is a definite crowd pleaser.

My husband and I are visiting Seattle for the first time and stumbled upon Kells and we are so glad we did. The staff, atmosphere and food were all amazing. Irish music playing, dim lighting and the owner seated us herself. She was very friendly and we loved her Irish accent. We had clam chowder, Irish stew, a beef pasty and Marconi coffees. Everything was awesome! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Seattle!

Most restaurants that have«pub» to their name are places that specialize in hamburgers, hot wings and the obligatory salads. With Kells it seems like they actually live up to their name as actually being a pub. Nearly all of the food here is Irish inspired dishes. I don’t know if what we had was«just like Ireland» since I have never been there but it seemed authentic enough and was took a literal meaning to the name. Steve and I split a large bowl of their Clam Chowder which was very good. For our main course I had a Shepard’s Pie which was delightful and Steve had a kind of stew which also was wonderful. We had a wonderful, decadent whiskey cake to share as well. Of course you are not getting the full pub experience if you don’t have a beer and so we got some of the Kells brand of beer. Here is where something potentially problematic could have arose with the service but wound up being a «fortunate mistake». They didn’t have everything on tap that was listed on their menu but I was congenial and was working to work with them. It happens sometimes. I settled on the Kells’ IPA but was brought their Red. The waitress realized she made a mistake only after I had some beer but it was not an issue because their Red Ale was very, very good. The only thing that was seriously problematic was the music they were playing. I have zero problem with Irish music but I do have a problem when the same song of any origin keeps getting played repeatedly. I think I heard two different songs throughout the entire meal and that was very grating. Other customers were complaining about it too and so that is the only matter I can see by coming here that would need improvement.

Ordered a pasty, soup, and beer. Pasty was bad… looked good, but doughy and not cooked through… should be steamy(from a real oven) but was far from it. Spilt pea soup was tasty, but I’m no connoisseur. Beer is good!

Well, I can’t comment on the food, because I never got service. Hubby, baby, and I came in at 6:10 on Monday evening. The hostess was a little to busy flirting to notice us. The boy she was snuggling with pointed us out to her. She turned and said… «Sit anywhere you like» we choose a seat on their patio… Then waited… 5 minutes… No sign on server, waters or menus… 10 minutes… Nothing… Now it’s 6:26, and we are leaving… Unsatisfied, unhappy, and still hungry… Fail! Don’t waste your time if they won’t waste there’s

Shrimp salad was fantastic as was the corned beef. A pint of Irish lager hit the spot on an unusually warm day. Great servers in a beautiful Irish pub. Slainte!

We popped in here for happy hour before our reservation at the pink door. I can’t comment on the food, but the whiskey & scotch selections were vast. And the environment is Ireland-esc. Dark and feels welcoming. Several beers on tap though many were British and Irish

When visiting Seattle, I usually end up at Pike Place to visit family. A tradition is to go to Kells(located in Post Alley, right next to Pikes) and have a nice pint of Guinness, or Kilkenny. Kilkenny is hard to find, so a few years ago when finding out that Kells had it, I was sold. Unfortunately, this trip to Kells would not produce Kilkenny, as the waitress said they have not had it since last year. The reason being, is there is a strike at the docks, and the workers refuse to unload the kegs. Sucks for me, but I ordered and enjoyed some Guinness. I usually come here just for a drink or two. I tried a few of the food items in the past, and they were only so-so. Then again, this is an Irish pub, not a restaurant, so it was up to par for pub food. I will still come here for drinks though, and grab dinner somewhere else. The pub itself has a great traditional atmosphere. They have a TV and always have a football(soccer) game on, which I appreciate. I will be back to Kells again, and hopefully by then the strike will be over and the Kilkenny will pour!

Went to Kells last night and I really appreciated that there was a place that had live entertainment daily! The performer, Liam has been performing at Kells since they opened some 30 years ago! The guy is fun and performs very well with an Irish flare. He has some originals as the CD’s are available and enjoys taking requests from the audience to sing. The service is prompt and with a smile. I have not eaten at this establishment thus far so I will need to review the rest of what the place can offer at another time. The bar atmosphere is open and on the dark side which is the them I enjoy in a tavern like setting. The amount of whiskeys they have are very impressive and their wall of liquor is lined with them to see. They also have the proper amount of other standard liquors and flavored vodkas to make any visitor happy. Thanks for the great entertainment, service, and Irish experience!

SERVICE. The service here is abysmal. The several waiters on the floor, including the ones who would visit the cash register located directly next to us, would go out of their way to avoid our table. Heck, even the woman who was supposed to be our server avoided us. Not pointing fingers, but it felt more race related than anything, as the bulk of the clientele was race A, whereas our table was race B. ENVIRONMENT. Dingy, dark, and more of a good-old-boys watering hole than a real destination. Definitely not returning.
