Kisw FM 99.9

Hysterical, time-​passing opinionated, silly goofy. Tallk show. gets me through another famous city-​designed traffic delay.

This station has really been going down hill the past decade. More and more talk — I can select the AM band if K want to listen to talk shows.
Well_​we have all heard the saying «you are your own worst enemy.» This ks true of the managers and bean counters st Entercom (owner of KISW.) I have been listening to this station since 1980 and find Kt appealing that the programming has gone down hill this bad.
In a way, Entercom J’s actually providing free advertising for services lime Spotify ans Sirius XM.
Just gotta love the song «last DJ» by Tom Petty…

Growing up in LA we had KNAC and they rocked our freaking heads off. Best group of jock’s in history. That special time ended in 1994. Radio became mundane.
Then I discovered KISW radio and things got better. It is refreshing. It’s bad radio. Don’t be afraid to go all in.

When KISW actually does play music, 90% of it is damn good. I like to rock my face off in the car, and their selection accomplishes that.
Most of the time, however, the station has different talk shows going on. I love the Men’s Room. I love Jolene. BJ Shea can make mornings tolerable. Other times you’ll want him to shut up.
With KISW, you’re more likely to tune into talk than music nowadays. I guess that’s okay. It’s one of the few stations in this city that is worth listening to, in my opinion.

Awesome station even though they talk a lot in the mornings but every station does wouldn’t recommend for the ladies if «The Men’s Room» was on.

While I listen to this channel to hear «The Men’s Room» show, it could be a lot better if they did away with the 40 and going on 50 year old music they play. Since Stern left the air, the only fix I can get for radio silliness is the Men’s Room show, and they usually do a decent job of getting me to laugh, though I’m actually more of a political talk junkie.
When I started listening to music as a kid, it was during the 80s when acts like Cindy Lauper, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, etc. were all the rage. Me and my friends didn’t care for that music at all so we reached back into the better rock legends of the 70s, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Led Zep, Van Halen (David Lee Roth version) AC/​DC, Hendrix, etc.
Now that time has passed those tunes are kind of worn out for me. I’d like to hear some of the new rock talent that’s out there (preferably post-​Grunge) and KISW just doesn’t seem to want to come forward when it comes to music choices.
What especially stands out as a miserable day for the station is when they chose to play Ozzy’s «Let me hear you scream» every hour on the hour. I hate that album. I think if they got rid of Jolene as program director (who doesn’t seem to realize that the big hair 80s bands days are over) and got someone who has a good ear for some of the newer, hard rocking acts (not the emo or whiney coffee house stuff like the play on the End), I would listen to the station a lot more. The truth is, as far as I know, there is no straight new Rock station in the Seattle area (say, one that plays tunes around 5 years old or younger), which is pretty surprising given the size of the area. If you want to listen to FM Rock in this town, you’ll be forced to listen to the same tunes as your Grandpa!

The Men’s Room show in the afternoon is AWESOME!
I don’t even really listen to rock and I tune into KISW for the Mens Room show.

Finally. I talk show that actually causes me to laugh out loud. I made do with Adam Carolla for my morning commute jollies for quite some time, but even that only brought me to a sly grin. But ever since I came across 99.9, BJ Shea and his crew have managed to elicit actual laughter during their rants/​raves/​banter. Accidentally leaving the radio tuned to the same station for my commute home brought The Men’s Room, which for me — being a man — is full of hilarious antics.
I love me some rude humour every now and then.
True, I go here for the talking not for the instrument playing. If I was listening for the latter, I would be giving it a lower rating as metal/​hard-​rock isn’t really my thing. Give me indie and I’ll be happy. **Goes to hide in a corner with a bunch of vinyl.**

Do they… play… music?
I love KISW. They play exactly the music that I love to listen to. That is… when they’re playing music. Which isn’t during standard morning or evening commute times. And only rarely on the times that I leave work late or go out for lunch. So, my norm is to be in 99.9 for ten seconds, realize it’s a commercial or people talking, and switch to something else.
But I do love Jolene. I think she has a great voice for radio, and when she talks, it’s at least about music.

Whether I like this station or not really depends on my mood. One thing that does bug me sometimes, though, is how little music I hear when I listen.
As for the talk shows…
I’ve listened to BJ Shea a lot, and that tends to vary on my mood and the topics. Sometimes I think he’s got a great point and sometimes they’re just being stupid.
Same goes for the Men’s Room, except that I tend to think they’re either being amusing or stupid. What I like most about the show are the responses to the question of the day and what the toast is for the shot of the day.
Ricker… I’m not sure about him. His show has a lot more music, but those random prank calls and oddball conversations are pretty strange to stumble onto.
When I listen to the radio, though, KISW and NPR are my top choices for stations. I find it kind of funny when they make fun of NPR because I feel like I can enjoy both.

if this station played more music and had less jabbering from ignorant, gay-​obsessed mysogyists, i would like it a whole lot better. everytime i turn it on some asshole is yakking it up with other assholes about «what’s more gay — giving another guy a back rub or a hug?» or «what do men prefer — women with small, natural boobs or large implants?» who the fuck cares? shut the fuck up and play the goddam music!

I love this station.
The morning show — BJ Shea is an outspoken individual with a tenancy toward «Larry David» moments. He does rant against women but also against dead beat dads, people who don’t think, politiicans, religious nuts. he’s an equal opportunity ranter. As a woman, I don’t find him offensive, I find it refreshing that he speaks his mind without worrying about being PC. He is often logical and supports his opinion, he doesn’t just through it out there without backing it up.
I also love the afternoon show — The Mens Room. These guys are fun drunks, the kind you want to meet up with after work. They’re always having a good time, there is a «question of the day» usually sparked from some bit of news or other times just silly and random. Today people are calling in to tell them (and us) what they can’t do that they think everyone else can do (such as whistle).

I hate you BJ Shea. My Satellite Radio was stolen recently and I had been forced to listen to terrestrial radio.
Back in 1997 I was a big fan of Steve the Producer’s. So it made sense to tune into KISW in the mornings. Well, not anymore…
I cannot take one more morning of coming into work pissed because of BJ Shea’s rants and raves about women being the source of all evil.
True there are a lot of crazy women in this world who do a lot of shameful things, and yes, shame on them for being that way.
However there are respectful women who do not deserve to be lump summed into your narrow minded view. There is a sea of ignorant men who are raised to disrespect women, and they cling to your degenerate mouth-​breathing mentality. I cringe to think of the generation of retards you cater to.

I love the music but, they need to quit the chatter. If I want talk I will go to AM, FM is for music.
I love that they play old Metallica, Nirvana, Alice In Chains and a lot of older favorites from the 80 instead of the emo junk that is on other rock stations. I would like them more if they played some more new stuff like System OF A Down, Godsmack and more punk.
The rock girls are really cute and give you free stuff at events. I like free stuff.

As radio stations go, this is kind of bearable.
They play rock and lots of it. Mens’ men do the morning show and the have a Metal Shop evening for headbanger stuff.
I tend to put this on when I’m in a car, the other stations are sucking, I’m having to deal with Seattle weaksauce driving and am getting kind of aggro, or a combination of these.

It is kind of hard for me to review this station since I don’t really listen to it for the music. Don’t get me wrong, some of it is pretty good, but the occasional 80’s hair metal and current death metal can inspire changing the dial.
I do enjoy listening to the talk shows though. In the morning I listen to the BJ Shea show and in the afternoon I check out the Men’s Room (*note: I dont check out the mens room like a perverted voyeur, it is a show in the afternoon). These are not the greatest talk shows on earth, but pretty entertaining when you consider some of the talk shows on the Seattle FM dial (sorry, T-​Man is not funny or entertaining). I also hear that Leykis is on at night, but havent listened to him since the Buzz years.
