History

Established in 2009.

In November of 2009 Dr. Cary Waterhouse left a large, corporate owned veterinary practice to start out on his own — his goal to provide quality veterinary care in a compassionate environment centered on the health and comfort of his patients, and the education of his clients.

In August of 2012 Dr. Sarah Carson joined the team — with similar goals and commitment to patient health and understanding.

Along with a skilled and professional team of licensed veterinary technicians and assistants, Lake Union Veterinary Clinic offers patients the best possible care, and offers clients the well-​being that their furry family member is being cared for with all the compassion we would give our own pets.

Business Owner

Dr. Cary Waterhouse is a 2002 graduate of the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Aside from his 4 years in Pullman to pursue his veterinary degree, Dr. Waterhouse has been a resident of the Seattle area his whole life.

Prior to his veterinary career, Dr. Waterhouse was a high school chemistry and biology teacher — an experience that has really come in handy as a veterinarian. Since a large part of medicine involves educating clients, knowing how to break down sometimes complicated information into understandable pieces greatly improves patient care and positive outcomes.

We having been using South lake Union veterinary for several year now and they continue to provide the most friendly service. I have been fortunate to call with last minute changes and they have been very accommodating. Like with all healthcare people, animals there are unexpected issues that can arise and you may have to wait. I have at most been off an appointment by 20mins and the entire staff was checking on us and keeping us updated. I value that Dr. Waterhouse is not rushing anyone of his patients if they are in need of his care. The rest of the staff are the most caring people and if you owned a business you would love to have them as employees.
They have some designated parking spots which helps in bad weather days.

I have really enjoyed and appreciated my time at LUVC. I started taking my dog to them when I moved to Seattle four years ago. I left for a quick moment because of the obscene traffic issues in South Lake Union, but returned to them because I just couldn’t beat their customer service and quality care for my dog. A big thank you to Dr. Waterhouse and Dr. Carson and the entire LUVC team!

FANTASTIC TEAM! We recently moved form Los Angeles and my dogs needed a new vet. To boot, the puppy was having a lot of anxiety and physical issues. Dr. Waterhouse took the time to listen to my concerns in both areas and came up with solutions to help him feel a lot better. We went with eastern medicine, acupuncture and herbs vs more drugs. I’ll update the review up follow up. Bravo to this team for having great staff, knowledgeable doctors and not costing a million dollars.

We took our 5 month old Havanese to LUVC to establish a new vet in Seattle. The clinic was able to schedule an appt within one day and Dr. Waterhouse provided a very thorough explanation about the current growing pains our little puppy is experiencing. I felt he gave the appointment amble attention and there is no doubt that they deserve the great Unilocal rating.
Overall, I am happy to have found a clinic where I feel comfortable to continue to bring my pooch for many years to come.

Dr. Bridge was thorough. Our kitty, Baboo, tolerated all the poking and probing and appeared to feel very safe. The prices were also reasonable. We will definitely return.

We just moved to Seattle and hadn’t established care for our cat as of yet. We noticed our fur baby was not going to the bathroom and immediately went to LUVC. They fit our cat in right away, unblocked his bladder and eased our worries. We will definitely be using LUVC for our cat’s primary care going forward.

I cannot say enough good things about this clinic. We’ve seen both doctors and have had great experiences with their care. We lost a cat to a freak accident last year and the doctors at LUVC have been thorough, compassionate, and professional. We feel comfortable bringing our pets here. The front desk staff here are excellent. The prices are moderate but not unusually expensive and well worth the quality of care. They are timely. Thank you!

We have been going to Lake Union Veterinary Clinic since we moved to Seattle in 2011 and cannot say enough good things about it! Dr. Waterhouse and his team are absolutely amazing! Not only are they compassionate and caring, but they also understand that our dogs are part of our family and not just pets.
They always take the time and listen to our concerns (the reason we are there for the visit) and take the best approach possible, all the while keeping us informed as to what options we have and the costs/​effects of each solution. Additionally, the team goes above and beyond when it comes to scheduling appointments and emergencies.
We have never had to wait long to see Dr. Waterhouse and when our time comes, it does not feel rushed. He spends adequate time examining our dogs and resolving any issues.
Lake Union Veterinary Clinic is, hands down, one of the best vets we have ever taken our dogs to. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Waterhouse and his team!!!

We’ve been taking our dog to Lake Union Vet since he was a puppy – almost three years. I feel like Dr. Carson always has our/​our dog’s best interests at heart. Her and the vet techs are very accommodating when it comes to his anxiety. The staff is also excellent. They are great in person and on the phone, always willing to help and fulfill requests. Excellent vet! Always very nice, the staff is super friendly and helpful. Dr. Waterhouse is probably one of the best vets we have ever met. He is helpful, friendly, and always goes the extra mile. Our dog absolutely loves going here. Tail wagging non stop.
They are a busy vet, so you may need to keep that in mind when making an appointment, but don’t get me wrong, busy does NOT mean crazy. Just LUV is one of the best, so they book up quick sometimes. We have never really had much problems getting an appointment when we need one though.
The office is clean too. I’ve been to some vets that just smell like DOG, but not here. Wonder if they can come clean for me. The office is open and well lit too. Very welcoming.

We moved here from Brooklyn, and 2 weeks after arriving, our adventurous little female cat took a tumble out our apartment window — a 3 story tumble! I was frantic and felt like the worst pet owner ever.
Lake Union Vet was amazing. I found them via Google, and was able to schedule a same day appointment. They keep me calm. The ladies in the front were gentle and understanding. The vet (Dr Waterhouse) did a thorough exam and explained everything to us. Furthermore, the price for all this was very reasonable
I am very grateful and plan to make Lake Union Vet my regular vet office.

My husband and I love this place! When our little Tula fell and broke her leg we looked for all the best places to take her and this one just stood out to us and ever since we have had nothing but great service. The staff is so friendly and Dr. Carson has been so helpful! Tula just loves going there and seeing them and they are so kind to her which was something extremely important to us. After many visits, Tula finally gets her cast off today, but this won’t be the last time they see us! They will continue to be our vet for years to come. Thank you LUVC for your love, care, and kindness towards our family!

We have been taking our dogs here for almost a year now and we couldn’t be happier with LUVC! They are always so accommodating and are very knowledgeable. We have had to call and make same day appointments quite a few times and they are always able to find time to see us. They even call to check up on the animals multiple times after you have been in! We usually request Dr. Carson, but we have had to see the other doctors as well and they are just as great! We would recommend them to anyone!

I’ve seen quite a few vets in Seattle and none compared to my awesome vet back in Houston (Dr. Oeben) until I came here.
My cat Clawdius had lost a lot of weight. I had been going to another vet and they wasted our time. I finally said that was enough and found LUVC. Immediately Dr. Carson found a mass in his abdomen. I chose them because they had more diagnostic equipment than my previous vet. He had an ultrasound and aspirate. It was Lymphoma. Everyone was very sympathetic to me. We did the chemo and all that but my beloved cat did not respond to it. I know finding it that much sooner probably wouldn’t have helped that much but I can’t help but think of how much time was wasted.
Then I noticed something else on my other cat and took him in. Again Dr. Carson immediately had her suspicions and confirmed he had mast cell tumors. I could tell she was very sympathetic knowing this was back to back. We scheduled surgery for him immediately. She did an excellent job! The incisions were clean and neatly stitched up.
I just got the news that pathology report came back as good news! I love Dr. Carson and will never go anywhere else as long as she stays in Seattle. She is very sharp. That’s what you want from a vet. Plus she is cordial and empathetic. They also always treat my cats gently.
As for some of these negative reviews, I’ve not experienced anything but amazing customer service. The front office is very kind, cheerful, and accommodating. I am always offered a coffee or something to drink. They greet me by name and are just overall friendly (and cute!)
The only negative thing I can say is, they’re a bit pricey. Maybe I am still used to Houston prices. I’m switching to Truepanion now because they do direct payment to them now.

My Yorkie had an intestinal disorder and and needed urgent care, Dr Jake Bridge attended her immediately, he was very careful and solicitous. All assistants and receptionists were very thoughtful! I certainly found the rightl place to care for the health of my little dog!

I’ve sat for hours trying to find a compliant or something to be bothered about and I’ve found nothing! What a great group of individuals who love and respect your animals. They seem to have amazing memories and always remember your animals name and greet with treats. The entire staff is extremely knowledgeable and help keep the owners at bay when you’re animal is not at 100%.
The doctor is easy to speak to and doesn’t try to push anything on you and as we’re new to the area he was very helpful with reviews of different training facilities and emergency 24 hour vets. Hats off to a classy place to bring your animal and feel like one of the neighbors!

Amazing people and service. My dog isn’t the nicest around new people, but they treated him with care and respect and he was the best behaved I’d ever seen him with strangers. They gave him two shots and he didn’t even notice them. Will absolutely be back.

On a desperate Saturday, I called around 7 – 8 vet clinics in the area to see if anyone could see us and LUVC was the only one who responded that we could come in 30 minutes before closing time and they would try to see us after the last appointment.
Not only that, but all of the staff was very friendly and responsive and made us feel very welcome. I greatly appreciated Dr. Waterhouse’s care for my dog and explaining every possible case. He also made a call to the Animal Eye Clinic and we were able to see the doctor there the very same day. (So glad I have Trupanion pet insurance to cover the vet bills!)
We were very pleased with this clinic’s care and professionalism and will definitely be coming back.
